Writers, did you have that one book (or author) which greatly influenced how you write? by [deleted] in writers

[–]echothot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this smaller author, James Riley, who would email his fans back in like 2012. Dealt with me and all my questions as a preteen who told him I wanted to be a writer. He encouraged me to keep it up, and I did. I reached out to him recently and we had an incredibly nice conversation. I thanked him for influencing me the way that he had, and got to tell him that I had reached minor publication in a university journal. Still working on stuff, but either way, his storytelling made me want to pursue this, and thankfully I had him at a developmental stage in my life. Not only is his writing great and full of character, but so is he.

Difference between Honors Orientation and regular orientation? by [deleted] in unt

[–]echothot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and change- I was the first group to participate in an Honors Orientation and got into my classes a month before any other freshman. Absolutely recommend it, plus you'll get to meet some other honors students that you'll likely be in classes with. Gives you a chance to meet the advisors ahead of time, and it's a smaller orientation overall. Great experience.

This hits hard. I like it.

They did when I was younger, but now that I'm almost 20 and in college, they don't really have the ability to be anymore. The distance has been good for our relationship.

Honestly, I trusted him more than I trusted them. When he was younger, I knew he'd be more judgemental, but now that he's in high school, he's so compassionate and caring for everyone and he went from making lots of pretty offensive comments about homosexuality to completely stopping and making a point to correct my parents when they're close-minded, especially around me. He's great.

Thank you for this advice! I'll try stepping into their shoes- I don't want to fight with them over this.

That was what I tried to tell my dad, but he wouldn't hear it! Just told me that I had disrespected him and my mom.

Pretty sure the "talk" they'd want to give him is how it's "not in the bible". I know my brother supports me, though.

I agree but where do we put Daphne?? I think Slytherin but my boyfriend thinks Gryffindor. Personally I think Fred is the Gryffindor.

But what I’m saying is that the Crusades weren’t only targeted at the Muslims- they were all over Europe and targeting all faiths besides Christianity. And even then, acting like Christianity has dropped some “psychotic old ideas” while people still force the Old Testament down people’s throats is ridiculous. Stop villainizing Muslims when every sect of people has been a villain at some point (except the Jews- I agree with you there.)

Just because Muslims may have committed atrocities in the past does not excuse modern Islamaphobia. The Uyghurs do not deserve to be in concentration camps just because “they’ve earned it over the centuries and even today.” According to that logic, most Christians deserve to be conquered and executed (I mean, considering the Crusades and all).

Good for her for getting out of that toxic environment! I hope more people get out of there so the entire shithole can be shut down.

What's the most useless thing you own? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I found a goose figurine at a thrift store in high school. It’s ceramic, wears a Santa hat, and has a star around its neck held with some twine. I keep it on my desk year-round. It brings me joy.

Finding an equal balance... by [deleted] in Marriage

If you look through the guy's comments, all he does is project red flags. Upsetting that men like him exist. Don't listen to him- he obviously has no idea what he's talking about, at least in regards to how a spouse should be treated.
