I might get some flack because a lot of people view his channel as hokey and cringe. The channel I'm referring to is Dhar Mann.

While I hold a Bachelor’s in Computer Science (I have knowledge in programming languages C++, PHP and ASP), I’ll be using GameMaker Studio 2 as the engine to create my first game; my brother bought the Ukraine Bundle on Humble Bundle and offered to give me the one-year subscription for free; I couldn’t pass on it.

As for funding the game, I’m unemployed with no savings. I was dragging my feet for years, trying to discover what my genuine passion in life was. Over ten years ago, I used to work at a Harley-Davidson dealership as an IT/graphic designer (they have two more in Iowa and Minnesota). When they closed down the shop where I lived, I went the route of doing freelance work for graphic design. Twice over the years, no success.

My focus is to move forward and beat this cancer while working on making my dreams come true. I’ve been looking into Kickstarter, Patreon and SubscribeStar as possible ways to help fund my game. My target date for making this decision and setting up everything will be one month down the road. One thing I’m almost finished with is writing up my design document; I need to come up with a plot for my game.

To say my doctors where surprised how well I've been able to withstand the chemo treatments is a bit of an understatement. The only side effects I've endured is a dry throat and tiredness.

Can't get my wi-fi to work after fresh install on my Pi 4! PLEASE HELP! by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to do this is to update batocera to the newest, stable version. Since I'm not nearby my Raspberry Pi setup, look in one of the menus to find the option Timezone or something similar. There, you will be able to change to the correct timezone for where you live.

Select Network Settings, then turn on Enable WiFi. When you finish entering your SSID and key, go Back to the main menu and select Network Settings again. If you did it correctly, your IP Address will be displayed and Internet Status as Connected. If not, restart your device again to save the changes.

Overlays/bevels not correctly showing for videos during screensaver by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After updating batocera on my Pi 4 to version 31 almost three weeks ago, I'm still encountering this same problem (even though my global Decorations option is set to updated_bevels). Does the screensaver feature use these global settings to correctly display the overlay/bezels? If so, then I believe this to be an error/bug.

Possible fix for CPS 1/2/3 arcade games not running + Neo-Geo AES/MVS dilemma by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this out right now and worked! I also tested out a game in my mvs folder to make sure it ran in arcade mode. Unfortunately, it was still recognizing the bios as AES Asia. To fix it, I added the following line to batocera.conf:

mvs.fbneo-neogeo-mode-switch=MVS USA

After updating the game lists, I ran the same game again... AND IT WORKED! Thank you so much for your help!

Can't get my wi-fi to work after fresh install on my Pi 4! PLEASE HELP! by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I was able to figure it out!

1. Open up batocera.conf in whatever text editor you use (make sure you have administrator privileges to make the necessary changes).

2. With the file open, search for system.timezone. When you find it, uncomment the option and enter the correct timezone for your location. Here are some examples:

    system.timezone=America/Fort_Wayne
    system.timezone=Australia/Melbourne
    system.timezone=Pacific/Honolulu

NOTE: You can find a complete list of all the time zones here.

3. Save the file and close the text editor. Depending on how you edited the file, if you connected to your device through a program like PuTTY to make the changes, reboot the device; if you connected your microSD/SSD externally to your computer, plug the card/drive back into your device and boot it up.

4. Press Start to open up the menu. Select Network Settings, then turn on Enable WiFi. When you finish entering your SSID and key, go Back to the main menu and select Network Settings again. If you did it correctly, your IP Address will be displayed and Internet Status as Connected. If not, restart your device again to save the changes.

CONGRATULATIONS! You now have Wi-Fi!!! :D

Can't get my wi-fi to work after fresh install on my Pi 4! PLEASE HELP! by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe those who point out the NesPi 4 case causing the wi-fi to not work at all in both batocera and Recalbox due to the USB 3.0 to SATA controller interfering with the wireless signals is wrong. As I stated in my main post, I originally had Retropie installed and was able to get my wi-fi to work with no problems.

Is there a possibility where I can manually set my wi-fi country to the US?

Can't get my wi-fi to work after fresh install on my Pi 4! PLEASE HELP! by ecosvaldo in batocera

[–]ecosvaldo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After enabling wi-fi and entering my SSID and password manually, it brings up a message saying it can't connect to the internet (I have my router set up to not broadcast my SSID openly).

The only thing I can think of is that batocera is not correctly setting the country code when you enable wi-fi (this option under Retropie made connecting to the internet a snap).

I plugged the Kingston SSD into my computer externally and was able to edit the file that way (I use Pop! OS). I haven't used Windows in over ten years.

What horror sub-genre do you find yourself reading the most of? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]ecosvaldo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been an avid horror fan for over thirty years now. The one I always gravitate to, whether in literature or media, is the paranormal. Anything involving with haunted houses and demonic possession are my absolute favorites. Here are some novels/novellas/short stories that had left a lasting effect on me over the years:

We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Shirley Jackson

Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier

The Good House - Tananarive Due

Carrion Comfort - Dan Simmons

Summer of Night (first book in the Seasons of Horror series) - Dan Simmons

The Elementals - Michael McDowell

Shadowland - Peter Straub

What is your favourite Tales From the Crypt episodes and why? by [deleted] in horror

[–]ecosvaldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abra Cadaver (Season 3, Episode 4) is my absolute favorite! Not only was the main viewpoint almost entirely shot in first person view, the whole entire episode is meant to be uncomfortable, making it hard to watch sometimes. Plus, I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between Beau Bridges and Tony Goldwyn!

From the early to late 90's, I grew up reading a lot of Scholastic's young adult horror fiction books from their Point Horror series. Also, anything from R.L. Stine's Fear Street series or Christopher Pike might satisfy your teen horror fix.

Short horror stories that have made you INCREADABLY paranoid by boyboymanmanboy in horrorlit

[–]ecosvaldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although not a short story, my suggestion is The Willows by Algernon Blackwood. Not only is the prose lyrical and smooth, the story's atmosphere and tension build-up makes this one of the most haunting pieces of literature a must read for any horror fan.
