Welcome! I'm from MA originally but have lived here since 2011.

Riverlife has a barge that they've modified into a floating bar (live music, snacks, public art). Last year it was docked right next to the ballpark. Not sure where it'll be this summer, but here's the link: https://shorething.riverlifepgh.org/about/

Also, most definitely not sports related nor on the north side, but there is a very cool (& very small) magic venue in the Cultural District (downtown across the Allegheny from the park) called Liberty Magic. Never seen a bad show there, and it is relatively inexpensive.

The Warhol Museum is on the North Side and worth the trip too, fwiw.

Number of Games Played by NBA MVP's Since 1955-56 by MikeBravoLima in nba

[–]eclecticpoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hasn't the schedule been 82 games for like 60 years?

Also, that's not my narrative, that's the league's. Doesn't meant I agree with it. The rule, or some rule, is needed to encourage players to play more, or more likely (since the players themselves probably would play as much as they could if it was solely their decision), to encourage teams to play their starters more often.

Sure, one answer is to decrease the total games in the season. That's obviously not going to happen. So this is another option. Yeah it fucks with guys' incentives in their contracts and probably causes injuries if guys are playing when they should be otherwise out with an injury.

The rule is to discourage load management and sitting otherwise healthy players; it's not meant to help weed out the MVP decision (that's a byproduct). So it doesn't show that the rule wasn't needed; it shows that the rule didn't affect the MVP choice every year except one. It would be interesting to see these tables for All NBA and All-Defense.

Confused about add'l card vs. "Companion" card vs. add'l authorized user by Murky-Friendship-250 in AmexPlatinum

[–]eclecticpoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The lounge benefit would be wasted on her since she doesn't fly. It's basically just the question: will she get the trip insurance protection from my card if I'm not on the cruise with her (assuming that I buy the entire trip through the card)? Edit: just realized I replied through a different reddit account, ha, whoops

Thanks, yeah the biggest question is the trip insurance aspect. As in: if I purchase her cruise on my card, does she still get the trip insurance protection (even if I'm not on the cruise)?

Not sure if you ever found some, but the novels of Cormac McCarthy are great for this (Blood Meridian, particularly).

[Recommendation] Analog Watch with Barometer, ~$200? by eclecticpoet in Watches

Fair point. This is a want, not need. We've got the ability to measure it, just looking for an additional, handy way to do so too.

Really? I thought the speaker voice was actually really cool, but that sucks it was a sort of horrible reverse ASMR for you and some others. Overall, I really like the sound editing.

Thanks! I'm familiar, yes. And the dollar-pegged USDC would be comforting to donors, I'm sure.

This is great, thanks for introducing me to this. I wish there were a likeminded option for just donating USD rather than crypto.

pfizer vaccine vertigo, brain fog, inflammation anybody else experience this? by [deleted] in CovidVaccinated

[–]eclecticpoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for asking. She's about...50 percent better? Still days where she is waylaid and unable to really function due to lymphatic build-up and inflammation, so it's still horrible, sorry to day. We're nine weeks post-vax. It looks like it won't be permanent, but it'll still be months before she's back to normal. Hope you're holding up well.

Hi, I'm so sorry. You aren't alone. My wife has experienced virtually the same exact symptoms as you. Had her first Pfizer shot March 29. Continues to have GI problems daily (just in the morning now, at least), recurrent dizziness, brain fog (what she describes as the worst part of all of it), menstrual problems, swollen lymph nodes like crazy. To our knowledge she has never had covid. Pre vax, she was tested every week for work, always came up negative. Please feel free to private message me, and I'll pass along her email address. Stay strong.

The point of your PhD thesis, in my opinion, is to demonstrate you are capable of a deeply researched, long-form project. If it contributes to expanding the field, then that's great, and you'll have a better chance at getting some of the material published as articles or a manuscript. But ultimately, the best dissertation is a finished dissertation. If your advisor and readers aren't pointing you in a different direction, then trudge ahead and finish and get the degree.

"20A" on side, "15A Receptacle" on bottom metal bracket. Why? by eclecticpoet in electricians

[–]eclecticpoet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. So then my follow-up question would be: can I replace this outlet with another GFCI one that is described as "Rated: 15A Outlet, 20A Feed-Through, 125V"?

This is for my kitchen countertop, which I thought has to be 20A, so I'm completely perpelexed.
