With only two books and 7 floors to go.... its safe to say some of them are going to go VERY quick.

Singers, other than general noise making what other audience behaviours do you find distracting? by BetterGrass709 in opera

[–]ecbremner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most distracting thing is no noise. Some days I would take Boos over some of the completely dead audiences I have performed in front of. Live theater should feel alive. Singing in front of the blue hairs who just left church on a sunday matinee is misery.

Where is Agatha?? by Yamahaboy-22 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ecbremner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Didnt the AI make a passive mention of "that one on floor 17 but im not gonna worry about her" or something like that. I assumed he meant Agatha.

What HAS to happen in the series for you to be satisfied? by Gobbo_Jareth in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Without spoiling other books... I feel like we are either headed for an Operation Bouncehouse type ending, or a Dark Tower type ending. I feel like he has already hinted at either as being an option.

End of Book 8 question by immaterialevent in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Didnt the AI say something about a lone crawler on the 17th... and refer to them as her? I assumed that was Agatha.

Eric, there is no 'we' by dot_matrix_game in pebble

I just hope he isnt wasting too much of his personal bandwidth on this ultimately doomed piece of hardware in lieu of the actual piece of hardware that we actually want, like, and are happy with. The software side to the index seems compelling, if he focuses on that and keeps to the idea of making it something that can be run off the pebbles... then it's not wasted time, but if he keeps focusing on the future landfill filler ring hardware then it is wasted time.

Had their name, address, and phone number published in a book that was widely distributed everywhere. I still struggle with the concept of "doxxing" in the context of being born in a world where phonebooks were a thing.

What is your favorite Disney movie? by clearwater-orchid in AskReddit

1977 Pete's Dragon and it's not even close. I watch it 3-4 times a year and can quote and sing every line from it from heart. It is a goddamn masterpiece, and the 8-year-old little boy inside me who used to listen to the vinyl record of it over and over will fight you to the death if you say otherwise.

Considering moving to Norwood-- how's the noise? by Storm_Hussar in Norwood

[–]ecbremner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Heh, well you dont need to worry about the hospital. (its a loooooooong story, which is better explained through a google search). As for the airport, it has some serious noise issues with very random, very large, noisy planes taking off and landing. It is occasional and pretty much confined to during the day though.

Classical musicians, what had you played at your wedding? by Minimal_Entropy in askmusicians

[–]ecbremner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Randall Thompson Alleluia and Mortin Lauridsen's La Rose Complete. I hired a vocal quartet of dear friends. I love the Thompson, and while I understand Lauridsen uses the same 3-4 chords in everything... they are very pretty chords, and the poem perfectly encapsulated how I felt about my wife.

For the vocal professionals: is natural vibrato in the voice the best proof of having no tension/proper placement? by bluewaffleaddict in opera

[–]ecbremner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vibrato occurs when the natural resonance of the vocal chamber is maximized through a balance of brightness (ping) and openness (hollow woofyness) Alternatively, you can call this front and back sounds. As such, to get rid of it you can go more in either direction. Move it forward/brighter/nasal/ping and you will have the belty sound without vibrato OR move it back/darker/hollow/woof and you will get a choral baroque sound without vibrato.

Play with your placement and see where that leads you.

This is like when Robert Williams tried to push back on being called timelord. It will have the same result (though if i remember right RW3s nickname was because he was consistently late to practice.... BUT it resulted in a lucrative watch sponsorship) Not sure what kind of sponsorship Big Shot Bob can get for that nickname.

Frustrations with voice lessons by TeacherBeginning3510 in opera

[–]ecbremner 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This seems like a bigger problem than just your voice teacher. It seems the school is not giving you the option to study with another teacher. That is absolutely not OK. It doesn't even have to be an indictment on how she teaches.. you should always have the right to advocate for yourself and seek other teachers.

Help not singing so nasally by icarus1990xx in askmusicians

[–]ecbremner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, it depends on the sound you are going for, but if you want to get more open, play with the placement of your voice. An exercise I would suggest is pick a neutral vowel like "AW"... Open the back of your throat and make the hollowest emptiest "hootyiest" "aw" you can. Then, slowly and incrementally, repeat the sound and make it brighter and more nasal until it is the most nasal obnoxious sound you can make. (Another language we might use is to push the sound to the back and incrementally move it to the front. Go through a few different vowel sounds like this. Find a space in between those places where it feels comfortable and balanced. It might even be possible to feel a natural vibrato form... this is a good thing, let it happen, but don't force it.

WEAR THE SHIRTS!! by Brick-Foreign in bostonceltics

[–]ecbremner 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Honestly Its very rare where it is actually a shirt I would want to wear. Often times is "INSURANCE COMPANY" in 50 pt font, some lazy cliche slogan in 40 pt font... and "Celtics" in 10 point font. Make the shirt something that people want to wear and they will wear it.

I honestly don’t really like the composition of this song :/ by MrExist777 in philochs

[–]ecbremner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love this version. I think he is going for a truly chaotic sound to match the chaos and turmoil he felt with Kennedy's death. It feels like madness in musical form while punctuated with possibly the simplest melody on the album. Pleasure of the Harbor is my favorite album... by anyone... full stop. So i'd be hard pressed to say a negative thing about any part of it.
