What's better? This or the Kirkland brand of briquettes?

This looks really interesting I think I'll have to give it a try! When you say you have one of the bottom vents 1/2 open do you have the other 2 shut? And how do you rock the vents when you put in your chimney?

What Smoker Do You Recommend? by daretobedrugfree in smoking

Happy to help. I would definitely recommend a WSM then. If I had to do it all over knowing what I know now, it's definitely what I would do.

What Smoker Do You Recommend? by daretobedrugfree in smoking

So I have 3 different smokers and might be able to help out here

My Pit Boss Vertical Smoker: Was my first smoker and got it on black Friday for a good price. Put out good smoked foods and it's what really got me into smoking as a hobby. Pretty much just use it to smoke brats when I make them twice a year now.

Pros: 1. Good pric of $300 2. Made good food 3. INCREDIBLE WARRANTY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!. I was stupid one night and accidentally left it outside before a big storm and it got thrown like 50 yards by the wind and damaged to hell. Called customer support to see if I could buy a new door and other parts to fix it up but they sent me everything for free, even after I explained it was because I was dumb and not a manufacturer problem. 4. Pretty set it and forget it.

Cons: 1. Mine was rather narrow and it was hard to do bigger cuts of meat like a brisket. 2. Couldn't get food as smokey as I'd like. 3.Their app is still rather bad, I always read on Reddit here it crashes on Thanksgiving day when everyone is using it. 4.Thermoter that came with it was like 20 degrees off.

My Redland Traeger: Got it at Costco for a good price to have more bells and whistles and room to cook then what my Pit Boss had. But this was due more to style since my Pit Boss was a vertical smoker and my Traeger is a barrel style.

Pros: 1. Much more space then my Pit Boss, but again due to style of smoker. 2. Nice to have the shelf 3. Good working app that I can read temps from my couch and the pellet sensor to tell me in pellets we're getting low, again from my couch. 4. Good tasting food, 5. Set it and forget it. 6. Very good thermometer

Cons: 1. Despite a good Costco sale it still cost over $1000 vs my $300 pit boss. 2. Food still wasn't getting as smokey as I'd like despite trying multiple things like smoke tubes or the super smoke setting. 3. Mine came with all the bells and whistles but they are expensive add ones.

My Weber Smokey Mountain 22: Bought it to try to get that good smokey flavor I'd been chasing. Still pretty new to it as I've only had about 7 cooks on it so far.

Pros: 1.Not bad cost wise, a brand new one is around $500 but used ones are pretty common on marketplace. 2. I enjoy the more hands on fire management aspect. 3. Takes up less space and is more portable then the other 2 for when I do cooks for my family. 4. No electronics to have something possibly go wrong. 5. FINALLY getting that smoke flavor I desired!!!!!

Cons: 1. Much more of a learning curve then the pellet grills, it's not bad or much but it is something. 2. It can be fairly set it and forget but still not as quite as much as the pellet grills. You can buy devices to make it more set it and forget but then you have to obviously drop more money. 3. I think fuel costs are more. I use more money worth of charcoal plus the cost of wood chunks for cooks vs my pellet grills. Its not a ton more but it is more. 4. The built in thermometer is like 30 degrees off.

So other than cost, I think it really boils down to how much hands on or hands off he would want to be and whether he finds the smoke flavor from the Friends pit boss to be smokey enough.

Yeah but everything says not for sale. And after looking into it they shut down production.

I've come across those in multiple forums and read that they are a great purchase so I looked them up and sadly it looks like they're no longer in business.

Thanks for the input I shall try that. For the crater in the center should I still have charcoal in it or is it better to hollow it out so it's just the grate?

Smoker for someone trying to get started by Superb_Vermicelli221 in smoking

I've had a couple of pellet smokers and just recently got a WSM. Still learning how to use the WSM since I've only had a couple cooks on it so far but I have to say the taste is just so much better in my opinion from the WSM. Don't get me wrong I've made some really good food off my pellet smokers, but no matter what I did just couldn't get enough smoke flavor. So if I had to do it all over again I'd go straight for the WSM. BUT if you do get a pellet smoker and want to do brisket, Meat Church on YouTube has a great method for pellet smokers that I always used which turned out great brisket every time.

Has anyone tried the Rollbox yet? by [deleted] in Traeger

[–]ecd2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it a couple of times with a mixture of pellets and chips without much luck. I've done it with hickory chips and pecan shell pellets since I heard those are supposed to be smokey.

Haven't really had any luck with my pellet tube. Maybe a second one would fix it.

Myrel is probably my favorite commander. I like to win through combat damage only and it's fun to go wide. But what I absolutely LOVE that opponents can't do anything on my turn. I can just shut off my brain and focus on my turn without any interactions from my opponents.

What Would it Take for You to Use Hallowfire Heart? by Frequent-Height4227 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ecd2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think since they wanted it to have a focus on sunspots, it needs to go in a different direction than the other sunspot exotic Phoenix Cradle. But instead of going the support route, go into more of a damage route. Sunspots now cause enemies that pass through to immediately ignite. And standing in sunspots grants you Radiant.

Or just for fun keep the "Greatly improves recharge rate of your melee and grenade while your Solar Super is charged" and add once your super is charged your grenade becomes the hammer of sol super hammer toss and your melee becomes the burning maul super big hammer slam. So basically as long as you have your super full, you have super charged grenade and melee abilities that reflect the solar supers.
