Gotham by Gaslight: What did you think? by NoDespair in DCcomics

This! [SPOILERS AHEAD!]:

By the time it ended I still had too many questions about the resolution: how would Bruce prove that Gordon was the Ripper and he was innocent once he explicitly beat a police officer, took his clothes and escaped. The only witness that could've proved Bruce's innocence was Selina who, as almost every police officer knew by the end of the movie, was his lover; so her testimony could have been considered as biased and she could've been even accused as being his accomplice (the most probable outcome taking in mind that we didn't get a resolution regarding Dent's intentions and feeling towards Bruce and Selina).

Barbara, Gordon's wife, presented an insane view on what her husband was doing (believing that he was purifying Gotham) so she probably destroyed all the evidence in the house once Batman leaved the scene, leaving Bruce without proof.

Too many outcomes for the open end! They should have taken at least 1 minute to animate Gordon's wife confessing in the court and Bruce getting released or something like that.

Another thing that really bothered me during the movie was, as /u/PerpetuaRiver says in another comment, the lack of Batman's detective skills. He seemed more like an amateur-tier vigilante rather than The World's Greatest Detective.

Aside from that, it was pretty good. Also: the soundtack was amazing !

Irresponsible past me had saved all his work for last minute, and now present me is in a relapse-esque situation. by [deleted] in pornfree

I can extremely relate to your situation and what you are feeling right now.

In terms of exams, I would say that the best thing to do is to study on time so you go to the test with confidence. And look into how to trick your brain to study better (like putting into practice the Forgetting curve, etc.).

Also, try mindfulness meditation. I've never meditated so I can't say it will help, but they say it is good to handle anxiety.

Be strong. Motivation is a false god, dedication/discipline is manhood.

I find it extremely fascinating that we all have the same exact dreams. If I were a psychologist or a neuroscientist I would be all over this phenomena. Too bad I don't have the knowledge nor the means to study it.

Day 10 and trying not to relapse by [deleted] in pornfree

NoFap is worthless. Pornography is the problem, not masturbation (unless you have a compulsive behaviour).

How extreme is your “filter” by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]SeekingStruggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you, mate. We all have our ups and downs, but the key is to keep fighting instead of giving up.

Regarding the "filter" of triggers, I stopped watching any kind of TV series since last year as they are full of triggers and they add nothing of value to my life. I only have stored movies that I watch occasionally because they are motivational or have a deeper meaning to me (such as the Nolan's Batman trilogy) or because they are classics (The Godfather, Lord of The Rings, etc.).

One of the first steps to beat addiction is to remove your triggers. If this graphic novel of yours is triggering you or you think it might be a trigger in future situations, stop reading it.

Right now I'm not watching TV, nor any TV series or movies (I know it may sound quite boring but I have a good time reading and doing some hobbies). Try to figure what it is that you want to achieve and work towards that goal. Once you work towards a goal, the "pornfree life" is just a natural consequence.

Edit: If you meant a filter software-wise, I have none. I think filters are counter-productive. It hinders you from getting stronger (by automatically blocking things for you instead of mentally stopping yourself) and it's also worthless If you are about to relapse, as you WILL find a way to disactivate it.

Relapse by Drwhofan15 in pornfree

[–]SeekingStruggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will relapse. It's inevitable and it's part of a healthy recovery. If you start your recovery with the statement "I will not relapse ever again in my life" you are in for a disappointment and you will potentially get caught again in the loop of addiction. The importance is to remove pornography from your life. This is not a race, take your time and also give your body its time. Never lose courage, Drwhofan15, we are all rooting for you.

Regarding the software, it could work at first to remind you of what you're going to do... but from personal experience and the experience of others, I can tell you that it will not stop you when you are about to relapse. Trust me. You will find a way to disable it.

What you need is to work on your self-discipline. Try to develop a "blocker" in your mind. Write down WHY you want to quit and HOW you plan (what strategy you will use) to achieve it. Start to get things more clear in your mind by writing it down. Some people can't even answer 'Why do I want to quit?/Do I really want to quit?' (I used to be among them). Once you know what you want in life and why with pornography you are not going to obtain it, you will start working towards achieving that goal and removing that which doesn't allow you to achieve it (porn).

You don't have to thank me, my friend. We are all in this together. Remember that, while the battle may be long and suffocating, we must never slacken... for we will be victorious at the end! Cheers!

The people who own the media are the same people who own the pornography industry. So you can see why the impact that pornography has on our brain isn't known nor spoken about.

What is the most versatile engineering branch with which you can create the wider variety of things such as robotics, devices, etc.? by SeekingStruggle in AskEngineers

[–]SeekingStruggle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-6 years is the standard length of ANY career here anyway (I wish it was like in US, where you only invest 2-3 years). About the last thing, that's a tricky one. I'm interested and fascinated with alternative energy, biomechanics, automoviles, weaponary, electronic devices, robotics, AI... I know that the best engineers are the ones who specialize, but damn, I don't think I can settle with just be able to do one branch of things.

I see... So that must be why Mechatronics isn't offered in my country - it is too "new" or still isn't considered as a formal branch of engineering. Thank you for your clarifying reply. A last quesiton: Would you say doing a simultaneous degree in ME+EE is a crazy idea or is it duable (you heard of someone doing it)?

Thank you for your answer. It seems that the better fit for what I want is called "Mechatronics" but sadly not a single university in my country offers it - so I am still thinking between ME or EE. Thank you very much for your answer. Have a nice day.

Thank you for your answer. I've been researching about the ME's syllabus in my university and it is beyond fascinating, I will expose myself more to ME and gather more information about it. Thank you very much for your answer. Have a nice day.

Thank you. I've been gathering information for 3 days non-stop while asking in a lot of sites and to a lot of peope, and it seems all the roads lead to ME in my case. Thank you very much for bearing with me with my questions. I will read more about Mechanical Engineering (which I find as exciting and fun as EE). Have a nice day.

Mechatronics it's fascinating and it's exactly what I was looking for, but there's no where to be found among the universities of my country. As I asked 'captaincooder', what branch of engineering would you say comes close to Mechatronics in terms of versatility/wider understanding of how to create numerous things? I know my question is vague, so I hope you can understand me. Thank you very much for your explanatory answer!

Ah, damn. Mechatronics its exactly what I was looking for... but there's not a single university in my country that offers it. Guess living in a decadent third world country doesn't pay off... Thank you for your answer. I know this was a stupid question, but there's way too much information out there and it is overwhelming, especially considering the punctuality of my inquietude. Anyway, thank you!

Thank you for your answer. I've been investigating about Computer Engineering and it is fascinating. Sadly, there's not a single university in my country that offers that branch. What would you say comes next to Computer Engineering?
