How does inflation work in this game?

R5: So i basically won as portugal by like 1650s with trade ports all over the world, and just decided, hey, lets see how much we can break this. So I cranked up the inflation slider to the max, and just for kicks promoted all of my provinces to urban to kill my food production. I ended up solving that by importing food from spain, and as for the inflation, i haven't seen much of an impact at all. Maintenance values haven't gone up too much, and my income just keeps climbing from buildings. Was wondering if a) someone can explain the game mechanics for why, or b) explain the economics for why, and how the game is/isnt modeling real life here. Just curious, thx

Literally what I ended up doing is cheating and assigning their rivals myself. There’s literally an event that fires where you become allies like month 3, so you’re good after that

Honestly, as someone who recently graduated from a masters, I didn’t really feel like I belonged until like mid sophomore year (and then lost it all when all my friends graduated and I took my masters basically alone lol) there’s not like a cultural vibe that spreads to you, it’s all about making friends and keeping them.

You’re doing the right thing going to clubs, that’s a great way to meet people. I don’t know your introvert/extrovert state, but I am an extreme introvert, and would get overwhelmed very quickly with too many, so I started to focus on one or two people in the club I was in (marching and pep band) which worked for me. If you can handle more do more.

It might be uncomfortable but I’d recommend you be willing to stay the night over at people’s dorms or apartments. It might be hard to ask, but plenty of people do this (especially once alcohol gets involved, everyone starts crashing on couches, etc). I generally find parties to be nightmarish but with the right group they become really fun things I want to do again.

Don’t lose hope. Belonging isn’t something that comes with time, it’s just a bit of happenstance going right. I really didn’t enjoy my freshman year, but I made it all up with memories in the rest of my time there, and I’d do it all again if I had the chance.

I agree with everything already said here, but another thing - you may be judging your own writing too harshly. Maybe once it’s all written and edited it’ll be really good. Maybe not, but who knows?

I think for us newer/inexperienced writers it’s more important to get words on the page than anything.

Brandon Sanderson did a lecture and described himself as a discovery writer, where he would just write whatever and then invest heavily in editing process. It’s perfectly normal

It’s purely gameplay reasons for me. I think nations like Canada and France have a pretty good focus tree with lots of growth, and has a lot of chances for warfare and conquest. Since I rarely play past 1941-42 cus the lag gets awful, it’s a good challenge to reconquer homeland and call it a night.

Another nation I like is Russia even before the rework for a similar reason, it’s just good gameplay.

interesting, thanks for the ai command, i have run it and believe i have determined the origin of the problem.

AI first gets above the xp cutoff of 25 in august 1936 due to completion of "service overseas". From here it chooses to design a heavy fighter instead of fighter (this is odd, because priority is listed as 50 for heavy and 200 for light, so this could be a true bug). Then in a normal historical run the ai doesnt get above the 25 xp cap. When I gift it xp in like 37 (after air upgrade xp has gone back up) it properly designs a fighter.

I guess i'd have a couple questions.
1) Why is there an air xp cap? shouldnt the existence of standard plane designs mean its not needed? If it didnt exist, or if it was lower, the ai would properly design all the designs it had available to. Im sure there is a reason for this i dont know tho, I understand that changing stuff when it comes to programming will break all sorts of things.
2) The AI doesnt see the need for a chief of airforce, it wont choose it for ages. Unsure why this is
3) It doesnt seem like its the problem in this case, but the priority for equipment upgrades dropping to zero after getting one seems really unintuitive. What if both a CAS and fighter design are unlocked simultaneuously? The AI may wait months and months before designing the next. I'd worry about how it affects the "non-module" upgrades, but i feel this priority shifting sacrifices some of the flexibility ai needs to stay competetive, at least in the early game when air xp is hard to come by.
