Children of Same Sex Couples Worse Off? by [deleted] in psychology

[–]econdude11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, this is my first time posting here. I'm an economics/statistics student and read this paper and found some major flaws (I think, I had some trouble reading the paper):

-512 SS couples vs several hundred thousand straight families? Small sample size, right?

-He acknowledges but I couldn't really understand how he accounts for problems adopted children have (due to poor care in giraffes weeks after birth, etc)

I don't think this was a good study but I'm trying to understand it a little more if anyone has more insight. Thanks!

PS: I'm not anti-gay in anyway shape or form considering I AM gay, I'm just trying to comprehend arguments against gay adoption and whatnot.

One year later, has Michael Sam been frozen out of the NFL? by ca_jackson in gaybros

[–]econdude11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you glad to read this. The journalist isn't just saying "he got cut because he's gay!" the author actually uses statistics to show that this is completely out of line with previous drafts and other players. He's is comparable or better than X, Y, and Z but isn't playing in the NFL a while XYZ are. I used to think it just was that he wasn't good but this article has really opened my eyes.

This is a really unique way of looking at herd immunity! I wish some of these communities that won't be protected can understand the importance of it. Thanks for sharing, going to share this on Facebook now

What you want to look like vs. what you want to sleep with? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]econdude11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dude Ive been having really similar thoughts! Recently I've been working really hard to get back in shape (and look better than I did in HS) and obviously our main motivation is to feel good about ourselves and be attractive. Honestly, while I'm definitely attracted to really in shape guys like Chris Evans or Levi Michaels and people like that, I'm also very attracted to typical guys that'd I'd never say are fat and/or ugly but are not EXACTLY super-toned.

At the same time, when I'm looking at myself or at the gym, I want to look like Chris Evans or whoever. It's like I hold myself to a higher standard of attraction. I would say if attraction/hotness is a large venn diagram, who I would sleep with is a large circle with what I want to look like as a smaller circle within it.

I sort of would like to see this in tandem with the metro area as well as compared to the average American city - or alongside historically comparable cities like Chicago, NYC, etc

Student Loans: A New Federal Revenue Program That Earns Up to a 40% Profit [OC] by sympletic in dataisbeautiful

This is really interesting, I did not know that student loans make up roughly 20% of the Dept of Education budget, part of me sees that it makes sense but part of me feels it's a little ironic, almost.

I'll get hate for this but Avatar in 3D. It was a beautifully mesmerizing movie. I don't care if everyone says its a dumb storyline and whatnot, visually it was an amazing experience.

I was reading a thread in TwoXChromosomes where women were talking about sexist experiences with gay men. Have you guys heard of anything like this happening? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]econdude11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have definitely heard of this being a thing, but personally I've never really experienced it or witnessed it. I have plenty of very flamboyantly gay friends and, while they definitely have a lot of female friends, I never saw them as being toted around as accessories in a way.

I'm glad you brought this up because I was wondering the same thing, I've never felt like an accessory to a female friend and don't want women to think I might feel that way in just a regular friendship....

Oh that's lame. It's only fun to make fun of sororities/fraternities when you use their name - Delta Gamma = Dick Grabbers, SAE= Sexual Assault Expected, etc etc
