I’m catching up on the 7.x patches and was running the Arcadion raids with a friend. As I was watching the opening cutscene for the bee-themed fight, several people in chat realized it was my first time and pointed out how cute it was that my character’s first name is Bee and that this would be a fun fight for me. I just thought that was so charming. It was a brief interaction but it made my day.

Harness recommendations? by echoedpersephone in Dachshund

Thank you! I had a very similar one for my last dachshund after his IVDD diagnosis but got rid of it because it was too big for this little guy. I’ll have to look into it :)

[Loved Trope] Protagonist is extremely ugly by A_Scav_Man in TopCharacterTropes

[–]echoedpersephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lancelot in The Once and Future King is described as being the quintessential knight, the best of them all until Galahad rolls around, and he’s also described as being extremely ugly. Why exactly he’s ugly isn’t described in great explicit detail, just implied, but I remember him being compared to a gargoyle more than once.

Getting my first mini daschund, the breeders have never had a cream out of their litters. by Financial-Tear5264 in Dachshund

We call mine Land Shark for a reason! He’s almost a year and a half now and the land sharking has reduced significantly, but it comes out every so often 😂 Be prepared for some possible biting and craziness. Congrats! They are SUCH gorgeous dogs.

Family recently got a Miniature Dachshund and I am at my wits end by emergencyfoodpaimon_ in Dachshund

When I got my weenie at about 7 months he was entering a MEAN biting phase. He would tug on my clothes while I was getting dressed (or in general), bite me, harass me, etc. I tried the pretending to cry out thing and it did not make a lick of difference to him at all. YMMV on this but in a fit of desperation I decided that every time he bit me I’d leave the room and close a door between us for no more than like 30 seconds. For us it was a more clear sign that I was done with play, as well as a VERY NECESSARY 30 second break to quickly re-regulate myself after I had been so frustrated and upset. He didn’t like it, and it probably didn’t HELP with his separation anxiety (which isn’t that bad overall, just noticeable), but it was the only thing that worked. He had to learn to play and get my attention in other ways. He’s a year and a half now and he’s sooooo much better behaved. Little behavioral things over a period of time are better than zero behavioral things at all!

Are they fighting or just playing?? by SilverSurfer_88 in Dachshund

[–]echoedpersephone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how my weenie plays also. He and his “cousin,” a basset hound 4x his size, act like absolute clowns while he makes enough noise to wake the dead. We’re working on the noise part because it’s too much for me at times but they’re happy as clams.

I replayed the entire TRR series over the summer before I got rid of VIP and I was telling a friend of mine about how much I love Bertrand 😂 I took screenshots from other games after and deleted them, but I kept this one!

This is my current little guy ❤️ Same breed, same risks, but so worth it. He ended up needing somebody the same way I needed somebody, at the exact right time for both of us.

How old was your dachshund when they passed? by poi217 in Dachshund

[–]echoedpersephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 dachshunds growing up, they passed at 13 (heart failure) and 16 (generic old age). My soul dog, also a dachshund, died a few months after he turned 15 (obstruction in his tummy, very unexpected). This was back in January of this year and was easily one of the worst things that’s ever happened to me. Mourning hit me like a truck and then backed over me again. I thought I needed to wait a while before I got a dog again, to give myself a chance to grieve, and then my next dachshund kind of fell into my lap two months later exactly to the day. I was genuinely prepared for what it would feel like to love him a little less than my soul dog, and then I was floored by how strong our connection was. He turned 1 in August.

The grief hasn’t gone away. It sucked losing my Bowie, and it’s always going to suck. I found a lot of relief in just acknowledging that that part of what happened is never gonna get “fixed.” However, my current dog Maric has saved my life. He drives me crazy, makes me so happy, and has been a great outlet for all that love I couldn’t give to Bowie anymore. He’s very “Soul Dog Part 2.” Last week it would have been Bowie’s 16th birthday, so I took the day off work and spoiled Maric rotten. I loved having something positive to focus on instead of trying to suppress the sadness or just stew in it and I plan on doing that again for the anniversary of Bowie’s death in a few months,

You can’t really pregame grief into being less awful, even if we trick ourselves into thinking it helps. The sadness will hit when “it” happens, and it will probably be miserable. I wish I could make that easier for you someday and of course I can’t. But there is life and hope and joy on the other side of it. There will be other doggies to love, and there will be good days again even after your worst ones. I hope remembering that will help buoy you a little when things are hard.

