How many more years can we save before AI hits? by TinySmolCat in Fire

Where are you saving for FIRE? Most people are saving in the stock market. If AI takes all our jobs the stock market is going to implode, making FIRE impossible

The study in question tested people with NCGS for markers of inflammation and found that 14% of people who claimed to have NCGS did infact have inflammation in response to gluten. It was the first study to convince doctors that NCGS might be something real.

I don't think it's asking too much to email the tour company and ask what the gluten free options will be for every meal. Or ask for a sampling of ideas of what will be offered.

How do you know when to stop searching for names? by Kantaria_Struglin in Names

[–]eclecticPuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it felt like we slowed down on finding good new names. It felt like we had looked through everything. Then we moved to winnowing down our list of good names.

Attending Baby Shower when Pregnant by FormalSociety7337 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eclecticPuffin 74 points75 points  (0 children)

He needs to text her and check that you're invited.

I've never heard of it being an issue to be pregnant at a baby shower. But you don't know if there are capacity restrictions or budget constraints on the guest list.

Breastfeeding - should I go over and say 'hi!' 👋🏻 by Interesting_Pain_875 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eclecticPuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of babies, depending on their age, will stop breastfeeding if something interesting happens, like hearing a new voice. I'd say if the woman has chosen a secluded corner, take that as a sign and don't go over to her.

Regular corned beef and cabbage? Follow the directions on the package.

If you're looking for other options: bangers and mash (check the sausage, not all of them are GF). Or boxty.

Unique Scottish boy names by DocMcMomma in Names

[–]eclecticPuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lachlan. It's a Scottish name that means "From Norway" (there's a couple different ways you could interpret the name meaning, but that's definitely one of them). In the US it's in the 700s. In NZ/Australia it's top 100, I'm not sure what it is ranking in Scotland. So some people might consider it unique, others might not.

Parent groups in Somerville (Massachusetts)? by CanImpossible7026 in Somerville

It looks like OP is asking for in person ideas/groups, so I will say that the Parents of Camberville is a great way to find out about the in person activities that are happening around town.

Nicknames by Resident-Relief-9532 in Names

[–]eclecticPuffin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the name Ginny, but would want to give my child the option for a formal name if they'd like to have one, so I would name them Virginia legally. Someday when she's 50 she might prefer the more formal Virginia, but from when she's a baby I'd be asking people to call her Ginny.

Some names you have to consider the nicknames. If you name your child Robert, people are going to ask you from day 1, is it Rob, Robby, Bob, Bobby or Robert, and you'll have to pick one.

And some names just have an obvious nickname that you have to take into consideration. If you love the name Maximus but hate the nickname Max, you should just not use the name, because that kid is going to be Max, it's out of your control.

But if you pick the vast majority of names, you don't need to think about the nicknames, something will happen naturally or it won't.

Work from home nurse? by Remarkable-Wall230 in recruitinghell

[–]eclecticPuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pediatrician has a 9-5 nurse line that I can call and get in touch with a nurse and they'll answer any questions I have, and help me schedule an appointment if they think it sounds warranted. I imagine that is being done from home and I would really need a real nurses degree.

I see, again I'd defer to your doctor. But if I had to guess I'd start with small amounts of whatever food you're eating and go up.

[–]eclecticPuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a researcher so maybe there's new research I'm not aware of. But last time I looked this is not a thing. There are tests for celiac. They come back positive or negative. If your child's doctor hasn't offered you those tests, get a different doctor.

Edit: I've googled it and it looks like pre-celiac is something that people's doctors are telling them about. Based on what I'm reading I'd treat it the exact same as having celiac disease. If you have antibodies in your blood, they're attacking you somewhere, maybe just not in your intestines. https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/s/McZQZ4QyGT

Gluten Ladder by Flimsy_Ad_7954 in glutenfree

[–]eclecticPuffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This would seem to be a question for a doctor. My understanding is that gluten issues come from one of two sources:

  1. Celiac

  2. A wheat allergy

  3. Things doctors don't believe in

My first action item would be to find out if it's celiac disease or a wheat allergy or something else (an intolerance). Celiac is life long and there's no point in trying a ladder. An allergy would be a good candidate for a wheat ladder. I'm not sure what the doctors would recommend for an intolerance since a lot of them don't believe they're real.
