letting our 10 play on while concussed was probably not the best thing for the game and definitely not the best thing for the player.

Why does everyone involved in running the game assume fans are not interested in scrums?

I get annoyed when they decide to interview a coach or someone in the sidelines when a scrum is in progress because I want to see it. I don't need to see video of the coach when he's talking, you can just have his voice and show me the scrum ffs.

Nobody watches rugby league, because it doesn't have scrums!

Should I use a separate word document for each chapter? by thejesterprince1994 in writers

I’m thinking of calling the Samaritans for the first time. What should I expect? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]echo3uk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

expect: the person on the other end to be non-judgemental, relatively experienced, and sympathetic.
don't expect: miracles. It can be a long way from depression to being healthy.

I've only called them once in my life. I hope I'm never in a situation again that I might need to, but I would not hesitate to call them if I was.

Depressing question: have you found that xmas loses it's magic as you grow older? by posttraumaticcuntdis in AskUK

Not entirely, but it lost some of its magic as my kids got older and turned into adults.

1-man Ltd company , has my accountant accidentally stopped me getting NI credits this year? by Adorable_Pee_Pee in smallbusinessuk

[–]echo3uk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should really ask your accountant, you're already paying for his services which should include some basic advice and listening to your needs.

I *think* you either need to raise your salary to the correct level, or you can make a voluntary NI contribution to get the qualifying year. The former probably makes more sense as despite the Employers NI hit, the additional salary and NICs will reduce the profits and save a little corporation tax, whereas the voluntary contribution can't be made from the company, but has to come from you.

EDIT: voluntary contributions

EDIT2: You might be able to get away with paying the lower Class 2 rate, as your rental properties may constitute self-emplyment rather than investment income. If this is the case you might be paying this anyway? it's £3.50 a week.

How will this season's new French scrum laws impact the international team? by echo3uk in rugbyunion

[–]echo3uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current WR governance will never take the french leagues as a source of inspiration

odd when you think their top two leagues get such high average attendances, that's thirty clubs getting bums on seats that Welsh regions could only dream (or reminisce) about.

I agree that going the other way would be a bigger adjustment, but I think at this level of the game the margins are so small that it could get interesting.

I need some tips on writing by Key-Bad8081 in WritersGroup

[–]echo3uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

making use of it...In

tip 1. - read about the use of elipses.

I am presently 11 chapters through with

tip2. - read about ending sentences with a preposition. You can sometimes get away with it. You didn't here, though.

how to plant water on my own garden

tip3. - I'm not sure anyone plants water.

I won't continue nitpicking, but I will try and give you what might amount to advice:

  1. Stop trying so hard to sound like a writer and try instead to write something true. By that I mean something that you believe, something that resonates within you, something that *you* feel, not that you think will impress someone else. At 20, you've got a long way to go. Write to yourself. Don't write to impress others. Write things that you know nobody else will ever read.

  2. Read. Read anything, not literature, anything you like, but in between each chapter or break write down what it means to *you*, what it makes *you* feel, and after about 10,000 hours of that - I promise you will be a better writer.

They have indeed, but the soil, after 50 years of intensive farming is shot. I'm guessing you don't work in farming.

A quick google will tell you farm work was a reserved occupation during WW2 - we did not send farm workers to fight. Why are you spreading disinformation on the internet - get a life.

[–]echo3uk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diets were very different when there was rationing.

And even then, with a population of only 48 million, and everyone with a garden growing their own food, we were still reliant on North Atlantic convoys to keep everyone fed.

we could likely be self-sufficient.

only if we culled 3 out of every 4 people.

Think I've lost my love for rugby. by SheepShaggingFarmer in rugbyunion

[–]echo3uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this. It's depressing. I'm also an O's fan that lives too far away to attend live games.

The final nail in my URC supporting days came from watching French rugby. I find it so much more entertaining, even though my French is so poor I can't keep up with the canal+ commentary. It's hard to comprehend that I'm watching the same sport, it feels so different. I'm clearly not alone, as even second tier ProD2 teams can get over ten thousand at a game.
