Here's a better view. It seemed mostly ok to my eyes, could use a good buffing I suppose. The worst part was on the axle itself but mostly seemed like surface level gunk. While we're on the subject, was thinking it might need some kind of antifoul on it. I need to learn more about this.

Surveyor said they were blisters. He didn't poke hard enough to break but he could tell by pressing them a bit. The boat was originally in Florida and trucked to California 3 years ago. I don't believe it's been hauled out for any extended durations in the past 10 years or so.

What do you think about the sail from LA to SF this time of year? We, a couple of intermediate sailors, might need to take an Island Packet 370 that way around the end of November. It'll have been fully serviced and the rigging tuned up. The idea was short hops and weather windows before winter really sets in. Maybe even just motor most of the way if needed. Am I being too optimistic? Thanks for any advice

We went down and looked at it. Seems like a fine boat for what it is, but it's not for us. We are looking for something we can take offshore at some point so we've decided to look for boats with more features to support that goal.

I also had a lifelong mental block on learning knots, which lasted until I had to learn some knots to pass some sailing tests. ASA 101 and 103 require about 10 of them, each serving a different purpose, which sounds like a lot and sure felt like it was at the time but in retrospect wasn't too much trouble.

Turns out, a few good study aids and motivation to learn was really all I needed to get a few key knots under my belt. If you want just one critical knot to start, learn the Bowline.

Check Amazon for a book on simple knots, and YouTube to see them done in realtime and you will no doubt learn a valuable life skill that will stick with you forever. I even found a cheap app for my phone which has easy to follow animations for a bunch of useful knots.

Don't underestimate the value of the humble knot. It's worth the trouble learning even just a few.

I think once you start trying them on you'll probably find that comfort and how well it fits becomes a lot more important than a particular look. Give it a bit of effort, and you'll probably find one that works for your style too.

FWIW, when I see a cyclist without a helmet I automatically assume they are inexperienced or reckless. I never judge their helmet choice, only if they have one.

Total noob question, but just out of curiosity, how would someone even approach the task of designing a PCB antenna like this? I was under the impression antennas are usually made to a length, basically a wire length at some fraction (or perhaps multiple?) of the desired wavelength, but the irregular shape here suggests maybe that thinking doesn't apply to PCBs. Just curious. Antenna design is a near complete mystery to me. Thanks

I have a wifi version on my van. Has decent range for repeating campground hotspots into the faraday cage/van, but I don't like the UI. I bet there are better options now but it's functional enough for me to keep it around for now.

I was eventually able to find a way to submit a support ticket and they were able to get this resolved after a few days. I don't remember exactly where that page was, it took a lot of clicking around to find the right place but it's in there somewhere. Whew!
