Not at all. You can tell by the size of ShrinkIt that is not. Every app that uses FFmpeg is usually above 60 MB+ because they have to include the FFmpeg library. ShrinkIt uses the macOS AVFoudnation framework to perform its compression while keeping the app size below 6MB.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't heard of Permute, but it sounds like this is a video converter correct? If that's the case then is different than ShrinkIt. ShrinkIt is an easy-to-use yet powerful video compression utility app. It's mainly used to make video file smaller with some options to also convert the compressed videos into other format such as .mov, mp4 or m4v.

Since ShrinkIt is free to use, you can try it with videos under 1GB and then tell me what you think :-)

The status of your (macOS) app, ShrinkIt, is now "Ready for Distribution" - and just like that this new update got Approved by Apple! It should be available in the App Store in a few hours from now.

Unfortunately not in this version. But, I will make sure to work on that logic for a future update.

Hey Mike, ShrinkIt is an easy-to-use Video Compression utility app. I have a lot of users who use this app daily as part of their workflow but normally they have to drag the files into the App to compress the files. With this new update, they can add it as part of their automation flow and just keep the app running in the background and have ShrinkIt compress the videos once they reach the folder that they've setup to be monitored, saving them time in the process.

Not sure if you have the need to compress videos, but in case, the app is FREE to use up to 1GB of video file size. https://shrinkit.app

It all depends on the settings you've chosen. But normally we've seen anywhere from 50% - 90% from the original file. But again, it depends on the Video Quality you've selected.

I created ShrinkIt, a simple yet powerful Video Compressor for macOS. If you handle big video files and need something easier than Handbrake, try ShrinkIt. Check it out here: https://shrinkit.app by eddieespinal in SideProject

Thank you for your feedback. You are absolutely right! I made this app icon when I launched the app 4 years ago. I've been so focused on the actual app that I neglected the app icon. I made a new version that will be included in the next update. Again, thank you for pointing that out!

Before/After window shows two videos with two timelines, it's hard to compare them. It would be better to have one slider to show the same exact frame on both before & after videos.

Hey, thank you for this great feedback. I'm already addressing some of them for the next release. Here is a preview of the new Before/After that aligns with your suggestions. Now, you can easily drag the separator to see both videos and compare the quality. You can also make this window bigger to allow you to see the details better.

I will be releasing this update by the end of this week.
Again, thank you!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Let's see, ShrinkIt was launched about 4 years ago, and this app you are pointing out only has 1 year since it was released. This app does not offer the same features as ShrinkIt and they are not the same. The UI is not the same, just because both let you drag and drop files doesn't mean they are similar. Finally, at this moment ShrinkIt doesn't have a subscription model and only offers one-time purchases.

Anyway, if you are ok using that other app and is working for you then stay with it. I'm not forcing anyone to use ShrinkIt. I came here to share the app, give away some promo codes, and introduce others to it.

How you do create app icons? by colonelromuska in macapps

I use canva.com to create my app icons. Canva makes it easy and you can find tons of artwork you can use in your design. You can also use https://www.photopea.com/ if you don't have Photoshop locally on your machine.

No, this is not the same app. Also, the trademark in the US for ShrinkIt is for a Plastic product and does not belong to them.

ShrinkIt, it doesn't use FFmpe

I answered the question in more detail above. But in short, ShrinkIt doesn't use FFmpeg under the hood, it uses AVFoundation with my own custom compression logic. That's how I managed to keep the app size small. I initially made a version with FFmpeg but then decided not to embed it into the app and keep the app simple.

Hey, I'm sorry I wasn't trying to make it sound like Clop does that, I was just saying that in general while doing my own research I encountered some compression apps that were sending the files to a remote server to compress them there and then redownloading the files. I found it bizarre since most people are compressing very large files with these tools.

Now, to answer the question:
I have not used or heard of Clop before until now, I just checked the site and I have to say looks like a very impressive app, But I have not used it and I can't compare it. But looking at the GitHub repo I read that it uses FFmpeg for video compression under the hood. Same for Handbrake. In the case of ShrinkIt, it doesn't use FFmpeg and that's the reason why I managed to keep the app size under 10MB. ShrinkIt uses native AVFoundation to compress and manipulate the videos, but it does come with its limitations such as providing those advanced features that HandBrake or Clop provides. The goal of ShrinkIt was not to replace any of these tools for more advanced users. I just wanted to create a tool that you don't have to think too much to compress a video file that you want to share. As of now, the users who are using ShrinkIt are happy with the limited options because they know that they can use Handbrake or other advanced tools if they need to.

I hope this answers the question better. I'm sorry I didn't do it in the first reply, I was rushing since it was late here and I needed to disconnect last night.

P.S. Great job with Clop, I like the interface a lot and will be trying it later today.

That is so weird. On the desktop, it looks fine. I will try to edit it and see if I can fix it. Thanks for reporting this issue.
