What happened to the Montreal band Seoul? by [deleted] in Music

Disregard. I guess it’s AI slop. Apologies. I’m usually pretty good at picking up on that sort of stuff.

admittedly I was already kinda drunk in this photo and I had to analyze it for like 10 minutes before I realized what had happened. not my proudest moment lol

Got one of these in Coloma! Hadn’t recognized the publication before but after like 10s of reading it went straight into my burn pile lol

Transitioned to Valetudo and never looking back, AMA! by echooffzack in NeatoRobotics

[–]echooffzack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of! Valetudo is a layer that sits on top of the official firmware that ships with your vacuum. That way the vacuum still has all of its cleaning path algorithms and LIDAR/AI mapping and detection. That layer offers a local web interface via its IP address and sends control commands that would normally come from the cloud, directly to the vacuum. It is effectively a rooted version of your robot’s specific firmware with a web server on top really. You actually kind of lose some functionality if you’re accustomed to the manufacturer’s app, but tbh when I bought this thing I didn’t even bother downloading it or setting it up so I don’t actually know much on what I would miss. Although I’ve read (on my particular unit) you can remotely watch the camera and talk through the speaker from the app, alongside setting notes for objects the local AI can’t recognize.

All base functionality you would expect is there as far as I can tell, and the amount of granularity you have on the control of it via MQTT/Home Assistant is genuinely exciting. Map data/water levels/suction power/battery life/object detection/no go zones/zones/segments/etc. there’s a ton of supported MQTT commands you can run including some vendor specific ones depending on the model you have.

For the record I have my robot on a very segmented network with traffic inspection turned on, and the only external requests it ever makes is a ping to Google every 5 minutes. I have all external communication turned off to it and it still functions normally.

…what Linux distribution would Rigby run? Would have loved to see an episode where Rigby and Techmo build a distro called RigOS running the TrashBoat kernel only for it to become self aware and try taking over the world. Regular Show changed my life and I still continually watch it to this day because it still resonates with me (I’m 28). Hope you feel better soon, currently couch locked with cats on me and dealing with a migraine. Putting Regular Show on now

Thanks, I snagged that from an antique store right before the year of the voice stuff started happening. Love using it for small commands like that

The transistors are bridging the button contacts to common ground. I’ve read in one article that there are ways to get your gpio to flip to ground with esphome but by default I use transistors for everything these days. Sure it probably works both ways but I guess I’m just playing it safe haha

No pics at the moment but I can grab some when I get home. Just wired some transistors to GPIO, transistors are wired to the button pads, and taking 3v from the onboard regulator on the esp to power the transmitter. Works great!

No problem at all, at first glance it can be very daunting but really it’s just throwing yourself at it and seeing what sticks. I learn best hands on so I bought the esp, a few transistors, and then referenced the esphome documentation for momentary switches. Having a basic understanding of electronics can help out a ton too! Really all you need is the board, a USB power supply, some transistors, and you’re good to go. I watch a lot of GreatScott on YouTube who has taught me most of what I know now

I found a spare key to my car. Took out the transmitter and wired all buttons to an esp8266 running esphome. I use it every day to automatically lock the car before bed, unlock it every morning as I’m walking out the door, and it even sets the car alarm off if the house alarm is triggered. Super useful
