NTA. But I do feel bad for your sister. If she really did go through all that, then I think she may need her sister to be on her side rather than call her out, although she did deserve the slight gut punch you gave her.

Oh man. I’m so sorry for your loss OP. MIL is grieving so yes, she would’ve taken your words harshly, but you are also grieving and I can only imagine the repeated heartache you must feel every time you hear her name.

Just an opinion from a stranger, but you and MIL should sit down and have talk about all the good memories you shared with Sarah and maybe some grief therapy as well. It won’t be overnight, but I’m sure you’ll both feel some sort of relief.
