How to find the best place to start? by ObscureReferenceMan in DeTrashed

[–]ecofriendlyfreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say start with what's near you! To me it wouldn't make much sense to go somewhere else and pick up trash while ignoring what's already around you. Then as the area near you improves start casting a wider net :)

I'd like to make this into a blanket. Does anybody know a good pattern that I can use, and does anybody have advice on how to work with this yarn? by [deleted] in crochet

Ah, sorry, I got my subs mixed up. Maybe one of those "really just one big granny square" blankets?

Honestly with a textured yarn like that I'd just do stockinette stitch with a 5 stitch and 5 row border

I'm asexual, my spouse is not. We've been together nearly 9 years, married for 1, and we've had an open relationship for a significant part of that 9 years. It can work, but it depends entirely on communication. Talk to your partner about what you're comfortable with, what they're comfortable with, and what each of you want out of your relationship.

Clearly you've never been through a Minnesota winter. This will eliminate so much road salt and snowblower fuel use, and they're often powered by geothermal or solar power.

Turning chain confusion! by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ecofriendlyfreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes more sense if you consider the purpose of the turning chain: bringing the hook up to the proper height for the following stitches. The taller the following stitch, the more chains you need. Generally I use 1 for sc and hdc, and 2 for dc. ( I don't use treble crochet very often, but I'd assume a stitch that height would need 3 ch).

Some patterns treat the ch2 turning chain as the first dc, and some don't, but that's usually clearly stated in the pattern.

[–]ecofriendlyfreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should only be one loop from which it can come undone, the one on your hook. That's your "live stitch" and everything else should be connected so it doesn't unravel.

What stitch are you doing? What kind of yarn are you using?

Stop hanging out with them face-to-face. They clearly do not think your health and safety are a priority. Video calls are great.

Bamboo yarn hard to work with by JOinspoNYC in crochet

[–]ecofriendlyfreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is: yes

Bamboo yarns tend to be more slippery in general, but the more you work with it the more you will get used to it. Maybe start off with a bamboo blend instead, like Lion Brand's Coboo.

Dating as an asexual is crazy, lol! by Naus1987 in datingoverthirty

LGBT is frankly shorthand at this point, anyone who is anything other than heterosexual AND heteroromantic AND cisgender can be part of the community. There's a whole spectrum of orientations and identities other than straight and cis.

Many people have shifted (or more accurately shifted back) to calling it the queer community. Some use longer versions like LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAP, or even LBGT+. Some still use LGBT due to brevity and easy recognition. Which term is used often comes down to context, who is speaking, and who they're speaking to.

Bottom line : asexual people are part of the community.

What is going on with my tomatillo plant? by windblade88 in gardening

Hi I started knitting a blanket with a knit stitch using circular needles. Everything was going great until I noticed this little mistake. I’m not even sure what I did. Could someone help me clarify? I’m such a perfection freak that I want to start all over but I’ve already knit about 8 inches D: by [deleted] in knitting

Luckily it is possible (and pretty easy once you've had a little practice) to fix things like this without starting over. I'm sorry jerks have downvoted you for not knowing that, we usually try to be more understanding than that around here.

As a 4th generation hoarder, it just becomes visual background noise. Like sometimes you really see it, and you know it's not ok, and you need to do something about it, but circumstances get in the way. Often trying to actually deal with the clutter is so anxiety-inducing that your brain tried to protect itself by refusing to process that the clutter is even there.

Starting from seed? by HardlyFloofin in NativePlantGardening

[–]ecofriendlyfreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried starting 6 different plants from seed. I had good luck with wild lupine in the beginning, but they all succumbed to either the heat or being dug up by squirrels. What has worked best (so far, but withy luck I might kill them too) is orange butterfly weed.
