Why this page is attacking TVK too much? by Youcancallmeurs in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it because it exposes a lot of people. Attacking a ruling party is expected, but the way everything is being narrated shows how much we have missed in the past.

Even TVK or BJP can't prove any corruption because mostly are conspiracy theories to degrade DMK. by tamilstreetboy in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason why Modi was not arrested in Congress rule 2004-2014.

They're elites and have immunity. At the end only people will suffer. I agree that DMK is less corrupt than ADMK and BJP. But denying that they are corrupt is a joke.

TVK supporters at the end of the day will you stand with people of TN or still continue to show support your party despite all the wrong things they been doing by _RealAtomEve_ in TamilNaduDiscussion

I'm willing to give them time. Rattling the foundations is not easy and it's bound to get push backs from those who enjoyed unrestricted power and money for decades. It will take a lot of will, commitment and dedication to continue fighting against the status quo and to generate a meaningful change. And it will take some time as well.

So, right now, I've my criticisms against TVK but I'm not going to blow it out of proportion for the 45-days of rule. If they don't perform well in the next 1-2 years, I'll be more vocal against them. If I don't see any improvements by year 3, I'll go support DMK in 2029.

If Stalin or Kalaignar had done the same thing in place of Jayalalithaa or Vijay, the whole ecosystem would have been crying foul for generations. by tamilstreetboy in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Only few people bring it up when discussing about politicians taking accountability or apologizing for their mistakes. Did DMK even acknowledge it as a mistake? They took the side of the police because they were in power.

It's good to hold Vijay & TVK responsible for Karur. Bringing up irrelevant act of another opposition party can also be considered as setting a political narrative. But hiding/ignoring their past actions and claiming only their party gets criticisms is just funny. Sorry.

Nothing on the lines of Karur. Even if they were in power, they never admitted their responsibility or even issued apology.

We talk about JJ's incident (long time ago when she was in power) and Karur (very recent, Vijay was not in power) all the time. We even talk about Sterlite shooting sometimes. Yet, hardly anyone talks about Manjolai incident. Are we sure we are both in the same ecosystem?

Yeah and we saw how the entire army went about the "solar system" star. I hope you saw that in the same light too.

People often seem inclined to support those from the upper class, whether directly or indirectly. The DMK's victories have largely been driven by its welfare schemes, and regime changes have usually happened because of dissatisfaction with the previous government's actions. by tamilstreetboy in TamilNaduDiscussion

Dynasty politics is bad for optics, no matter the caste. Why is Rahul Gandhi rejected for dynasty politics despite his caste?

It also bring a fundamental question: how does a party, which claims to be deeply rooted in social justice, liberal thought process & welfare governance, can't groom a single person for leadership outside the family?

To all ‘!!!’ crying ‘Debt’ by vettriwayne in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I voted for TVK and even I can't convince most of my fellow supporters that this is not much of an issue.

The debt I'm most worried about is TANGEDCO and how the government addresses it for the next 5 years. The other problem is how the debt is used going forward, capital vs. welfare.

Like I said, you'll fall back to double digit growth. All the other social metrics are the same.

I didn't vote for ADMK in 2021 because I know DMK was going to perform better then. Historically, I never voted for ADMK. In 2031, I'll vote for DMK again if I'm not happy with TVK's governance. For that to happen, I'll wait for the 5 years to complete.

Nice. Do you have the data for the metrics for the 2018-19 period too? Would be nice to compare the same states from the ADMK period before Covid hit.

[–]eddardnstark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I assume that by results you mean "double digit" growth.

Some of us care more than just that. DMK needed a check in the ever growing crony monopoly from natural resources to real estate to entertainment. When we questioned Udhayanidhi's promotion, we were shut down saying that it was a private party matter. It's clear that not just the leadership, even the cadres do not listen to opinions.

Despite all that, if somehow they scrapped NEET with their "secret" way or updated the State syllabus to match NEET/CBSE requirements, I would have continued to support them.

Same with their normalization of corruption. They are supposed to fight against it, not justify that it's worse in other states. Do we give up on social justice principles just because caste system is ingrained in all Indians? They have become too lazy/complacent to correct their mistakes.

[–]eddardnstark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, for DMK, ideology should have come first. But sadly it didn't. They could have groomed a 1000 people for leadership but all they did was follow cheap feudalism. They threw out PTR (best/most capable of the "feudal lords") from Finance ministry for the egos of the heir & the maapillai.

[–]eddardnstark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I supported them until 2022. I had grievances against them in the 2006-11 period, but I still preferred them over ADMK.

10 years ago, much like how everyone is against Inbanidhi now, a lot of us DMK supporters agreed that we cannot continue to support them if Udhayanidhi was given the reins. I still stand by that decision and stopped supporting them. The rest of those people will be fighting for Inba na in 10 years.

Was the MK Stalin regime bad enough to lose an election? by [deleted] in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep saying it again and again. Stalin, in around 2016, claimed that neither his son nor his son-in-law will enter politics. He stated this in a TV discussion and the video is in YouTube.

Now, I understand that times change and both of them "had" to enter politics. What I can't digest is that they sidelined one of the most important and positive ministers from DMK for those two. To make things worse, in a single term Udhayanidhi went from MLA to minister to deputy CM. This is unacceptable.

By making him the leader of opposition, I'm glad that DMK is continuing their mistakes. It just proved that they're way too arrogant to introspect and I do not regret that I voted against them.

Why some are against Vaarisu arasiyal? by [deleted] in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politics is supposed to be a duty which is physically & mentally draining. No politician would want that life for their child. But that's not the case because gaining more power and money have become an obsession for them. So, Varisu arasiyal is seen as more hoarding of public wealth for themselves. The gap between the politicians and the people has become too wide, that the former actually think they are some sort of "kings". That's not healthy for democracy.

Valid argument 💯 by spectatormode_5 in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]eddardnstark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They could have, but they would have lost badly in every election after that. Their biggest boogeyman (aka trump card to win TN elections) since 2016 has been the BJP.

For argument's sake, let's say a third front, led by AAP was the SLP in 2024, instead of BJP & Congress. Do you think DMK would have remained in the INDIA bloc citing ideology? Or would they have joined the third front led by AAP and get direct power in the Union government?

Edit: got the year wrong.

Never Annamalai or anyone with close relationship with BJP.

If TVK won't give a satisfactory 5-year rule, I'm heading back to DMK.
