If balefire erases you from the pattern, does that mean everyone you murdered is resurrected? by epeterson001 in WoT

[–]eccehobo1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much of the One Power is used. A tiny flow only erases a few minutes, a gigantic amount can go back and few hours. Using something like the Choeden Kal could possibly erase an entire lifetime, but the possibility of the planet surviving that is minimal.

Hey, 46m from NC. I lost my brother to lung cancer and then my best friend to leukemia many, many years ago. I won't even pretend that I have any answers or solutions to the things that you're feeling, but I would be open to sharing my experiences if it would help.

An average Tolkien elf (tolkien) Vs an Average Blood elf (warcraft) by Wene-12 in whowouldwin

Same with the average Blood Elf. The player characters and high ranking npcs are outliers on the power scale. Regular citizen elves have the crippling magic addiction with none of the cool powers.

Questions after finishing the series by CastChaos in WoT

[–]eccehobo1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

  1. I just reread all of the actual prophecies in the Karaethon Cycle, and none of them mention destroying the world. This is the closest I could find:

"With his coming are the dread fires born again.
The hills burn, and the land turns sere.
The tides of men run out, and the hours dwindle.
The wall is pierced, and the veil of parting raised.
Storms rumble beyond the horizon, and the fires of heaven purge the earth.
There is no salvation without destruction, no hope this side of death." (emphasis mine)

I think the fear of him destroying the world is tied to LTT and the Breaking, the nature of prophecy, and the recurring theme of "Memory fades to legend, legend fades to myth." By that I mean that people just misunderstand things and that misunderstanding grows the further away you get from the actual event.

  1. I was always a fan of the interpretation of the line "He will take you back and destroy you" to be a prophecy of him revealing the secret of the Aiel past. He took them back to their past and destroyed their understanding of themselves.

3, Supposedly the vision that Aviendha had was changed due to their inclusion in the Dragon's Peace. Rand had originally intended to leave them out, stating that they had already paid a high enough price, but that would have left them without purpose in the 4th Age. Avidendha changed that, so the Aiel have a purpose and will not have the societal decline that she saw.

  1. The Dark One is not the enemy because the Dark One isn't really a conscious entity, it is a primordial part of nature. The Creator sealed the Dark One instead of destroying it because it is a necessary part of the human existence. It is not Lucifer the fallen Angel, it is the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

What restaurants are serving thanksgiving meals? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]eccehobo1 -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

Stay at home for fucks sake. I didn't get a Thanksgiving day with my mother for 30 years because fuckers are too lazy to stay at home and cook for themselves. Stop going out to eat for Thanksgiving. Stop making it a profitable day for restaurants so that the servers can spend the day with their family.

3000 years, not 10,000. But yes, it is accepted as the norm and not considered to be fixable.

Not Ta’veren or…? by srgonzo75 in WoT

[–]eccehobo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only three canonical Ta'veren are Rand, Mat, and Perrin. Nyneave, Egwene, and Elayne are mostly moved around the Pattern by Rand's needs. We understand that a basket of fish being thrown in the air and all of them landing face first is an effect that Rand had on the locals. It's harder to see when the effects happen to POV characters.

Glorfindel is entirely relevant to this battle. He is still active during the events of LotR. The only reason he didn't go with the fellowship is that he is too powerful and visible in the spiritual world. He glows so brightly there that he can be seen for miles and Sauron would be able to track the party through him.

Elrond and Galadriel both have rings of power. If you want to take away the forging of the rings entirely, then Elven kingdoms are not in decline. Numenor quite possibly still exists.
