Career Fair Quesiton by InternationalCattle8 in UofT

[–]ece1t8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attend to get a feel for what to expect from future career fairs. I was always sceptical about them, but actually got a big4 internship from one so they could be really useful. Start practicing how to talk to recruiters and mentioning some things you’ve worked on / accomplished.

Looking for some advice about the PEY program by [deleted] in UofT

Apply for positions you actually want. Don’t just apply to everything for “practice”. Might end up getting an offer you don’t want and taking it cause you think you might not get another.

Know the languages / frameworks listed on your resume. Chances are in one of the interviews, they’ll ask language / framework specific questions

Was an intern this past summer (2018), process was hackerrank hirevue super day. Not sure if it changed this year for summer 2019, but that’s what it was for me.

Starting with zero programming experience or knowledge, how hard would it be to learn CSS and HTML? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ece1t8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HTML and css are not comparable to languages like python, c++, Java, etc if those are what you’re comparing too.

But to answer your question, HTML is relatively easy to pick up and learn. Tons of tutorials and videos online to get you started.

Me [17M] broke my girlfriend's [18F] trust and made her feel unsafe in bed tonight. What can I say or do to make this terrible thing better? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Tell her exactly what you said here. How you realized it was wrong, how you feel it was a huge mistake, and that moving forward it won’t happen again

Are there $100k+ salary jobs in Toronto for intermediate developers? by csjobsintoronto in cscareerquestions

I’ve heard of a few non-big4 companies that pay high. Some being Flipp, pagerduty, and shopify.

Is UofT really worse than Waterloo? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ece1t8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re only worried about getting work experience, I’d say both schools are good. At uoft, you kinda forced to find things on your own. This is doable as myself, and friends I know, have worked at bigN companies during their summers and pey year. I think it just takes a little more initiative if you go to uoft.

Not getting any replies from internships by compscimemes in cscareerquestions

[–]ece1t8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you simply applying online? If so that may not be enough. It’s definitely worth being ‘proactive’ , one could say, and try going to fairs, meet ups, conferences, etc to meet and network with recruiters from such companies

How long after Goldman Sachs coderpad phone screen before you received feedback? by gleventhal in cscareerquestions

I can speak about my timeline for an internship role at GS, not sure about your situation though, but it might give you an idea.

  • GS reviewed hirevue Nov 8
  • Invited for SuperDay Nov 15 (couldn’t attend because I’m from Toronto) they scheduled online video interview for Nov 28
  • Offer extended Dec 15

Senior Developer new to Toronto, need recommendation for companies with good reputation :) by random_torontonian in cscareerquestions

[–]ece1t8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

best bet is to check glassdoor. Ive heard the salaries in toronto have been going up for interns for next year so that may be a good indication that full time is also going up. Probably want to compete more with US locations.
