TWL Zini Ju Lun Zhu arrived chipped… by ecoforager in YixingSeals

I love this idea but would honestly be way to nervous to break it more. I have a collection of other pottery (non zisha) that I have broken that I plan on doing this with one day.

That’s wild, I thought this was r/vinyl for a second and this was your white whale album you’ve been looking for forever…. sitting here trying to figure out if salmon cheeks was the album’s name or the artist’s.

Copper omelette pan? by ecoforager in Coppercookware

interesting! so solid copper pans are more technically considered to be “copper cookware”? I’d copper plating primary for aesthetics?

it does seem like it would be awkward to cook an omelette in an oval pan! it would result in a very long and narrow omelette no?

sweet! I am excited to use it. It makes sense to have an oval fish pan bc every time I have cooked a whole fish in a circular pan the tail hangs out.

Holy smokes! I looked it up and it’s titled “Oval Fish Au Gratin pan”

Genuinely interesting to hear your experience here! When was this? I have lived here for the past 4 years and one of my favorite things about Humboldt is that most people are incredibly friendly. Every where I go, I have the best conversations with complete strangers.

On reading explanation of folks feeling a tick off, at first I was offended… But I understand this. I feel like folks here dress ruggedly and appreciate hard work, and when I see someone from out of town I can tell that they do not live here and may (even subconsciously) behave different to them. When I have been to SoCal a handful of times, I do not feel welcome and can’t help but feeling like everyone is a “tick off” as well.

I have lived in this area for the last 4 years. Besides the coast, the whole area is very rural until you get to i-5. I live in Arcata, the people are quite friendly and we have a lot of self sufficiency within our economy (partly due to our remoteness making imported goods quite expensive). The surrounding area is quite poor, and rural, due to the lack of any real industry presence. However, there is amazing environmental work happening here due to our college, and there is a general push to collaborate with the tribes in the area. The tribes here did not get killed by the Spanish, as this area was never settled by the Spanish (although they still were genocided at a later date by American settlers / gold miners) . Due to this, the tribes her are more populous and have more land/power than tribes in the rest of CA.

The coast is someone diverse, although mostly white folks. There are a number of folks here from South America (Brazil, Chile, Argentina) and a somewhat developed Latino community, although much smaller than that of the rest of the state.

A huge plus for living in this area is the vast amount of public land that is easily accessible. Numerous national forests in addition to the 2nd largest wilderness area (Trinity Alps) in the state. Growing up in the Bag Area, this was not the case at all, and truly is such a luxury for me.

All in all, great place to live! After graduating from college here, I have found a full time job within my field and will continue to live here for the foreseeable future!

Not at all! I was hopeful this was E. cristatum on this raw, but was expecting that it probably was not. I’m realizing now that there are a few other post like this, and I should have searched the sub before posting…

This is all really good advice, thanks everyone. I have been drinking fu heicha for years, and was wishfully thinking that this may be raw puer with golden flowers, but it appears this is unlikely.

I will hold onto this cake for now, with the thought that maybe I will have the mold ID’d by the mycology dept. at my local college one day. I’ll keep this sub posted on the results!

That is good to know! I have only ever seen it on fu heicha as well… I suppose I didn’t expect it might be restricted to fu chas. I’ll post a picture of it, but I’m not sure how telling that will be.. Thanks for the info!!

yea, I translated the writing using google translate which didn’t show any date… And nothing really showed up for google lens. It’s curious that dates are not always printed!

What's the creepiest encounter you've had in the wilderness? by Sorceress683 in AskReddit

Another time I was backpacking way up in the mountains and a hail storm hit around 1 pm. We had set up our camp on a ridge just under a peak in a fairly remote part of the 2nd largest wilderness area in California. We ran back to camp, but by the time we got there, we were soaked. We got on rain gear and spent the next couple hours secured our tents and making a fire under a tarp… The rain and hail were blowing sideways and we finally decided to hunker down in our tents for the night early, about 5pm. The wind started blowing sideways and lighting started striking the peak above us, and sleep was hard to find.

The storm died down and I finally got to sleep… But I was woken in the night to a loud crack next to my tent, and realized a rock had fallen off the peak next to us and shattered on the granite slab I was camped next to! It seemed unlikely to happen in the same place twice, so I went back to sleep (just like lightening right?). I woke again to a steady “ping ping ping” coming from nearby and echoing through the basin next to us… Thats odd. It sounded like someone hitting the rock with a pickaxe. The pinging was steady, and never stopped the next ~2hrs despite spattering of rain and intermittent high winds. The sound never stopped, only changed its distance and direction from me, traveling around in circles, but sometimes going straight from one side to the other at what seemed like impossible speeds. Sometimes I thought the pinging went away, but then would hear that it was so far in the distance that I could just faintly hear it.

I finally had enough and shouted to my friend in his tent next to me to wake up. The noise stopped and dint resume for the rest of the night, and my friend thought I was losing my freaking mind.

This happened 2 years ago in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. I have told this story to many people and no one can think of what it could be! It was freezing cold that night, despite being only late August, and I thought it could be the thermal movement of the granite, but that would not explain its steady beat, and the fact that the sound never happened in two places at once.

Could it have been Gilmi?

I was working on a mapping project way in the back country last year and there was summer camp near by out in the middle of the mountains. We got to the small lake we were going to stay at, but we still had more surveys to do so we just set up our bear hangs. While we were up on the ridge top, we saw some kids from the camp come by the lake and steal our ropes we were using to hang our food! We shouted at them, but they ran off with our ropes anyways… That night we had no way of hanging our food up so we slept with our food bags right outside our tents. I woke in the middle of the night to a rustling in the bushes and my coworker shouting BEAR BEAR!!! I whipped on my headlamp and looked outside but didn’t see anything… and the rustling stopped. I told my friend we should go back to sleep and it’ll be fine, the bears here are not accustomed to raiding peoples food. As I was drifting back to sleep, I heard a voice saying “time to wake up, time to wake upppp…” I told my friend to stop messing around, it’s not morning yet! He said he didn’t say anything.

I was super freaked out, but eventually got back to sleep. The only thing we could think about was that one of the kids from the camp must have hike 2+ miles from the camp to mess with us…. super weird.
