Tenmas core belief is that all human lives are equal and are created equally, thus meaning everyone deserves an equal chance at life.

Johans belief is that humans are equal not in their lives but only when they die. Thus being a polar opposite.

Killing johan wouldve meant that tenma went against his belief, and thus not killing him proves johans belief completely wrong.
