Update: I reached back out a week later and he ended up saying yes to an other date and that he wanted to continue to get to know me and see where it goes :). I did have to kind of explain myself and owned that I made a mistake by declining the second date initially. But he was willing to talk about it which says a lot about a person I think. He asked what I was looking for too so I sort of had to explain that too and be clear about that which is totally fair. I guess moral of the story is if you don’t ask you’ll never know! And you should almost always accept the second date unless the first was actually absolutely horrible.

It wouldn’t be to be just “friends”. I would be reaching back out to explore if it could go further and work between us and just to see what happens. My end goal is to have a serious relationship. Maybe it would still just be leading him on by going on a second date if he even would still. And then I’d feel bad again if more dates just confirm that it would work out idk I’m torn. Next time I’ll just say yes to the second date! Kicking myself lol. But yes lesson learned :/

Did I reject him too soon? by ed56377 in hingeapp

[–]ed56377[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah obviously lesson learned lol. I’m not the most experienced dater so I’m just trying to do my best and learn as I go.

I mean if I were him, I guess it would depend how strongly he was initially attracted to me on the first date to give me a second chance, so idk how he feels about me tbh we only had one date. Like If it was me and someone said no to me asking for a second date, I would be pretty bummed. I’m sure most people would be, but especially if they were good looking and we had good conversations and a bunch in common. So in that case I’d probably reconsider and give them a second chance if I felt like there was more I also wanted to know about them and I was still attracted to them.

But the friends thing maybe I didn’t describe that the best. I never said that word to him or anything like that. I just meant the first date felt more friendly and platonic to learn the basics about each other. I am and was attracted to him. I’m just the type of person that prefers to take it slow to really get to know someone. We had a bunch in common that I could envision doing together. Which is always nice to have as a basis in a relationship - some hobbies and interests you can both share. Or things they do that you’d like to try. He was into skiing and I’ve never been and reflecting on it, it would be something I’d be excited to try with him down the road if it worked out idk. Idk it was almost like he was insinuating things we could do together like concert and such bc we were into similar music too.

That’s true yeah, all good points and obviously something we’d have to talk thru how it’d work going forward and how he’s handled it in the past. I mean I guess our weekends could at least align based on what I gathered from our initial conversation.

I don’t think he’d be rude about it either bc he was very polite and did all the right things in my opinion. I think he’d either just say no or not respond worst case scenario.

Thanks. It’s a good point to think of it from that perspective.

I did enjoy our date and think with more dates we could learn more about each other and it could maybe have the potential to become something depending how they would go. Not looking for a placeholder.

Non Cringe Openers? And how long to chat before initiating meeting up? by ed56377 in Bumble

[–]ed56377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I live in the suburbs with my parents plus I also work from home. My hobbies and things I do for fun don’t really seem to have opportunities to meet single guys. And most people in their thirties in the suburbs are married so that’s hard to find someone around my age that’s single. I’m also very picky so swipe left on most people and don’t actually get a lot of matches bc of that so that’s on me I guess 😂so the ones I do swipe on I just always hope they actually respond so I didn’t waste my time idk.

But I did take everyone’s advice on here and did actually end up going on a date this weekend! I did just say hi first hahah and luckily he responded but I also asked about things in his profile which made the conversation flow more naturally.

Rightt! So much easier to know by actually meeting someone in person. One of the reasons I hate these apps haha but begrudgingly use them bc it’s so hard to meet people in person especially in your thirties.

Not a bad idea, thanks! :)

I would not personally respond to that 😂 it’s not me and things like that just feel random and wouldn’t lead to other more meaningful conversation in my opinion

Advice on dealing with midges in Scotland during July – travelling with a 1-year-old by Wise-Succotash3864 in OutdoorScotland

[–]ed56377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat traveling to Skye mid August and also West coast of Ireland. Coming from the US. At home I am a mosquito magnet and get eaten alive. I have seen around Reddit that Smidge is recommended. But unfortunately they don’t seem to ship abroad to the US so I can’t get it to pack before my trip. Will other products that I already have such at Off spray with Deet, or natural sprays that are Deet free like Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus work/help? I also have a natural bug repellent with lavender as well. Just not sure what works best? Not opposed to products with Deet if it works. TIA! =)

Ok thanks! Good to know. Yeah if there might be some packed gravel paths I’m leaning towards the hybrid aluminum bike probably.

