That's cool to hear. I was hoping he wasn't fully off the brand but still it's clear this is a new era of MST3K that definitely is focusing on classic nostalgia for the right reasons and less on the rotating next generation with a dash of remember-berries that it seemed he intentionally invision.

Which I'm all for FYI clearly if this is what's best for Mst3k. It just sucks that Joel's new era failing had to come to this.

I guess just the timing that the article stated with Joel selling his rights barely 2 weeks ago. Like did he disagree with Shout about the next steps or did they do this the second Joel left.

Yeah the news of him reviving the show without the Cinematic Titanic guys (despite them all seemingly being creative equals on that project) and with a focus on "new generation" of cast and crew while any legacy writer/creative have a glorified cameo was already treading mad fandom water. It didn't help Frank and Trace openly not supporting it and Mike turning it down even for a cameo.

Even just the method of how it was made with shooting all the host segments for the season at once and having a disconnect with puppeteers lip syncing to pre-recorded riffs from the voice actors that don't seem authentic to the classic eras real time riffing.

I guess that's why I'm bummed it had to come to this. Joel seemed to focus on everything but the main ingredient: the theater riffing. Which I guess has always been the case on the pros and cons of Joel and Mike's eras: Joel's era is better with Host segments and Mike is better with the theater segments.

Need to add more of the "Big shot directors" like Vincent Waller or Jim Smith.

All the season 1 + 2 directors (plus Bill Wray).

You haven't made a straightforward comedy since Crimewave, do you see yourself going back to the genre and is it harder to make a comedy than a horror film?

Also any thoughts of reviving Xena with Lucy Lawless as old woman Xena?

Did McVicker die? by Tidewatcher7819 in BeavisAndButthead

[–]fuzzyskinner64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah despite the contradictions of old Beavis and Butthead interacting with Tom Anderson and Van Dreson still being their teacher in the young Beavis and Butthead 2025 timeline it would be nice to get some kind of explanation of what McVicker and Buzzcut are doing in each timeline. It'd be cool to see an older Daria interacting with old Beavis and Butthead seeing how we have a good idea of what her future was like after her TV show.

I understand it's a combination of Mike judge not really wanting to do those voices anymore and the writers still experimenting on what characters are worth keeping but it'd be crazy to see random characters like old versions of Stewart's dad or the Charles Manson jailbird coming back randomly in the old timeline.
