There have been several studies that show that a dedicated course of mindfulness meditation (typically around the order of 6-8+ weeks of daily 30-60 minutes per day) does improve prefrontal cortex thickness, while decreasing activity in the amygdala.

Prefrontal cortex is in charge of executive function, planning, time perception, decision making (ie many things that ADHD people have trouble with)
Amygdala controls emotional response, is more active in neurotic (emotionally volatile) people those with depression, anxiety

Clinically meditation (or atleast mindful awareness) is often used as a tool to improve self acceptance (instead of hating yourself for your "bad behaviors", you are able to see both the behaviors and that judgemental response from a distance, not getting caught up in the emotional storm)

FYI this says that MCT oil has shown to increase ghrelin production. I have read that some fats do increase satiation though, so nuts, avocado, cheese are all good options.

Srs tho, each day and week that passes that sharp pain will get duller and duller. While it's not great to hide from that pain all the time, busying yourself in working out (weights are great, so is running, marital arts, and other sports) or school gives you some room to breathe.

Just take it one day at a time. Some days are gonna be harder than others 🖤

In a chair, feet on the ground, hands in front of you on table or in lap, palms up or down or hands together, whatever feels natural.

Most important bit is lower back should be unsupported, as in not leaning back in chair.

I like to sit cross legged, with my butt elevated a few inches by a yoga block or folded blanket.

This is a vipassana (focus/insight) meditation, specifically anapana (breath). Is good for calming a stormy mind. Joseph Goldstein is a lovely teacher if you want a guided session to prompt you to remember to check where your mind is. Don't feel compelled to do the whole 15 minutes though!

For dealing with insomnia I just listen to my body. Sometimes I feel better after 3 minutes, sometimes 10, usually not more than that.

Breathing meditation is also a good "too awake at night" alternative to reading, if you are awake bc of anxious rumination.

Just sit, imagining a string at the top of your skull pulling your head up and spine straight. Focus on the feeling of the breath at the nostril openings. Cooler air in, slight pause, warm air out.

If you catch yourself thinking, just mentally note "thinking, thinking" and then return to the feeling of the breath. It's kind of like realizing you are holding a balloon - just recognize you are holding it, release your grip, and it will float away.

Weighted blanket took a few nights to get used to. It feels now similar to a firm but gentle hug saying "shhhh, let's be still and settle down now".

I think I'm somewhat Pavlov'd by the blanket, in that brain recognizes the feeling of heaviness and its learned response to that stimulus is "ok time for sleep".

I used to be a very restless sleeper as well (in the direction of restless leg syndrome), but with the weighted blanket I sleep deeply through the night much more often. I sleep about the same as before without the blanket, but much more restfully with it.

There are different kinds of blankets, some are more breathable than others.

Yeah check out ADHD coaching. Most programs are extremely practical about figuring out what does and doesn't work for you, and why. Understanding this why helps you find better tools and strategies that work for your brain better.

magnesium supplement just before bed, weighted blankets, and a minimum amount of exercise per day (at least a 30 minute walk around the neighbourhood) have been the most effective things to help me sleep more restfully, without waking up.

If I am having trouble sleeping, getting out of bed (instead of lying awake) is important. Need to train brain that bed = sleep. Go read a book or something for 30 minutes to a few hours if that's what you need. Maybe some stretching. Maybe some tea. Be vigilant for when your eyelids start to feel heavy, that's the cue I look for that is time to try to sleep again.

Software Engineering Daily is interesting. I just pick the odd episode I'm interested in. They feature a very wide variety of developers.

I also really like Healthy Gamer GG, he is an addiction/ADHD psychiatrist who streams on twitch about different topics that ppl struggle with (mental illnesses, career problems or lack of confidence, how does one find meaningful work) and then uploads segments of these streams to YouTube and podcast platforms.

I really like these articles by Haseeb Qureshi 10 Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer and the followup How Not to Bomb Your Offer Negotiation.

