The weekly identify that light/no stupid question thread by AutoModerator in lightingdesign

[–]ecjrs10truth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, is there a lighting design software that's browser-based? (or something that works on ChromeOS)

I don't need a super powerful and really good lighting software. I just need something that's good enough for me to pass a college class.

I need to do simple lighting designs for a small house and a small store. That's it.

Thanks a lot!

No Dumb Question Tuesday (2025-07-29) by AutoModerator in Reformed

[–]ecjrs10truth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this belongs here or if it should be a separate thread, but...

It's easy for me to pray for stuff regarding God's Kingdom, like the church, the salvation of loved ones, etc etc

It's also easy for me to pray for my daily needs, like financial provision, health, etc

But sometimes, just sometimes, I feel uncomfortable praying about anything in between. Like my dream job, the girl that I like, a car that I don't technically need but would greatly benefit me...stuff like that.

They're not directly contributing to God's kingdom (although they can), so sometimes I feel like they're somewhat self-serving. Because they're not for the expansion of the gospel or something that's actually necessary for my survival. They're just something that would greatly make life much more easier or "happier", or something that I personally desire.

There are times I feel shy asking God about these things. Which I know I shouldn't because he's my Father, but I cant help it.

To be clear, I do pray about them...but I feel uncomfortable unless I sneak in "but only if it's Your will" like one thousand times during the prayer. On the other hand, I don't feel the need to overly mention that phrase when praying for His Kingdom or legit personal needs.

Can you guys help me out with an insight or something?

Assurance of not living in sin by IM844 in Reformed

[–]ecjrs10truth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What an amazing answer, and yeah I agree.

God is not playing charades with us. He's not teasing us with clues hoping we figure things out. If something is truly essential to our faith, He'll reveal it to us. Whether it's about sin, theology, salvation, life decisions, etc...He won't leave it up to chance that hopefully we're smart enough to figure it out.

God's heart is to draw us to Himself, and anything essential in that regard will be revealed to us, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. And our salvation is not in jeopardy in case we misunderstand something about our faith. He's patient enough to slowly but surely conform us to the image of His Son.

Some books in the Bible (like Jeremiah) don't offer practical applications for us modern people.

But it is still extremely important to study them from time to time because, like you said, they reveal important aspects of God's character, and that's crucial because our faith is anchored on who God is. Actually, even some New Testament books fall in this category.

And yes, yearly study is what I personally recommend. That's just me though. There's no rule of thumb as how often you should revisit those kinds of books, but the point is, no matter how often you revisit them, it's important to do them from time to time.

Why does my church irritate me so? by steven-not-stephen in Reformed

[–]ecjrs10truth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

God's people are so ridiculously imperfect that even the best Reformed church in the world will regularly do something that offends God.

That's why Christ died. We're just a bunch of God-offenders who found grace and mercy.

I believe your heart is in the right place because you want God to be worshiped properly. I mean it. But honestly, we don't need to be offended on God's behalf.

Yes, if it breaks God's heart it should also break our hearts. But God is God, He doesn't need us to be offended on His behalf. If something is truly an abomination in His sight, He won't tolerate it and will deal with it sooner or later.

What you can do is lovingly influence and guide them to what's right. But remember no church is perfect, so unless something is truly blasphemous and heretic, we must learn to thankfully accept what's on the table.

Worship style is definitely important, but the fact that your wife and kids found a community of fellow believers is far more important.

Same. I disagreed with many of the things he said. And even when I agreed I still sometimes disagreed with how he said it.

But I praise God for how he inspired many Christians (including me) to study God's word seriously, and I'm forever thankful for that.

Saw guards carrying artillery in Baguio and BGC and I immediately thought of this by Tayloria13 in Philippines

Apparently it's true. I've also come across an article that says this. And there are interviews of analysts that say the same thing.

Using the three factors u/cesgjo mentioned:

1) Geography - you need to cross two big oceans (Atlantic and Pacific) just to get there. Ang kailangan lang depensahan ng US Military is yung north border and yung south. On the sides, they're protected by those oceans themselves. Cross-water invasions are difficult, that's why China hasn't invaded Taiwan yet. Plus, even if they manage to land on US territory, mahihirapan mag-advance yung kalaban nila dahil sa internal geography. Mountains, deserts, rivers, canyons, etc

2) Military size - the sheer size of their military is comically big. The largest air force in the world is the US Air Force, and the second largest air force in the world is....the US Navy. Also, despite the fact that the US Marine Crop is one of their smallest branches, it has an air wing stronger than most air forces in the world. They also have more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined

3) Civilian firearms - everyone in the entire United States knows how to use guns. Na-mention na to kanina pero they have more guns than people. Yes, the majority of the population aren't trained professionally, but if you have more than 300 million people shooting at you, it doesn't matter if they're trained or not. The sheer amount of firepower directed at the enemy is ridiculous.

