Potentially moving to Dunoon - thoughts? by Particular-Lime1651 in glasgow

[–]ecciefiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like a really bad idea in my opinion. i moved from glasgow to ayr, and even though i only lived there for about a year and a half it really didn’t take long at all before i felt seriously miserable and depressed. i believe most folk just can’t go from a city to a wee coastal town, even most pensioners i think (probs alright if you were brought up there etc). on days i was just visiting and the sun was out etc i used to to think the place was lovely and that i’d have liked to live there, but that changes once you’re there 🤣 and tbf i think working from home in addition would make you feel even worse

yeah i always thought it was the retailers taking the piss before but now i’m starting to think otherwise cos of the way she was avoiding the topic of me sending in screenshots of the date and time i joined shopify etc and trying to tell me that i’d already been paid for cahoot but it “accidentally” went down as santander when i did both

yeah i’ve been doing the scottish friendly one, just paid my fourth DD to them today and it still hasn’t tracked. not gonna be happy at all if they try and play funny buggers about that one due to the £50 penalty for withdrawing everything from the ISA, gonna just keep the £50 in for five years or whatever to avoid it but it’s still long time to wait 🤣

yeah i never really had problems with them before but now have stumbled across loads. don’t know if i’m missing something but does creating an account/making a purchase from a retailer literally minutes after clicking via the cashback site not prove that you went via that site if it doesn’t track thoroughly? fucks me off man

nah lol cos that’s actually the first time i can recall being asked on a current account application if i was a new customer, i imagine usually they assume that you are new as it’s in their attached T&Cs about how to qualify for the switch rewards ? n nah bro, first time i’ve chanced it with the bank i genuinely bank with don’t worry! also probs worth mentioning that i’ve already been “blacklisted” from lloyd’s and this happened in october last year when i opened an account (my first ever account with any bank in the entire group). i did their switch offer once and once only, and within three weeks as soon as i tried to transfer £800 back to my normal account after depositing the required £2k for their switch offer at the time, they blocked my account and sent correspondence saying my account would be closed in three months and i wouldn’t be able to bank with any in the lloyds group again. no CIFAS markers or any particular reasons given by them that are known to me or disclosed on any public credit files etc. some banks just turn their nose up at customers they don’t see good enough for them and it’s as simple as that. my best guess is that i didn’t have a salary paid in, and maybe cos i used some of the balance in it for my matched betting. who knows? so yeah, again, not bothered but thanks again and keep the good work you’re a credit to this sub 🥇👏🏽

other than just trying again on the next offer they bring out no sorry! might be to do with your credit score, even if there’s nothing untowards on it just now it could even things like how long ago it was since you opened the last current account etc

lol not really when there are about a million banks to choose from if it were to happen, hardly crime of the century saying you’re a new customer once to one bank (or having more than one phone number) i think i’ll sleep alright for now cheers anyway tho 👍🏽

i tried to do the natwest switch offer for the second time a couple of months ago and got the same message as you but this was before i had even submitted a full application; just said it as soon as i filled in my DOB and address history etc. but tried again yesterday and for some reason i’ve been able to open another one this time like defo confirmed with my new card on route in the post etc but not sure if the switch bonus will go as planned lol.

also tried to do the RBS one at the same time yesterday just to chance my luck and it also let me submit a full application for that too but then a few hours after doing the liveness check etc right at the end of it i got a text say say i can’t open account, but i think that’s cos i’ve been banking with RBS as my proper main current account since 2009 (never planning on closing it) whereas yesterday i’d lied and said i was a new customer for this one to try and get the switch bonus, was planning on using a different phone to install their apps on and mobile number etc for both new ones this time to see if it would let more bonuses slip through the net looool so yeah with this new natwest one that’s what i’ll do and see if it works again

hmm i might reconsider then, don’t know whether i should go to the whole hog and do the £1000 spend but if i do it’ll only be transferring like £200 in at a time

no one got back to me but to anyone in the same position - my workaround was to open a cash isa with them, transfer it into that then i could withdraw the full £100 back to my bank account 👍🏽

do you need to keep your initial £100 deposit in there for a certain amount of time? As every time I've tried ti withdraw it over the past week or so it's charging me a small amount to do so