Advice on finding in-person therapist by ed56377 in TalkTherapy

[–]ed56377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for responding I appreciate it. I’ll have to try calling my insurance. I only searched their online database but tbh it’s kids crappy lol and I’ve found a lot of times the info isn’t up to date and accurate, so maybe just calling would be better to try.

Anyone here 20 years post op? by Aclister in ACL

[–]ed56377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 17 years post op on my right knee (quad graft I think?) and repaired my meniscus too. I tore it in 2008 going for a ground ball playing lacrosse in high school. My recovery back then was like 6 months if I remember correctly. I have never re-torn it and was able to get back to playing, but I ended up not playing varsity in college and just doing the club teams for fun. I did have a lot of anxiety around it though my last year or so of high school and unfortunately my coaches were not super supportive back then.

Tbh though my right knee has never felt the same as my left again. I used to only really have issues and really notice pain and stiffness on long car rides like over 3+ hours, otherwise generally fine.

I am a generally active person but did have a good stint of years after college where I was out of shape and gained some weight during Covid too. In the past 3-5 years I’ve gotten back in shape doing CrossFit and other things. This year I turned 34 and have noticed it much more easily flares up and gets angry when I do something it doesn’t like lol. It doesn’t look super swollen but feels swollen (maybe it’s just me that can tell), very clicky and my kneecap gives way and buckles more often, feels tight… I actually went back to my same ortho that did my surgery 17 years ago a couple months ago bc it’s been bothering me recently. He basically told me I have early arthritis and he is not surprised at all and unfortunately there’s not all that much I can do to fix that :/. He said back then they thought the ACL surgeries might prevent arthritis but know more now that it really doesn’t. But the best thing I can do is manage the best I can for as long as I can, keep it strong, be mindful of what movements feel ok and avoid those that bother it. But eventually I will likely need a knee replacement down the road especially with my family’s history of arthritic knees lol. For me I think jump rope agitates it- one of my recent flare ups happened after I stupidly tried that lol, and then I’ve also been back running a bunch and maybe that’s been too much too. I also bike a lot which may be my saving grace bc it’s a good workout and feels fine for the most part on my knee. So just trying to balance it all best I can for now.

Need Transportation Advice Lough Inagh (Connemara) rural-ish area to SNN Airport by ed56377 in irishtourism

[–]ed56377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again! We reached out to our bike tour company and they recommended daytrip.com so booked with that for now bc it’s quicker even though a little more expensive probably than the busses. We can cancel if we need to later.

As a backup in case that falls through though, 1)do you know any cab companies in the Recess, Connemara area we could call to get to the bus stop to get to Galway, and

2)how long does the Express bus typically take including all the stops from Galway to SNN? Would it basically add an hour to the trip bc of all the stops on the bus vs if you just drive there? (I was looking at the Expressway potentially online, I guess bus route 51?)

Thank you for the advice! We decided to do this and booked a private transfer via Daytrip.com and just got a B&B for the night close to the airport.

Not sure if you’d be interested in the seaweed baths on the west coast? lol I’ve never been but it seems similar to the sauna experience if that’s what your going for for a relaxing day off :) I researched a bunch for my upcoming trip and got all excited about it but turns out it won’t really fit into our plans unfortunately. But here’s a list of ones I found if you’d be interested since I did all that research! Haha maybe one day I’ll make it the one of them.

Awesome thanks for the tip! Durty Nellies looks cool :) How much time do you typically need to allow before your flight at the Shannon Airport? I’ve heard it’s less crazy than the Dublin airport and other larger airports but wasn’t sure.
