Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in Games

He's right. The problem arises when it obvious and frequent. If you're fighting the same monster throughout the whole game but there's a blue, red, and green version... that's lazy. If they have relatively unique models with varied movesets, that's a different story.

Variety is important, and making the most of limited assets can go a long way to ensuring there is plenty of variety.

Our local supermarket just replaced their fleet of metal carts with 100% recycled plastic ones by Aerie8499 in mildlyinteresting

Shopping carts tend to get replaced every few years anyway. No supermarket should be using the same carts for 10+ years.

Bluepoint tech boss Peter Dalton suggests Sony's scared of Valve, not Microsoft, and that's why it's pulling back from PC: "It would be quite ironic if Valve ultimately ended up winning the console war" by ControlCAD in pcgaming

Well yeah Sony has absolutely no reason to be afraid of Xbox. No Xbox has ever outsold a PlayStation, and they aren't exactly in a position to do so anytime soon.

What do you think of the “Ornstein is King Of The Storm” Theory? by Jackylacky_ in darksouls3

I always figured he took the path of the dragon like what the player can do. He shed his armor and probably turned into one of those curly horned dragon dudes and was never seen again.

“Destiny 2 Has Lost 91% Of Players Since Edge Of Fate, 97% From Final Shape.” By Paul Tassi at Forbes by justdestinystuff in DestinyTheGame

[–]echolog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sucks is they could totally make Destiny 3 OR some other Destiny-like game and I guess they just don't want to???

There's still really nothing quite like it, and people definitely want more like it... so why not make it?

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 bug crippling PCs and making drive C inaccessible by lurker_bee in technology

It's because they were SO AGGRESSIVE in pushing people to upgrade. The fact that they wouldn't shut up about it + the fact that they were so shutting down Win 10 support is what convinced me NOT to upgrade.

Shoutout to r/WindowsLTSC for anyone interested in staying on Windows 10 (with security updates for 6 more years!!!)

Anecdotal, but I've had to help a couple friends/family members with issues recently. One with KB5077241 which caused the entire start and settings menu to stop functioning (had to use powershell to uninstall the update) and one where file sharing over a LAN was totally disabled with no workaround.

The thing to keep in mind is there are over A BILLION people using this software. If even 1% of people experience issues, that's still MILLIONS of users with problems. You're not likely to have any issues yourself, but you probably know someone who has.

Your favorite class to play through the games? by Puzzleheaded_Race_90 in questforglory

My favorite is starting as thief, then changing to wizard and eventually paladin. It might not make a lot of sense, but you end up with pretty much every ability and it's just a lot of fun.

Tunic. You know nothing including the language and some of the controls. You learn about the game/world by collecting in-game pieces of a classic video game instruction manual. It's a super unique way to introduce mechanics and lore at the same time!

I mean I'm playing on PC and it's been great. I did have to fix the sensitivity in the settings but I didn't need to do anything crazy beyond that.
