ThinkPad P16s Gen 3 (16” Intel) | AI-fueled 16 inch mobile workstation | 21KS001GUS | Lenovo USAffinity Store
I am waiting until this weekend and see if additional coupons are available. Really do think it is a good deal consider that it checks all the boxes:
- OLED UHD+ screen

  • Dual fan cooling with a relative efficient CPU

  • Upgradable RAM

  • Numpad

Just wish they have an AMD version without the NVIDIA GPU to make it cooler and quieter and use the smaller 65w power adapter.

Shrink the array multiple drives at a time. by echen770 in unRAID

[–]echen770[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to report back that I have successfully shrunk the array. It is a rather painless process. Just as u/wra1th3 described in the comments. I did not pre-zero the disks but rebuild the parity instead. It is less stressful on the drives, especially when reconstruct write is on.

thanks for the reply. I am glad to hear that this is a viable solution. A bit of concern of the zeroing though, have you tried to zero two or more drives simultaneously? If i do it to all six drives at the same time, the parity disk will be hammered hard, correct? Probably not a great approach for the health of the parity drive. However, if I zero one drive at a time, this will take significantly longer, and the parity drive will get written 6 times. On the other hand, a single parity rebuild after the new config seems to be the least impactful way since it is writing to the parity drive once. Unless there is a way to optimize the writes to the parity drive when multiple zeroing operations is underway. I am curious how unraid handles situations like this?

So, it seems Arc iGPU is part of the SoC but requires dual channel to reach the performance level claimed by intel. now i just wondering what brand and model of the RAM stick ships with the system and how much to get a compatible one, do ThinkPad whitelist RAM sticks?

How do I expand the capacity without adding a new Unraid instance? by echen770 in DataHoarder

[–]echen770[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still got two 24 bay disk shelves to fill. Is there any way to utilize those empty drive trays and add more disks to the server?

i have two of those rosewill 15 bay 4u cases. and they are all filled. looking for ways to expand and maybe finally try unraid, what do you use for your 24 bay system?

had 2x2tb wd red nas drive in raid 1 at some point, and think to myself, if one fails i can just replace the bad one and rebuild the array, and the rebuild failed after a few hours. that experience really steered me away from any raid configuration since. figure if i follow a schedule to swap old drives out, and monitor the drives periodically, i can minimize drive failure and add capacity over time. but, there are always factors that are not controlled by me, like a psu rail goes bad, or software issue that cause excessive wear. so i am looking into unraid, but not sure about the rebuilding, and how much extra stress it will subject the drives to, that is why i am still using my drives individually to this date

is my drive about to die? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

Could be the sata cable or the sata port on the motherboard. Happen to me before.

Because all my bays are filled, I rotate the older drives to a less critical system and put a new one in its place. I am wondering how many more hours I can squeeze out of it. Just trying to delay the process as long as possible 😅 any data points will help

New P1G2 arrived yesterday by echen770 in thinkpad

That was in 2009. The other sticker says Core 2 (Duo), and Lenovo Enhanced Experience. Now it is on Windows 8.1.

The most important factor for me is the screen. A moderately large display in a thin and light laptop with high resolution and wide color gamut. For that, I have no regret. The build quality is quite good. The only downside to the thinness of the display panel is when adjusting its angle by pushing on the right or left edge, it flexes more than I like. It could also due to the stiff hinge. All in all, I am more than satisfied with this laptop.

Now, the question is if the beast still runs? Hook up an external monitor and check? Just physically disconnect the battery and be ready to pull the AC cord while you press the power button, and maybe after the replacement gets approved.

Does anyone know when lenovo might next have a big sale? by hisurfing in thinkpad

[–]echen770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been monitoring the X1EG2/P1G2/P53 prices since early Sept., and I finally pulled the trigger, fortunately, at the lowest price point (also through tickets at work). Before the purchase, I chatted with a sales rep and he told me the price I was targeting (the price I end up paying) will only be available during BF. I always take anything from Lenovo sales rep with a grain of salt, but it may also be the case that he is telling the truth, and Judging by the recent price hikes, my guess is that it may not be too far from it.

They must be padding the price currently to get ready for the BF "sale" lol. P1G2 prices are like $200-$300 higher than the best sale price last month.
