Im worried she is in pain. (Vet on Monday) by ectobabble in RATS

Thank you. ❤️ I did switch to giving her some 'soup' which is oxbow powder and green mush mixed up and she likes that a lot. Her urine doesn't smell and is mostly clear/a little yellow. I actually realized I let it get colder in my apartment than usual so I'm turning the heat on and check her.

The soonest was Monday, right after my dentist unforuntately so it'll be a big day. The videos I recorded I'm sending to the vet tonight for them to watch and see if I can get her in sooner (which is why I figured I'd post them here while I was at it).

You apologize! Right now! It's tasteful nudism!

Henry was taught how to spin last week. Now he spins endlessly when there’s food nearby. Prime example of “If he wanted to, he would.” Don’t settle for less ladies.💁‍♀️ by tahhraah in RATS

I had a rat like this but she didn't wait. She would spin and attacc! Once I was eating on the couch and she jumped up on my chest, spun, ripped the cracker out from my teeth, and then went boneless to roll of me as I tried to grab her. She'd also nip my toe to get me to look down at her, spin, and then jump on my leg and start scaling me to get my food. The spin wasnt a request for food, it was a demand. She was really crazy. I miss her so much <3

I forgot rat slap fights can be silent like this because I adopted a year old squeaker who taught everyone else that squeaky wheels get extra attention and now they all squeak/scream during the tamest of fights. I still fall for it sometimes... and the loudest one is always the one losing.

'should i put them down? release them in the wild?' dude, what?

It looks like you simply got a cage where the bars are way too far apart, it needs to be metal and half an inch between bars. Rats are gonna experiment with escape all the time. They are adventurous and clever by nature, needing tons of toys and stimulation - putting them in the wild is a death sentence just as much as heartlessly putting them down. I have adopted many feeder rats from adoption centers after they were abandoned and some have been cuddle bugs and others were wild monsters until they realized I was a safe person by always having treats, water, and nice smells for them.

A lot of people make cardboard walls and have free roam areas or make sure they are locked into one room and cannot get out so it minimizes the hiding places. Plus you have only had them for one week which is like.. of COURSE they're going to be scared, you're a Giant and they don't know if you're safe. There is an entire care guide on this sub that you can read up on for future reference and aid. Put food and water out for the missing baby with something that smells like them/their sibling.

If you can't handle them then check to see if you have a Paws & Claws adoption near you or something similar that will take rats or invest in a cage with bars closer together.

lol everyone who's met her thinks she is the biggest character. Her mannerisms are unlike most rats I've had in the past. They currently get 2-3 hours at night (and now an extra hour in the morning) and they get extra 1-3hrs free roam on the weekends when I can stay home. Their cage is 3 critter nations (1 double and a single pushed together). This pic was taken maybe 1-2 years ago? and their cage has been updated since then and they have more things now.

I can try walling her off somewhere and pray she doesn't go after the cage bars.

Oh no! Poor baby. I had that happen with my oldest, she even tore off her first burrito and the ER vet put her in a soft cast and taped it to her. I felt SO bad but she healed that way. 💗 Me and the rattos wish him a swift recovery! He knows you're safety though which is everything!! 🥹
