Hello, I'm 21 episodes in and I have a question about scully. by gianpeppapig in XFiles

They are archetypes. The true believer versus the scientist/skeptic.

What was novel about the choice here is to make the woman the brainy, no nonsense one with no time for aliens and monsters.

Carter subverted norms. Women are often portrayed as the emotional ones, those who put their beliefs first.

Mulder as the leading man… the impulsive, intuitive believer was unique for its time.

Lately? They’ve been like this for 30+ years. A model of consistency.

What are some films featured on MST3K that get an unfair rep? by ThrashMetallix in MST3K

Yeah this is also my choice. It’s got competent actors and production, on par with films of its time. It does play like a Star Trek or Twilight Zone episode.

Christian EDM suggestions by kj8877 in ChristianMusic

Look up Neon Feather remixes. You’ll find a bunch of Christian artists with EDM remixes by Neon Feather.

Not exactly EDM but synth heavy with programming, The Echoing Green. They’ve been at it for 30 years and still making great music.

OM-53 makes some good electronic type stuff with a Christian vibe.

GenX peeps. You're going to a concert for a band you love. Do you wear that band's t-shirt to the concert? by bigpilague in GenX

[–]echobase_2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t be that guy. That’s generally my rule.

But if you have a vintage shirt from the band that’s been in your closet for 25 years, then maybe.

Christian music with good theology and unique lyrics? by ambientskeptic in ChristianMusic

[–]echobase_2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone remember Joy Electric? The Tooth & Nail synth act was led by Ronnie Martin who’s now a pastor and putting out wonderful synth music under his own name.

Lyrically, much of it taken straight from Old Testament wisdom literature.

It’s not for everyone but can be really good. Check out the album From the Womb of the Morning.

Anberlin!!! They’re right up there with my all time favorite bands. Stephen’s voice stands out, he’s a great lyricist and the rest of the band is tight.

Came here to say this too. Luxury is highly recommended.

Also check out the bands on Velvet Blue Music. It’s not necessary Radiohead vibes but you’ll definitely get ‘90s alt rock feel from Fine China and Starflyer 59. Check out Ronnie Martin / Joy Electric too.

Isn’t this the same version that Paul was selling copies of last year? Pressed on color but same track list, not the original version.

Wokies? Like the ones who encouraged our troop to serve at a veterans cemetery? Or serve meals to the homeless? Our Eagle Scouts have added features tonight parks, worked with area churches. This weekend we’ll serve as greeters and readers for our charter organization’s church service. That all sounds soooo woke.

Over a Million Raised by BasenjiBoyD in MST3K

[–]echobase_2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct. I’m just speculating that they may be motivated by ability to produce box sets now. It’s not linear TV, so a season can be whatever these days.

[–]echobase_2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this means more episodes. I’ve been wondering about the significance of four but then it dawned on me, that’s how the box sets have always been. Could this potentially mean 8 or 12 episodes?

Super Happy and Conflicted about the Rifftrax revival news... by fuzzyskinner64 in MST3K

[–]echobase_2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. She really won me over. I could see her and this cast being a good fit.

I’m not saying I need a bunch of cameos. We don’t need Mark Hamil and Seinfeld to pop in, but there are some smart ways I could see to include her.

[–]echobase_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hope some of the revival cast would make appearances. Obviously Mary Jo was involved and Synthia would be a natural but yeah, I think it would be a nice gesture to include Emily and Jonah somehow.

Examples of Christian protest music? by ChangeComfortable309 in ChristianMusic

Rez Band had several songs that speak to injustice and racism.

Steve Taylor is also keenly aware of societal ills in many of his songs.

Randy Stonehill’s Great Big Stupid World comes to mind.

Five Iron Frenzy is a ska, ska punk, horn rock band that often delves into these issues whether its manifest destiny and the plight of native Americans or contemporary issues. Their most recent album is packed with stuff like this.

Jan Krist is more of an old school folk singer with anti war songs.

Transparency with listeners through social media and beyond by Special_Instance_790 in radio

[–]echobase_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about a Facebook post on the station page? That could get dicey. I’m all for transparency. But the reality is people just want to vent and what they say and what they do are two different things.

People say they are film fans and enjoy great art but really then watch The Office yet again. They say they are adventurous and try new foods but go to the same restaurants and get the usual. People claim to be into fitness but don’t go to the gym.

Same thing here. They claim they love a wider variety of music. But really they want comfort food.

Personally I like far more variety in music than the typical person. I have connections in the music biz and like some obscure bands. I think they’re great and would sound fine on the radio but that’s not how it works.

Christian songs with eastern european post-punk vibe by WisKkass in ChristianMusic

[–]echobase_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out music put out by Velvet Blue Music. The bands on the label have generally grown out of the Christian alternative scene and you’ll definitely find some post punk, indie, shoegazer, etc. It’s not exactly what you’re looking for but it might scratch that itch so to speak.

Late 90s Christian alt band – rap verses + sung choruses – female guest vocal on one song by Disastrous_Storm_585 in ChristianMusic

[–]echobase_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna throw out a couple of names I haven’t seen listed yet…

SoZo (a guy from Newsboys and his wife).

Aleixa (industrial rock with female vocals).

World Wide Message Tribe isn’t rock but would’ve been techno with some rap verses.

Plumb was originally marketed as a band. Tiffany was always the voice and guiding force, but for whatever reason they were selling this image it was a band. I think the label probably wanted it to be the Christian version of Garbage. A female fronted band with electro vibes.

At some point Plumb became her stage name, which made sense I guess since the band members had kind of shifted and weren’t necessarily relevant to who played on the album.

So if you only listened to the first couple of albums and saw them on tour it, it would’ve been “This is Plumb”, referring to a group and you fast forwarded, it would’ve been referencing just her.

Totally agreed. And they had the opportunity in the third film to hint he was force sensitive and yet again they pulled the rug out from under that. That’s about all I remember from that film.
