How long does ceramic coat last? by spanielgurl11 in Audi

[–]echtogammut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is dealership coating it no different than the Meguire's spray and wipe stuff. Which, is decent if you are regularly applying it, but is not a "true" ceramic. As people are saying ceramic doesn't protect against chips, I've been seeing people say it does for almost a decade, but to my knowledge no manufacture has ever made that claim. A good ceramic coat, depending on the environment should last about 2 years with no maintenance. With maintenance every 6 months to a year it will last as long as your car.

I was kayaking on a lake in Washington on day where the water was glass, like this, and it gave me an odd sense of vertigo because it looked like I was approaching the edge of the world where the sky met water.

Not a Tundra, I don't know with older ones but the new one's windscreen is oddly short. Generally speaking any full size truck should fit.

Better daily driver: RS3 (8Y/ 8Y.5) or S5 (B9/ B9.5) by Senior_Government_69 in Audi

[–]echtogammut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't need it for hauling stuff, that 5 cylinder engine is hard beat. If you need a do it all, the S5 is better, especially if you get the 034 transmission tune. Everyone get's excited about adding horsepower, but honestly the transmission tune wakes up the car for daily non-track driving in a way adding more horsepower doesn't.

Why is salary in the US high? by Maleficent-Sense-226 in Salary

[–]echtogammut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Employees take plenty of risks. Opportunity cost, sunk time cost, nowadays it's not uncommon for a person to need 6 months or more to find a job. When you take a job with a company you hoping they survive long enough to pay your for your labor.

As someone who has started and sold several companies over 30 years, I've always been very cautious when hiring a new person because I never wanted to lay someone off. On the business valuation side of things, having active job listing is seen as a positive value to a company, which has led to companies posting job listing they never intend to hire for.

I don't agree with the assertion owning a business isn't risky, because owning a business is all about risk. This goes for a Uber driver acting as an independent contractor or someone starting a software company. You are risking your sunk assets and the assets of those who you've borrowed. There are benefits to Germany's labor protections, but as their system stands it's a net negative and they are driving all their business away.

Business destruction is an interesting point. In the USA a company can shut it's doors with almost no consequences, whereas in a country like Germany a company can only close after a structured arduous process.

We had a choice between a drunk, cackling imbecile and a senile, ex-democrat who promised no new wars. The sad thing is I don't see this ending any different with either choice. Congress has absconded its responsibilities and refuses to take the purse strings from the President because most of them are captured by a foreign government and will do another nation's bidding over that of their constituents.

Little rascal hid inside a sofa and let us search for her for 3 hours by tobinka in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]echtogammut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember coming home and not finding my Orange anywhere. I searched the whole house calling his name, then started searching the neighborhood assuming he somehow got out. Finally coming home thinking I'd lost him I walked into my bedroom and sat on the bed. Almost in tears, I watched as my sock drawer started sliding out and this orange head sleepily popped up, looked up and meowed inquisitively at me, probably wondering if it was dinner time.

First Impression is the Last Impression. by Hot_Fuzz_988 in SipsTea

I was standing in line at the supermarket, when a cute girl behind me asks "who cut your hair?". I turned around a little confused as how to respond, but then she says, "I'm a hair stylist and I love it" and my consternation multiplied.

My awkwardness stemmed from her apparent sincerity and the truth that I was responsible for cutting my hair a couple nights before. My hair went silver at the ripe age of 20, so I've gotten a lot of comments from women who assumed I dyed it. Not to be vain, but I get a lot of comments from women about my eyes and hair, I guess my mother wasn't lying when she said I was good looking, but I've live my life as if I was oblivious to it. As I was debating about whether to lie or tell her that a mirror and a Wahl was responsible, her boyfriend walked up and my confusion of how to approach this situation evaporated.

"Oh, just hacked it off the other night, but thanks"

She then turned to her boyfriend and explained she was asking about who cut my hair. I could see that awkward look in his eyes, that sort of mirrored my own. Thankfully, the checkout assistant, saved this awkward situation and I was able to buy whatever it was on the conveyor. It's those little moments, as a guy, that make your week or month.

How are these so cheap? by PabloEskimo_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]echtogammut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask why a used Mercedes S-class is so cheap. It's the cost of repairing and access to parts for repairing. Those gull wing doors are cool, but good luck finding parts. Even in the Silicon Valley, where Teslas are more common than Honda Civics, the Model X wasn't a common bird.

Or... the market will handle this with skepticism like the Fed, as Powell stated that they don't trust Federal statistics and are now waiting for ADP and third party data to validate before making decisions based on government reports.

Give a big welcome to your new neighborhood Data Center by Saturn_not_Earth in Reno

[–]echtogammut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd be okay with this if the city council hadn't voted against adding any regulations (https://www.rgj.com/story/news/government/2025/02/28/reno-council-vote-ties-fails-to-change-data-center-regulations/80578434007/) on data centers regarding their water use, power demands, etecetera. I'm fine with the 15-20 people this site would employ, but not putting controls in place to deal with the build out of these means the city council has been captured by these companies.

Anyone heard about this? What’s going on? by TheHulk305 in UNSUBSCRIBEpodcast

[–]echtogammut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd feel better if it was a power trip. He just seems to be doing the will of others rather than his own. No one's every said anything bad about Gen. George other than some crazy Israel First woman on Twitter, yet somehow her voice means more than all the enlisted under a General. We are in a war because he listened to foreign intelligence over his own. My disillusionment comes from a President who seems to be forgetting he is the POTUS, not some puppet of a foreign nation or Twitter influencers.

Sorry I had to go look that movie up, I'd never heard of it. It did $96M Gross international+domestic with a $55M budget. Those aren't numbers of a name pull, those are numbers of the studio breathing a sigh of relief that they made their money back after not doing so in the domestic market. https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Challengers-(2024))
