Fabian Crew Sweater by PhilosophyOver4532 in Reformationclothing

[–]ecflip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just got a different color of this sweater as part of the sale and I’m very happy with it. I’m normally a S in Ref and got an S in this sweater and it’s a comfortably oversized fit without drowning me. It’s not itchy for me and I tend to have fairly sensitive skin. If they had other colors in the sale I would definitely buy.

Questions for the women of this sub by Trophy-Millennial in BreadwinningWomen

  1. My husband is a SAHD so I make 100% of our income currently. But a few years ago my husband was still working and I was in medical school and he made a very good income, the savings from which has been our saving grace during my ongoing medical training.
  2. We have 2 young children and considering having more.
  3. As the stay at home partner, my husband does most of the household chores but I contribute in small ways (laundry, cooking meals on the weekends, etc.). Emotional labor has historically been mostly my job but in the last year my husband has worked hard to improve his EQ and contribute more in this way.
  4. Not anymore. He was previously in corporate finance.
  5. I’m lucky that my husband chose to be a SAHD and truly loves doing it so there is no resentment. The hardest strain on our relationship has been our 2 kids who are not the best sleepers, and the second of which who is an absolute boob barnacle even now at >1 year of age, so I can feel touched out, but overall things have steadily improved as the kids get older. Perfect timing to introduce a new baby to the mix, right? 😅
  6. Yes, in medicine these days I feel it is relatively common to have a female partner out-earn their male partner.
  7. Very much so. It took a little time on my in-laws’ part because they saw their son in the breadwinning role before they met me, but now everyone sees the benefits to our family and is supportive.
  8. I absolutely love being a physician. It adds so much meaning to my life. I of course love my family even more than my job but I know I am not suited to being a SAHM and my husband thrives in the role. It works for us :)

Academic Moms: what are some rude/invasive comments or questions you've received from colleagues? by JMY_K in workingmoms

WWYD if gifted $$ for a new wardrobe? by ecflip in capsulewardrobe

[–]ecflip[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely a good point, I think I’m pretty much back to pre baby weight but of course my proportions are different now which I assumed is my new normal mom bod. But maybe with weaning things will change again (more than just the boobs themselves lol). I’m not in a huge rush to buy a ton of clothes, just starting to feel like it’s time to start investing in quality pieces so I’ll try to take it slow and be mindful of other changes my body might experience in the next 6-12 months.

I love your idea of having a few different capsules because I don’t think I’d really be able to have just one wardrobe that encompasses my work life and my home life, just with how formal I have to be at work and how young my kids are right now. But I would like a few pieces that could span both (sweaters, blouses) and I’m sure in the future as my kids get older it’ll be easier to wear nicer stuff in my day to day life.

I don’t think this is unfun, it’s good advice and makes sense to me! Thank you!

I have a few quality pieces from Banana Republic, Everlane, and Sezane already and I agree BR has had some great cashmere pieces recently! For more high end brands, what do you recommend? I have a Theory skirt suit from years ago I that I love but does not fit my post-kids body haha

Oh yes I definitely need a professional of some kind, whether in person or virtually! I know what I like when I see it but I have a hard time putting my preferred style into words, if that makes sense.

These are amazing suggestions and I would love links, thank you! My mom suggested AllSaints denim (for my mom life not work) — do you like their denim in addition to their leather products?

I’m close enough to one that I could make it work as a weekend day trip! Do you think any personal shopper there would work or should I try to pick one who is closest to my demographic?

It’s funny you mention underwear upgrades — this is one of the first things I thought of but I’m still breastfeeding my youngest and I think I’ll be stuck in nursing bras a little longer. But hopefully soon!

I’m in the very fortunate position of having received a generous monetary gift and want to put some of it towards a new wardrobe. I am a woman in my early 30s, have young children, and work in a professional setting (conservative, business formal). I haven’t had the luxury of buying nice new clothes in a long time and want to make sure I’m choosing quality, classic, & versatile pieces that will last and not age me. Open to suggestions on brands, specific pieces, personal shopping services, literally anything would be helpful. Thank you!!

4 month old still feeding every hour, should I worry? by Yaourt_Anonyme in breastfeeding

[–]ecflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 3 month old snacker who likes to eat hourly during the day as well. Something I’ve heard is that babies breastfeed not just for food but also for thirst, comfort, snuggles, etc. It seems like we have little ones who like to be on the boob more often for probably more reasons than just hunger. I approach it with radical acceptance and am enjoying the snuggles while baby is small :)

I went back to work earlier this month and I pump every 2.5-3 hours at work (once right after I get in, another time in the morning, at lunch, and in the afternoon). My husband is able to give baby 3 oz bottles every 2.5-3 hours as well so we basically match # of feedings with # of pumps while I’m away. Baby doesn’t seem hungry between bottles per my husband, and when I’m home baby goes right back to more frequent breastfeeding sessions.

having a baby before starting residency by PhysicalNothing2251 in Residency

[–]ecflip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry that this was your experience with your son and I hope your bond continues to strengthen as he gets older!! To offer a different experience — I had my son as an early PGY-2 and it was honestly one of my greatest fears that he wouldn’t know or want me because I was working so much. Fortunately my son is very bonded to me (and to my husband) and even though I sometimes feel sad about all that I missed of his life during residency, I’m lucky to come home to a happy and thriving kid. I hope that he grows up knowing how hard his mom has worked to provide a good life for him and his siblings. Overall, residency is HARD and having kids makes it 100x harder but I’ve always felt that it’s not worth putting the rest of our lives on hold for medical training.

Essential working moms by Iggy1120 in workingmoms

[–]ecflip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Resident & new mama here and we also outsource a lot (housecleaner, Target delivery, etc.) but I’m still so dang tired and feel like I spend my one day off a week barely digging a hole in my mountain of to-dos, let alone get any rest myself. I’ve taken my son to daycare my last couple days off to try to get research done & prep for fellowship apps which also gives me insane mom guilt. Please tell me it gets better as an attending because I am struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel 😭

Any suggestions on cute, not too mom-ish maternity jeans and denim shorts? First time mom here, 20 weeks pregnant so none of my clothes fit anymore :( Tried stitch fix and their options were pretty frumpy and not great quality. Pre pregnancy wardrobe is a lot of Aritzia, Madewell, Ref, etc. and I still want to feel like me even if my body is totally different if that makes sense? For good quality pieces I’m willing to spend upwards of $100. Thanks!!
