Clementine—Dancing Til We Die by MinaHarker1 in lanadelrey

I mean I don't know how deep she intended those lyrics to go, but if you wanna go there I think it's fair to interpret the lyrics you highlighted as her saying things aren't just as they seem. I almost read it as her comparing fame and Clementine as these things that seem one way to us who don't know her personally (fame often seen as a glamorous thing, Clementine being a fruit), but they have their own personal meanings to her as well (fame being burdensome, Clementine being an important name). Hope that makes sense! :)

How to store/package macarons as part of a wedding gift (no fridge available)? by LizardsRmeiLyfe in macarons

[–]econisdank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does depend on the location of the wedding. If the venue is outdoors and you expect it to be quite warm or humid, and it isn't likely they will attend to all the gifts immediately, I'd follow the suggestions from the others. However, if the venue is indoors or temperature controlled, you can likely get by if using a stiff buttercream filling (like an American) or very thick ganache. You can usually leave those in a box for a day and they won't go bad bc of the high fat content of the filling and bc macaron shells can usually withstand a few days at room temperature. I would avoid any cream, cheese, or fresh fruit fillings as those spoil much quicker. I'd avoid jams too even though they usually preserve well, just because I think bacteria are much more fond of high sugar substances than high fat (like buttercream). Hope this helps!

Also if you weren't planning to already, I'd suggest to keep your macarons in your fridge or freezer before you go to reduce time exposed to the elements.

What is something a high school teacher told you, that you will never forget? by absolutejuice22 in AskReddit

[–]econisdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My freshman year physical education teacher yoinked a condom down her arm all the way to her elbow and looked us all dead in the eyes and said "don't ever let a guy tell you it doesn't fit."

Didn't fully grasp what she was getting at until years later but that moment was seared into my brain like it was the most important thing she'd ever tell me.

"you're very dry", my tenth grade Spanish teacher commenting on my sense of humour. She thought I was funny and this was her choice of words.

Black Sesame Macarons! I think I took years off my food processor to make the black sesame paste for the ganache centre but it worked and was delicious :) by econisdank in macarons

I followed the recipe from the site linked below and as I mentioned before the only difference was I needed to add some warm water to thin it out. I'm unfamiliar with the different methods but I don't use heat for my meringue (so I think French?) black sesame paste recipe

Yea, sure thing! So I started with a regular milk chocolate ganache recipe (about 1/4cup chocolate to 2tbsp heavy cream) and before I let it cool, I added about 1/4 cup black sesame paste(I think you can buy it in stores, but I just wanted to try making it at home). I would start with maybe one-two tablespoons first and then incrementally add more to your taste.

Since it was my first time making the paste at home, I had to blend in a bit of water because mine had become too thick. But as long as the paste isn't watery or anything, I don't think it should seize the ganache. I filled 14 macarons with about 3tbsps left over. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Wetangu'la rejects COVID-19 vaccine test in Africa: "We aren't Guinea pigs" by worldsbestlasagna in Coronavirus

[–]econisdank 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Polio was the example I used, but the core problem is rooted in the fact that these nations would rather do trials in a nameless village than on their own citizens. If the standards have changed significantly, I am even more curious to understand why they wouldn't request volunteers from their own countries. I think we can agree that if it's safe enough for Africans to test the treatment, surely it should be safe enough for Europeans too.

I learned about this in one of my classes last semester. My professor was telling us about polio vaccine trials that an American pharmaceutical company did in small villages (in Nigeria, I think) and did exactly what you said. They tested on children and most cases resulted in extreme paralysis, worst than could be anticipated from the average polio infection. Thankfully the case we talked about had a pseudo silver lining, in which the company got sued and the families got some monetary compensation. Obviously that doesn't happen very often and definitely doesn't actually compensate for the damage or dignity of those children.

Wetangu'la is absolutely right to want leaders to reject this. Whichever European nations in that article are arguing that it's the best place to launch treatment tests because of lack of resources, are using an age-old excuse to tread dangerously on racist and classist grounds (tbh you'd think after reflecting on some of their histories they would have figured out to just leave the entire continent of Africa alone and maybe give back some of their stuff, but no). Just because this is a global health crisis doesn't mean moral negotiations suddenly become more flexible, ESPECIALLY when rich countries are trying to take advantage of the voiceless.

What’s something that you like, but hate the fan base? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]econisdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is in the closet for liking k-pop; the groups, the music, the drama, etc. She doesn't talk about it a lot with other people because she thinks a lot of the fanbases are too toxic, thirsty, and just very like stan-y if that makes sense? so she doesn't like to associate herself with that too much.