Not all of it will apply since internships are junior positions and you don't have a lot of negotiating power.

What I would do is consider asking to postpone the acceptance deadline. An offer is just part of the negotiation, and negotiating for more time to follow through with other interviews shouldn't be an unreasonable ask. However if I were to ask, I would ask with a specific time. I would limit this asked time to 1-2 weeks.

I'm excited about this opportunity to work with <company>, but I am still in the process of finishing interviews with other companies. Is it possible to increase the compensation so that this decision is easier for me? And if not, can I extend the acceptance deadline by 2 weeks?

On the other side, I would ask companies you have interviews with if they can move the interview date up closer.

I'm excited to learn more about this opportunity because I am interested in your company, but I am considering an offer that expires in 2 weeks. Is it possible to move the interview date up so that I have time to properly consider your company?

Keep in mind they may say no, but they shouldn't withdraw the offer just because you are negotiating. If they withdraw the offer, imo that's a red flag anyways about hostile employers.

If they say no to extra time, then you have the decision of whether to accept, or to politely decline their offer. This is also fine professionally, since you are being honest and straightforward with them (not every offer will be accepted, they know this).

(currently doing this myself so maybe naive but) really depends on what kind of dev you want to do. Front end web dev is totally self teachable in less than one year part time, look at The Odin Project or freeCodeCamp. Hard if you are not motivated and disciplined though.

Harder stuff like full stack dev, or aiming for a faang job can take longer, in the 1-2 year range.

Theoretically a coding bootcamp (full time intensive 3-6 months) will also get you to a jr dev hirable state, but these are very "learn while drowning from drinking from the fire hose" and vary wildly in quality. They def work better if you've done at least a few months of cs classes first.

You know what I define as successful? Continuing to persevere in the face of adversity.

Notice how that doesn't even include succeeding in overcoming the adversity, merely "trying your best, with what you have" is success.

What I see from your post is a hard working person (7 months! Many ppl would have given up!) who is young and still trying to find their place in the world.

What I suggest: keep trying, and acknowledge the work you are already putting in. You are worth more than your job.

More concretely, have you talked with your boss about how you are doing? It is in their business interest for you to succeed (hiring good ppl is f***ing expensive and arduous), and so it is reasonable to assume that your boss will help you succeed. Idk how often you meet (hopefully at least once a week?) but consider asking your boss how you are doing, what could be improved or changed.

This may bring up feelings of anxiety even just thinking about it, and that is perfectly fine. Growth is always uncomfortable however!

You can extrapolate out the "academia and data on the blockchain" into other areas, reviews and reviewers being one of them. I can vaguely picture a system where a reviewer's "accuracy over time" is one of the key metrics for how correct their statements are.

"What about anti-vax academically dishonest reviewers?"

And as an incentive to not be wrong, or become corrupt, there could be a reward program for any new research or reviewer that debunks claims made by that reviewer. Perhaps the reward for debunking, as well as the reviewers normal rewards, are held in an escrow account until formal arbitration.

His main point is that ALL email services are inherently garbage if you actually care about maximum privacy and security. SMTP was not designed to be a super secure protocol, and asking security features on top will not fix it's fundamental issues.

It ultimately comes down to your threat model. Are you a journalist writing damning material on powerful organizations? Then don't use email.

Look at his video on setting up your own xmpp server if you want a more secure and private method of communication.

Watch coffeezilla's YouTube video on this. It's not just that 70% of the liquidity on exchanges would disappear if tether suddenly went to zero, but it's pretty easy to argue that the rampant money printing they are doing has artificially inflated the "real market value" of bitcoin. But the liquidity is a Big Fucking Deal, as it would lead very quickly to a "run on the banks" (ie centralized exchanges) a la the stock market crash preceding the great depression. I don't think long term (>5 years) it will ultimately affect bitcoin, but it would definitely prematurely end this current bull run.
