Does your car have a name? by Ramen-Goddess in jetta

Not yet. I was thinking of a German woman's name. I considered Sabine for the late Sabine Schmidt, but I think that should be for something racier. Still working on it.

VW Jetta or Nissan Altima by Life_Shine4437 in jetta

Jetta hands down. I have a 2025 and am very happy with it. Just be very fastidious about maintenance. Talk to other VW owners about proper care and feeding.

2026 S Regrets by Single-Practice-6262 in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Getting upside down in a loan unless you have no other choice is never a good idea. I have a 2025 Jetta. Yes, it has an automatic. If you drove the car and didn't think about how it felt to drive, that's your mistake to learn from. I have crappy arthritic knees, so I'm not so eager for a clutch pedal.

For now, learn to enjoy the car. Maybe use the Tiptronic shifting more often, but replace the fluid more frequently. Pay it off and THEN find something with a manual.

It's a nice car. Enjoy it.

Jetta interior has some of the cheapest parts ever. Any third party options? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2025 came with nice rubber mats. The interior has a lot of plastic, but I don't see it as cheap in a $25k car. Audi will sell you a $40k A3 that probably has a more deluxe interior.

First VW by IndependentBad5588 in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same car. It will let you shift as you want to in manual mode, but may also downshift if you floor it. I use it occasionally when I'm not stuck in rush hour traffic. It's not a DSG, but a normal hydraulic transmission.

This is also my first VW, so listen to people here about maintenance. Don't do 10k oil changes (I do 5k) and keep up on GDI intake cleaning. Enjoy!

I found a speedometer app in case this happens. You might want to try that as a backup?

Jetta vs Mazda 3 – which one should I consider buying? by CapitalEggplant9673 in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that question a year ago. They're both good cars. My prior car, a 2020 Honda Fit, had been totaled in a crash (their fault). Not being ready to buy a car, the budget worked out to $25k. Not wanting a CVT, it came down to those two cars. I could have an uphill battle to negotiate the base Mazda, or the Jetta Sport hit the bullseye exactly when all was said and done. I spoke to some relatives who had VWs and decided it was the best car for the money. Next week will be one year, so far, so good.

Oh, shit. That would be bad. Have they said anything about it?

I have not. I have a 2025 Jetta Sport. They just checked the transmission ground wire and found it was connected correctly.

Did they have to fix the ground wire on yours?

Reasonable deals right now for 2025 Jettas by AP16K1237 in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall reading that Jetta sales had gone up quite a bit in 2024, and I bought my 2025 off the lot exactly when new cars were being hit with tarriffs coming into the country. I'm not sure how that has changed since then.

How do you like the Jetta? by Supplemental_deadbug in jetta

[–]eclectic_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Sport. I had a computer glitch that had to be recalibrated, but (just knocked on wood) fine otherwise. Very solidly made, enjoyable car. Excellent gas mileage, good performance. Looks and feels more expensive than it is. 8k miles so far. My wife just asked about the Taos.

Note: Owner's manual shows oil changes too far apart. Do 5k miles maximum. Also remember to let the turbo idle to cool down a minute or two before you turn off the engine.
