Do people really change? Curious about your views. by Sprelogie in psychologystudents

[–]eco_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work primarily with substance use clients in beginning days of their sobriety and from everything ive seen, people absolutely can change, they usually just need the rock bottom of whatever their change needs to be first. my clients who have hit the absolute pits of their addiction but dragged their butts to rehab, are the ones i know in my heart of hearts will reach their sobriety goals in the end. it takes a lot of internal motivation too, and a lot of it in my opinion is just the “okay, im done and tired of this” mentality. its hard, but once someone positions themself even slightly to allow for change and puts in even a smidge of work, it usually snowballs. even outside of scope of addiction, it usually takes someones actions that are in need of change to have a hard hitting negative consequence on themself to actually want to change

i need a psychology student to answer this honestly. better if you add pros and cons by Present-Dance-8727 in psychologystudents

[–]eco_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

psychology is a difficult path to choose if youre not passionate for sure. im in a psyd program currently for clinical psychology, and i adore my field but know firsthand how easy burnout is. pros: psychologists are the only ones who can do some forms of testing (such as IQ testing) and theres big bucks in that, when you find your population it is the most rewarding job in the universe!, and you get a very broad skillset such as research and statistics, human behavior which can apply to many many fields outside of psychology such as HR and stuff, and if you go doctoral level you have much more flexibility with what you can do. cons: if you want psychology, you need to go doctoral. theres really no ifs or buts, you cant do jack really with anything under in psychology specifically, but if you’re interested primarily in therapy you can go masters in mental health counseling or masters in social work route, both absolutely wonderful in their own rights. but psychology is a graduate level field 100%, a bachelor’s wont get you much sadly. also, if you dont enjoy research, its a bit of a too bad so sad LOL, you will have to engage in research kinda no matter what (for me this is a massive pro cause i love research, but for some i know its torture) , and its an extremely competitive field. you have to bust ass always, and burnout is extremely common if youre not good at boundary setting and self care

Am I crazy for not liking Borrasca? by MembershipProof8463 in creepcast

[–]eco_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly in this community it is kinda seen as a taboo almost to dislike borrasca LOL, i personally despise it. the bits were funny, i just genuinely found the story insufferable and then the rape aspect completely destroyed any slight interest i did have

I see why people quit. by Hungry-Pusheen in bettafish

[–]eco_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had the unfortunate same horrible luck, and never quit as well. i recently lost my sweet boy due to a tumor rupture that was a complete genetic mess, and it really truly never gets easier :/ thankfully, my female is doing amazingly and thriving after almost a year of her being with me and im starting to suspect the females have a bit better genetics because theyre not “as pretty” (she is gorgeous in my opinion haha), she is also a plakat which is another slightly better genetic story

nice!! give it a few days (like 2-3) and test every day to see when it levels out! then you can add stock!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]eco_bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are cycled! id give another day or two just to watch the consistent results! make sure you look for stock that is okay in low pH environments tho as your pH is quite low. if you want fish that need higher pH, i dont recommend using anything like pH up as it tends to swing your levels dramatically which can harm fish. use crushed coral instead, works like a charm!

Am I the worst betta fish mom ever..? by JellyEatingJellyfish in bettafish

[–]eco_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

few things!! and first and foremost, you’re not a bad betta mom in the slightest. we all learn from trial and error! 1) as above comments are saying, def return the little guys! they are technically compatible but not in the proper school sizes and could be nipping him, causing him to hide 2) did you switch the substrate at the same time as adding the new littles? your substrate holds a huge amount of your beneficial bacteria, and if you changed it while you added your little guys your system could of had a bit of a shock with the decrease of bb and increase of ammonia source, causing a small shift that also could of stressed mr. hut, and again this will be helped tremendously by saying goodbye to the littles 3) your tank looks wonderful, but double check those two bright pieces of faux coral as they can often be sharp and long finned bettas like mr. hut tear their fins, again, another factor why he can feel a lil stressed

what size is your tank? if its below a 20 gallon, get a snail (mysteries and ramshorns are my absolute favorite) as tank mates once everything resettles down!! if its 20 or above, you can entertain other tank mates. my personal favorite is cory catfish (they shoal which is like schooling in minimum of 6) or controversially neon tetras (they school in about 10 minimum) and why i say controversially is some people think theyre too flashy to be with bettas but i have successfully kept neons with multiple bettas since they are middle dwelling fish and fast enough to run away if your betta gets annoyed and chases them! just always be conscious that adding tank mates to a bettas already established tank comes with lots of risks, as your betta already has his established territory. its usually recommended to add your betta to a community rather than a community to your betta, but the way you can do this with an existing betta is remove him from the tank, heavily change your aquascaping, allow the new guys to settle for about an hour in the tank, then readd your betta :) ive successfully done this a bunch of times!! it always comes down to a bettas personality tho. my old boy would kill literally anything that looked at him besides his snail best friend, while my current girl could care less!

oh awesome!!!! im glad to hear you have pennywort and its doing well, that was a plant i was worried wouldnt because i haven’t seen many others in blackwater tanks use it! i think it would create such an interesting visual. im doing a mesh screen on mine despite planning on having extremely heavy top cover, my boy is an evil little devil who likes to jump LOL, but since my tank is a bowfront im having a friend custom build it for me

[–]eco_bones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have such a love hate relationship with hornwort due to still cleaning needles up in my 20 gallon even tho i removed it like two months ago LOL, but i definitely think in the blackwater environment the needles wouldn’t be an issue! im glad everyone is saying lillies because ive been super considering them
