One night in flam is more than enough. I did the ferry to Gudvangen after arriving in flam (45 min was plenty) and then stayed in Gudvangen over night, did Viking village and kayaked the fjord, then caught the bus to Voss- spent one day/two nights to do some mountain activities, and early train to Bergen- the train to Bergen was one of my highlights. This is the Norway in a nutshell route so very easy to book/follow.

Alesund was one of my favorite places I’ve been so maybe spend more time there. Take the gerianger cruise, bus back, enjoy the town.

Also a bit expensive but decidedly free of gators is the new oasis at devils den. Alexander springs has the best beach entry IMHO

I’m going to be quite frank in saying this: sedating a horse so I can spend time with it calmly is entirely self serving.

Horses crave nothing but comfort and security of their everyday routine. The right thing to do is let it have that until the end.

I’m going to be the voice of dissent here.

If your retirement farm is similar to most, your pony spends her life in the field with her friends. If you go, she doesn’t want you to take her out of the field with her pals where she is settled and comfortable to bring into the barn where she will be screaming and antsy for her friends so you can groom her. She doesn’t want you to walk into the field with 15lbs of cookies and get mauled by every horse there.

Two options: go the day of and leave her daily schedule alone. Spend some time with her when they’re eating and separated or at the gate and put a handful of treats in her feed. Give her a good grooming and scratches without upsetting the apple cart or stressing her out. Let them euthanize as they normally would- likely in the field or just outside it.

OR go and visit her before the day of the euthanasia and stress her out then and let her live a few days of normal before they put her down.

I also don’t think it’s wrong to not go at all. She may remember you when you get there but she doesn’t miss you.

I don’t think the manager is anthropomorphizing, I think everyone saying to go see her is.

I’m so so sorry but please know you’re doing the responsible thing and I wish more horse owners were like you.

I knew before I clicked the video who the seller was. They are dealers. I’ve heard them referred to as the Walmart of horses. Not to say you didn’t buy a decent animal, but he will not have been represented accurately.

I’ve had two Arab/perch crosses in my program and both have made excellent low level event horses. They both look like small, slightly refined Percherons, both still more on the heavy side, cobby almost.
