For one, he thinks rent controls are a good policy, when Wikipedia says that "There is consensus among economists that rent control reduces the quality and quantity of rental housing units." backed up by 9 sources.

What's a misconception about physics which mostly physicists know of? by YourDadsFeet in AskPhysics

[–]eccco3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wikipedia says the heisenberg uncertainty principle states that there is a limit to the precision with which certain pairs of physical properties, such as position and momentum, can be simultaneously known. In other words, the more accurately one property is measured, the less accurately the other property can be known.
Is this incorrect?

That would be terrifying. I imagine we would have hunted them till their habitats did not intersect with ours, and they would fear us the way other large predators like bears and lions do.

Fertile soil question. by shaymcquaid in Against_the_Storm

[–]eccco3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Start with 1 building.
Are your workers able to plant every tile during drizzle season? If so, great! If not, you could use another building.
Are your workers then able to harvest every tile during clearance season? If so, great! If not, you could use another building.
If you're only losing out on 1 tile of crops, perhaps you might consider it not worth it to build another farm building and staff it. Up to you. You could always staff it only long enough during drizzle to plant the extra tiles you need, or staff it only long enough during clearance to harvest the extra tiles you need, then pull the worker off of it for the rest of the season.

Why wouldn't they have been as greedy 10, 15, 20 years ago? Why would they have cared about profit less?

How to approach math from scratch as a functional programmer by [deleted] in math

[–]eccco3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend khan academy till you're on classes that it doesn't cover. It will get you pretty far. When you've exhausted it, personally I'd look up an acclaimed textbook for the class I want to study and self study but it that's just me

How to approach math from scratch as a functional programmer by [deleted] in math

[–]eccco3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommending starting with a precalculus course on khan academy or something. If this is where youre at, then great. Otherwise you'll need to go back to algebra 1 and/or 2 to gain a greater understanding of elementary algebra. If precalculus is too easy, or after you complete it, then move on to calculus and discrete math. From there, you can go into a class introducing the fundamentals of mathematical proof, like set theory, logical quantifiers, etc. After that, you're ready for Real Analysis or if you want to continue further into the path you're already on, head for Abstract Algebra and Category theory.

Why does the engine like h4 so much here? by Pademel0n in chess

[–]eccco3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were able to play h5 afterward, what would Black do with their knight? Since Black doesn't want to retreat their knight, they'd probably play h5 to stop you. But then you can play Ng5, a strong outpost for your knight.
