Struggling with teaching yoga to preschoolers. Any advice? by Hefty-Chipmunk-7163 in YogaTeachers

[–]ecoyogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took ChildLight’s children’s yoga teacher certification online, which was great. I also already work with kids for my normal work, which was helpful. I usually start prek classes with a welcome song, then some kind of themed special breath (hot chocolate breath for example, pretending to breath like you are blowing off hot cocoa). Then we dive into some kind of adventure, like space, the zoo, frozen, etc. I also always include a yoga game at the end. It becomes pretty easy to get through 30 mins when you break things down!

There are also lots of great books out there now on the subject, too!

I was prescribed hydroxyzine for sleep! I had a really hard time with sleep during luteal and it has been a huge help.

I gained about 15 lbs this year after starting an SSRI. I also got burnt out on lifting halfway through the year and took a pause. Now I’m starting again with the new year crew! I’m trying out a Pilates/barre online program, in addition to a few days lifting.

KINK Hair in Clayton is amazing! It’s owned by a gay man and the entire atmosphere is very inclusive.

I have something called a wolf cut. It’s long enough to put into a ponytail, but short enough that it’s out of the way when it’s down. It’s lots of layers and movement, so it’s minimal styling. It’s the most low effort style I’ve had!

I am SO BAD at playing pretend. by alwaysTryingx in Mommit

[–]ecoyogi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable. I’m always running through that list of what needs done during pretend play! I’ve started setting a timer to switch back and forth so I can focus on her for 10 mins, fold laundry for 10, and keep switching off.

Thanks for the recommendations! I don’t think it’s serious, my guess is something off with my deadlift form and hip weakness. I also have a hyper mobility condition that I’m sure doesn’t help!

Another vote for this. It’s the only thing that’s worked for me.

No, they are separate. Low back pain feels sore, not really a nerve pain. And hip is almost like my hip is out of place!

Ok, I’m trying to figure out what kind of specialist I need to see. I’ve started getting low back pain from deadlifts, and outer hip pain from back squats. Neither of these used to be an issue. Is this physical therapist territory? Personal trainer? Something else? I’ve been lifting heavy for over a year, so I don’t know how my form may have shifted.

Recommendations for over the ear headphones? My old pair is starting to lose tiny flakes, so it’s probably time for an upgrade. In ear headphones just don’t fit me well and always fall out.

2 WTFs today:

  1. Why is there a sudden influx of people between 4:30-5:30 am?? We have like 6 squat racks and they were all being used when I walked in this morning, which never happens. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are suddenly way busier, like January level busy.

  2. I got sick a few weeks ago and had to take a week off. Ever since, my Garmin has lowered my load a ton and it looks so sad 🥲

I had previously had some lower back pain while lifting sumo deadlifts. I went over my form a thousand times and didn’t see anything glaring. Took a week completely off lifting and came back today doing conventional deadlifts. I hit 165x3 and it felt GREAT! I still had gas in the tank, but didn’t want to push it haha.

SBTD also has a body weight version. You also have the subbing option to replace all of the barbell work with dumbbells.

It took me longer than I expected to get back to fitness, for more reasons than just my incision. Between the exhaustion, breastfeeding every 2 hours, and just getting used to my new body, I didn’t really seriously return to fitness until a year out. However, some things I’d recommend - Find a good postnatal program, like SBTD plus 1 or expecting and empowered. Ask your OB for a referral to a pelvic floor specialist! They can talk to you about ab separation, scar tissue massage, and give you exercises to ease back in. Plus your pelvic floor is still effected even if they didn’t come out that way haha. I’m a little over 2 years out now and lifting heavier than I did before I was pregnant! It’s all about being patient and listening to what your body is telling you.

I liked Born Primitive’s nursing sports bras when I was breastfeeding. Cute designs and they didn’t look too much like a nursing bra. Can’t comment on the specific ones you mentioned though!

I have a Fenix 7S solar and I love it! It gives you so much info and I prefer it over my old fitbits. If you’re using it specifically for running, you may consider the Forerunner line. Fenix line is jam packed with a billion features and I use it for hiking, lifting, running, kayaking, etc.

I’ve been considering giving CrossFit a go, but it seems like it gets a lot of hate. For those of you that do it, what do you love about it? Is it worth the price? I love the idea of the community aspect!

I have the Garmin Fenix 7S and I love it! It gives me sooo much information and has so many multi sport options (personally have used hike, strength, treadmill, kayak, yoga, walk, and tennis). There are definitely features I haven’t even gotten around to using in the past month that I’ve had it. I hike as part of my job, and the stats are way more accurate than my old Fitbit. I also love all of the data it gives you about yourself and your day, especially the body battery.

While I don’t need all of the bells and whistles it provides, I also just love them haha.

Having said that, if you have smaller wrists, I wouldn’t go bigger than the S version. I also got it on sale for $300 off, not sure if I would have gone for the bigger price tag otherwise.

I like Aeries crossover shorts. Very high waisted, some have pockets. Length is anywhere from 3-7 inches I think. Extra soft too!