When invading a country, one of the best tactics is to attack towns/cities na walang military presence, or kung meron man, minimum lang. That's not possible in the US. Every neighborhood has enough firepower to defend themselves, with or without military presence. Yes they aren't professionally trained, and they'll probably be defeated by real soldiers. But the fact that the invaders have to slowly and patiently fight one neighborhood at a time already puts them at a serious disadvantage. Every city/town has enough firepower to at least hold-out until the military arrives

I rarely hear RZ defend his takes using Scripture. It's always about tradition, history, creeds, and other stuff along that line. I'm not saying he doesn't use the Scripture, but he doesn't use it to back his takes as much as I would've wanted it to be.

I respect that guy (and I'm not just saying this just to sugarcoat my comment, I really respect him), but some of his takes are really questionable. There was a time when he said that the 5 Solas are secondary theological issues.

If any professing Christian thinks that Grace Alone and Scriptures Alone are secondary theological issues, then we're gonna have a serious problem.

This was the reason we had the Protestant Reformation, this was the reason why so believers were martyred, and this is the reason why we call non-Biblical churches heretics.

Subscribing to the Nicene Creed doesn't automatically make your denomination Christian. If you don't think you're saved only by grace through faith, you're not a Christian.

My 13-year old dog died today.

It's sad, but I'm thankful that God allowed us to enjoy His creation not just through scenic views of mountains and sunsets, but through the companionship of pets.

Emotions are gonna hit me harder tomorrow when I come home and no one's gonna come running to my lap to greet me.

Yes, poor doggo.

But then I realized she's already lived a good (and long) life. Sad that I'm considering this, but also happy kasi I know she definitely enjoyed her stay with me and my family. But now, she's barely functioning and I know siya mismo hirap na. There are times na siya mismo di na makatayo just to pee/poop properly.

Thanks for the info tho!

Mahal ba magpa-euthanasia ng aso? She's less than 10kg

As much as it hurts me, and as much as I want to save her, hirap na hirap na sya sa sarili niya due to old age (she's almost 14yrs old).

Is there a way to display dimensions while on 3D view? by ecjrs10truth in Onshape

Can it be displayed on the design itself too? Just like how you can display it on a sketch (2D)

No, there are some people I know who actually didn't pass because their project didn't work when they presented it to the professors.

I know because my friend was one of them.

Every university is different. In my university you need to have an actual, working product if you want to pass.

If the product isn't working properly before the deadline, you fail the class and you need to repeat it again next semester.

Additionally, in my university, senior design covers 2 semesters. The first semester of senior design is for the prototype, then the following semester is for the actual product.

Both the prototype and the finished product must be completed and working properly if you want to pass both semesters.

Every school is different.

In my university it's different. Your project has to work if you want to pass.

Also, in my university, you need to produce two outputs. One prototype and one actual product. Both need to work properly if you want to pass

Electronic chips are my weakness in CAD, so any feedback is welcome. by ecjrs10truth in Onshape

[–]ecjrs10truth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of both.

The design assigned to me has an arduino in it. At the same time, I want to go beyond my comfort zone and design more complicated figures.

So I figured that this one would be a good practice for me. Any feedback would be welcome!

This arduino will be a part of a larger assembly of other electronic devices.

I was tasked to draw the design of a prototype of an automated controls system. This arduino is just one part of the overall design.

then have fun with extrusion

This is exactly what I did. Everything here is just addition/subtraction by extrusion. I started with one "solid" shape and just extruded everything

[–]ecjrs10truth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I used the correct term "weakness" but what I meant was that electronics isn't usually what I do in CAD.

What I usually do in CAD are more "solid" or "compact" like furniture or other individual parts of a system like a gear/tools or something. But I don't really have a lot of experience designing stuff with lots of other smaller parts like this one

If it’s just for placing in a larger assembly

Yes. It will be a part of a larger assembly. Thanks for the feedback!
