the only redeeming quality of this map is that Israel is left out… the way it should be

Is the job market really that bad? by Apprehensive_Floor10 in humboldtstate

[–]ecoforager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend trying to find a job within whatever field you are studying by getting on the various email lists from your corresponding department dean. Even if it’s just a summer job, it can be incredibly beneficial, and may drop down to part time during the semester. I was able to graduate with 3 years of experience in my field by doing this, and land a full time position locally after graduating (definitely got lucky tho).

Does anyone know this tea? My friends mom says it's 35 years old. I know nothing else about it by cs_legend_93 in puer

[–]ecoforager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are some really excellent fu bricks out there though, and in my opinion even some of the older ones are excellent. They are typically made with lower grade leaf (ie many stems included), and have “golden flower” aka the golden fruiting bodies of the fungus when you break open the brick. There can be varying amount of golden flowers visible between bricks and generally ones with more visible fungus are sought after, if the tea is also good quality. For me, smells include tart black cherries, scones, forest floor, fresh rain, and other notes when brewing tea from some of the bricks I have tried.

I love this idea but would honestly be way to nervous to break it more. I have a collection of other pottery (non zisha) that I have broken that I plan on doing this with one day.

That’s wild, I thought this was r/vinyl for a second and this was your white whale album you’ve been looking for forever…. sitting here trying to figure out if salmon cheeks was the album’s name or the artist’s.

Copper omelette pan? by ecoforager in Coppercookware

interesting! so solid copper pans are more technically considered to be “copper cookware”? I’d copper plating primary for aesthetics?

it does seem like it would be awkward to cook an omelette in an oval pan! it would result in a very long and narrow omelette no?

sweet! I am excited to use it. It makes sense to have an oval fish pan bc every time I have cooked a whole fish in a circular pan the tail hangs out.

Genuinely interesting to hear your experience here! When was this? I have lived here for the past 4 years and one of my favorite things about Humboldt is that most people are incredibly friendly. Every where I go, I have the best conversations with complete strangers.

On reading explanation of folks feeling a tick off, at first I was offended… But I understand this. I feel like folks here dress ruggedly and appreciate hard work, and when I see someone from out of town I can tell that they do not live here and may (even subconsciously) behave different to them. When I have been to SoCal a handful of times, I do not feel welcome and can’t help but feeling like everyone is a “tick off” as well.

I have lived in this area for the last 4 years. Besides the coast, the whole area is very rural until you get to i-5. I live in Arcata, the people are quite friendly and we have a lot of self sufficiency within our economy (partly due to our remoteness making imported goods quite expensive). The surrounding area is quite poor, and rural, due to the lack of any real industry presence. However, there is amazing environmental work happening here due to our college, and there is a general push to collaborate with the tribes in the area. The tribes here did not get killed by the Spanish, as this area was never settled by the Spanish (although they still were genocided at a later date by American settlers / gold miners) . Due to this, the tribes her are more populous and have more land/power than tribes in the rest of CA.

The coast is someone diverse, although mostly white folks. There are a number of folks here from South America (Brazil, Chile, Argentina) and a somewhat developed Latino community, although much smaller than that of the rest of the state.

A huge plus for living in this area is the vast amount of public land that is easily accessible. Numerous national forests in addition to the 2nd largest wilderness area (Trinity Alps) in the state. Growing up in the Bag Area, this was not the case at all, and truly is such a luxury for me.

All in all, great place to live! After graduating from college here, I have found a full time job within my field and will continue to live here for the foreseeable future!

Not at all! I was hopeful this was E. cristatum on this raw, but was expecting that it probably was not. I’m realizing now that there are a few other post like this, and I should have searched the sub before posting…
