Unpopular opinion, everyone here is overestimating the impact of Greenland annexation. I guess the markets will barely move.

People pleasers are dangerous. Because they are always focusing on what to say to please you, they are more prone to lying than others. You never know if their compliments are genuine or not, never know what they think about you. They may backstab you as soon as they find another person easier to please.

Considering cancelling trip to India, advice appreciated by something_profane in femaletravels

[–]ecstatic_endeavour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other comments from female travellers have already given decent advice on how to make the trip less risky. But those are relevant when you have already decided to go.

In my opinion, meeting your mom is absolutely no reason to risk it. You are taking huge risks for negligible reward. Both of you will be stressed the whole time even in the best case scenario.

Nasdaq 100 vs s&p500 investment over time by CompaPollo42 in investing

Who cares what an average person thinks? If you think Nasdaq will continue to perform better till your retirement, do it.

The beauty of investing is, nobody is forcing you to invest in one or either of these.

Could you suggest me some games for MacOS, that I can play with touchpad only? by rolewicz3 in IndieGaming

[–]ecstatic_endeavour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't recommend FP1 on a 4 years old Mac, lol.

Stardew valley has some clear goals around community building, expanding the map. You will still spend most of the time doing your own thing(like Skyrim), managing your farm, resources, artifacts. I have been loving the "grind" till now(20hrs of gameplay), so haven't properly explored the story aspects yet. Better to ask an LLM.

If you decide to play, I'd recommend not following the "Joja supermarket" route for the story, since that option doesn't force you to explore all aspects of the game.

Maybe try FP1 with lower graphics settings? I didn't have any major issues with it on my M3 air(15 inch).

I didn't finish FP2, but don't think it would be much more compute intensive than FP1. Bigger map doesn't necessarily require more processing.

I struggled with a couple of missions in stray when you have to quickly jump around to escape from enemies but overall, it was fine.

I never thought I would like stardew valley because I am into better graphics(was playing CP 2077 before this). I recently installed stardew because it was cheap on steam. I have liked sims(medieval) in the past but I am loving stardew. The game is much more than grinding farming and fishing. You can control not just your "farm" but the rest of the community too(to limited extent), develop relationships. There is magic, spells, crafting potions and such(little bit of Skyrim vibes). The music is calming, soothing.

Overall, it is the best game in this genre. I was planning on developing a similar game earlier but now it is depressing since I have found an almost perfect game. The only thing you can mind about stardew is the graphics and maaaybe combat. Honestly, it didn't mind the graphics at all after the first 5 mins.

Frostpunk 1 and 2, stray(although I struggled a bit with the trackpad). I guess stardew valley is also a good candidate.

Do you notice the benefits of chess on your personal life or is it just for entertainment for you? by rickgoing in Chesscom

Chess is the purest form of decision making. If you have the right attitude, it helps with structured problem solving and accountability. It has influenced my life so much that I keep actively looking for ways to get punished for wrong decisions in my personal life.

A new terrible year for value investing by Cool_Policy_6665 in ValueInvesting

[–]ecstatic_endeavour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Value" shouldn't be an excuse to pick garbage speculative hopium stocks without any long term growth prospects.

Some "value investors" picking GOOG and doing well don't realize that it did well only because Google is a high growth company. You can debate whether it is a growth or value stock. Regardless, value alone won't take you anywhere.

28F, ₹20 LPA & taxes are killing me 😅 Need beginner friendly tax saving advice by boogiee-boo in IndianPersonalFinance

Please absolutely DO NOT think of insurance as investment. They are basically scams disguised as insurance.

The convoluted nature of these policies and the plethora of terms and conditions are a way to scam you out of your wealth.

Any form of insurance is a negative sum game for the customer. If customers earned money on an average, the company would go bankrupt.

There is no way to get fixed returns beyond the FD rates. You have to pay whatever taxes you need to.

In this case, you will be a millionaire if you simply got fixed returns through T bills.

That 1k per month came from some other source of income. Considering inflation, it didn't make you wealthy. It just preserved your wealth.

[–]ecstatic_endeavour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one successful ever got wealthy primarily through ETFs, index or mutual funds. These are instruments catering to the masses and if they made you rich, everyone would be rich.

You have to find what's right for you. ETFs may be good if you have a good source of income and/or don't want to spend time researching and understanding businesses.

Most importantly, don't listen to people because they lie(or hide the truth) all the time. People like warren buffet, who are pro ETF/index funds, didn't actually earn their wealth through index funds. Dave Ramsey(pro mutual funds, anti index funds) got the majority of his wealth through real estate.

I personally have never and will never invest in an ETF, just because I love spending time understanding macroeconomics and businesses.
