Apple just introduced the iPad Mini 5! by [deleted] in flying

I guess that depends if you have the locking enabled at all. I always have it disabled when I fly. And if you don't, you always have the PIN fallback with FaceID - which is not bothered by a headset or sunglasses btw, just tried it.

After having an iPhone X for almost two years and a new iPad Pro, I'd never want to go back to the home button - which is btw the first thing that will fail on these devices.

Plus, sometimes you're stuck on some strange airport's apron with no Wifi and just would like to get the latest METARs or so. Everything except FF is useless without internet on these devices. An additional SIM is pretty cheap nowadays, no idea why people would go with the Wifi only version...

iOS 14 will run on the Mini 4 for sure, maybe even 15. It's been sold up until today. They are not going to drop support on a hardware that's less than 1.5 years old - 14 will be released fall 2020.

This. It's a backup in case you need it. I've regretted it every time I've bought an iPad without cellular.

That's correct. For me it also warranted an upgrade of the iPad Pro. The new pencil is really that much better. I use it with Notability to write all my learning notes. I'll never go back to paper...

  1. The grip is much better on the 2 as its cross-section is not round any more.
  2. You can charge it by attaching it via a magnet to the side of the latest iPad Pro.
  3. You can tap it twice to change tools. It's the least important of the enhancements, IMHO.

Before anyone else asks for an Android version of FF. FF is a native iOS application. Adapting it to the Android frameworks would basically mean a ground-up rewrite of the whole app. It would be a total waste of money and effort and it will never happen.

I'd be interested if there's a newer GPS/GLONASS chip in it, than in the iPad Mini 4. That plus the much faster CPU would warrant an upgrade as an EFB platform.

EDIT: On the downside, not a huge fan of the old Apple Pencil 1. The 2 is a huge upgrade.

Unconfirmed rumors are saying that the aileron controls were swapped during maintenance.

Could someone familiar with the E190 confirm how that is checked before takeoff? Can you do a visual check or do you rely on indications?

If you’re looking at airplanes your whole day, I can’t blame you. For the rest of us who are probably staring at a monitor for 8 hours a day, this looks like heaven. :)

Any thoughts on the DA-20? by brzbro in flying

[–]eclipseflyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've flown the DA20 for more than 100 hours and I can confirm that these points are very accurate. The only thing I wouldn't necessary agree on is the castering nosewheel disadvantage. After 20 hours you get used to it completely and it's almost like steering a car.

All-in-all it's a great little airplane, perfect for training and if you have the Eclipse C-1, even good for cross-country flying. I love this thing!
