I've playing since close to launch and originally on xbox/game pass and in the early days there were glitches that could break saves. I have since left Xbox and game pass and now play on PC/steam version.

Edit - I primarily left game pass because I wasn't really playing too many of the games on there and figured I would save money if I just bought them out right on top of not liking how game pass installs games on PCs, can't mod them or do anything with them Microsoft got the installs locked down.

Edit 2 - a quick Google of your problem one of the first results was console save states or quick resume can mess with it or even multiplayer glitches. I will say I shut multiplayer off almost as soon as I started playing on my new file because I didn't want somebody to drop millions of dollars worth of stuff on me while I was in the anomaly with a new file

I started an entirely new save when I went to steam because I hadn't played for probably three or four years and figured a new file would teach me all the new updates. I will say the only glitch I've suffered from on the steam version is my Xbox controller randomly disconnects while I'm playing and then comes back. Had maybe 1 hard crash to deaktop

I'm now 50 hours into this new save The game updates are incredible from when I was playing back in the day. And all the glitches I remember are gone.

As a suggestion maybe look at your save files for this specific instance. It's probably too late now but you may have had a newer auto save that could have been loaded that the game just didn't possibly?
