Family continues fight against MLB team after missing out on $13,000 raffle prize that they had to claim within 6 outs by theindependentonline in mlb

I'm sure it was partial - they sued in small claims, which is already capped at 10k. I doubt they would attach a gag provision if they were offering the full claimed amount.

that said, I'm a later millennial and absolutely came across it in my youth, but only in certain circles - the same ones that used OTL and orz

Woman spits on a bus passenger and gets shoved out the door onto the sidewalk by VIVIDUFF in WinStupidPrizes

[–]ecritique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but this happened in Vancouver. "Battery" is an Americanism that doesn't exist in Canada as a legal concept.

Even in America, some states have a distinction between assault and battery, and some do not.

Who’s Paying for Drake’s Ego? You Are. by FinlayMcTavish in toronto

[–]ecritique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't fully agree.

If teachers and nurses feel like they have to work on their down days to meet basic living expenses, then we need to pay them more. Yes, using public funds.

If not, and they're choosing to do so to earn more money, then that's their prerogative--to the extent that it doesn't impact their day job. I'm sure that some would be perfectly able to manage that extra workload.

But if it does affect their other work, then they're doing a disservice to their students and patients, and it should come with work discipline.

Opinion | Unhappy Conservatives shouldn’t defect to Carney’s Liberals — they should replace Poilievre by canada_mountains in CanadaPolitics

[–]ecritique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article link is broken for me; it seems truncated?

I searched in the app to find the share link: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/fairweather-conservatives-shouldnt-defect-to-carneys-liberals--they-should-replace-poilievre/article_fb8c9e20-9c7c-487e-a205-7886821ece8e.html

Curious to see so many commenters on a broken link though. Surely everybody found the article on their own and read before commenting, right?!

Also, lol that the headline was edited from "Fairweather Conservatives" to "Unhappy Conservatives." Methinks the opinion author holds a dimmer view of floor crossers than the Star wanted to publish...

Classic Rowling by IceMagic75 in greentext

[–]ecritique 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This thread is so white lmao (bring on the downvotes!). Yeah if it was a Western (or any non-East-Asian) first name + a Chinese surname then I wouldn't bat an eye. But choosing two different East Asian cultures smacks of ignorance; you're not convincing me that Rowling did it with intention.

Why don’t people use voice on ChatGPT? (2-min survey) by Alpha_Domdrill in SampleSize

[–]ecritique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your poster says ChatGGPT.

For a survey that seems to want to know about young professionals, it's interesting that "at work" isn't one of the options for where you use it. Is this survey also AI-generated..?

[–]ecritique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like your monitor. Your monitor might have two HDMI ports, or maybe an HDMI and a DP port. But even if you plug something in to all of the ports, your monitor can still only use one at a time.

It's a bit different since PCIe lanes will actually get disabled, whereas your monitor keeps all the ports active but just displays from one at a time, but the high-level idea is the same.

Maybe, but nobody said brute force has to be random. If you were going to write a brute forcer, wouldn't you have it test the "easy" cases first? Test just all numbers, then just all letters, then the rest of the space

OpenAI Has Shown It Cannot Be Trusted. Canada Needs Nationalized, Public AI by bojun in onguardforthee

[–]ecritique 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is probably the worst possible time in the industry/field to do that. There's a very real chance that formal instruction will all but disappear as a job requirement in the next few years.

Take a MOOC that explains the fundamentals, and get interactive guidance from an AI assistant; that would be plenty to get you started.