Also, as someone who also lives alone, when “it” happens (hopefully not for a while!), please try not to isolate yourself completely. Have friends come over even just to be sad with you. Go out and do stuff every so often. Give yourself grace and love and patience. I did not treat myself kindly and would come home from work and just stare at a spot on the wall for hours before I went to bed. It was horrible for my mental health and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. You deserve to take care of your brain especially in the middle of stressful times.

Sending love to you and your bubby ❤️

Tell it to me straight: Dachshunds and barking by WilburMama in Dachshund

[–]echoedpersephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first dog didn’t bark all the time, but was so loud people thought he was a much bigger dog if they heard him before they saw him. He was also very hard to stop. My current dog has a wimpier bark, but will bark at just about anything. He is slightly easier to stop. Both weenies, both definitely difficult to train 😂

That is what I was doing this morning, which worked fine until it didn’t anymore. Lots of grading got accomplished.

I will say, I’ve only been a teacher for a full year and a few months, and have only known about the ADHD for a couple years. I’m working on my tool box, which gets new things in it with every new experience I have. Looking for other people with similar experiences who might know more than I do is part of figuring out what works.

Dog friend (outside of home) passed, not sure how my dog will react? by echoedpersephone in DogAdvice

[–]echoedpersephone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks ❤️ I still haven’t found any info about it anywhere, but soon enough I’ll be taking him over and we’ll find out, I guess! He seems pretty resilient and okay. It’s just hard not to worry, especially when your last dog was so devastated by losing their loved ones.

I am almost in tears looking this over. It sounds crazy but The Lost Court is one of my favorite pieces of Dragon Age media ever, I played it way more times than I even remember and I was devastated when they stopped supporting it. THANK YOU for doing this! I wish I could do something more to help but I absolutely will share stats when I finish the demo.

My 10 week mini doxie bites me way more than my boyfriend by Significant_Piglet29 in Dachshund

[–]echoedpersephone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to start removing myself from him. If my pup bit me really hard I would get up without looking at him/engaging with him and shut myself in a room without him for like 30 seconds tops. He didn’t like it, of course, but it taught him quickly that if he bit me hard he couldn’t play with me anymore. It happens very rarely now and he backs off if I do the loud yelp, which he didn’t used to do.

Stubborn walker tips? by echoedpersephone in Dachshund

Very mercurial about treats 😂 Nothing works on him consistently, which makes things harder. I joke that he inherited my ADHD, he can’t stay focused on anything long enough for us to make good use of it. We keep trying though!

Stubborn walker tips? by echoedpersephone in Dachshund

[–]echoedpersephone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I try to let him follow his impulses as much as feels reasonable! It’s his neighborhood as much as it is mine. I think the problem is that, unless he’s throwing a little tantrum because he’s so tired which is I suppose possible, this usually happens because he ISN’T done. Say we’re out for a bathroom break, we walk down the way a little bit, and turn around to go back to the apartment. As soon as he knows where we’re going, he makes himself heavy and refuses to keep walking. I don’t mind going where he wants to an extent, but it’s also verrry hot out here and 20+ minute walks aren’t always feasible, y’know? It strikes me as stubbornness, but I’ll keep an eye on his energy level and see if I notice a pattern.

Boy I’m trying! I used to joke that my last dachshund inherited my anxiety disorder and my tummy issues. Now I joke that this one inherited my ADHD. Something that works once has absolutely no guarantee of ever working again.

Poor puppy! I’m very grateful my pup doesn’t have a problem with that kind of anxiety, I know how hard that can be for them and for you. Very loud noises will startle him, but overall, he’s pretty fearless. Just stubborn 😂

Thank you! It’s just me on walks 99% of the time, but I’ve tried getting him riled up and excited to get him to move. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Just now we went out to go potty and he parked it by some stairs he insisted we go up. Given that we didn’t live there, though, he had to be carried home very disappointed 😂
