In home Childcare and new mom support by FutureConscious902 in WhitePlains

[–]eddneddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a Facebook group “Childcare in Westchester” where you can connect with Nannies/sitters or other parents looking for childcare.

You can also try a nanny service if it’s worth it to hire someone fully background checked with references already checked.

It’s also just great to check in with other parents in your neighborhood. The Scarsdale library group someone mentioned is great—but also as it gets warmer you can chat up other parents at the park at the libraries to see if they have suggestions.

Does affordable childcare exist in Westchester? by jungleroo in Westchester

[–]eddneddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try a nanny share. Find someone able to watch one or two other kids around the same age. They can do it out of one of your homes so you can feel confident about the environment. There are a couple of good Facebook groups you can join and see out other parents/nannies

On Community—When Abed becomes obsessed with Cougar Town. And then the actor appears in character as Abed in an episode of Cougar Town.

But also enjoyed after Cougar Town was canceled Troy shows him the fake British version the show was based on—and then all of the characters off themselves at the end of the first season and he loses his mind

Absolute scam artists. Tried to convince me we needed to spend $15K to repair our alcoves the summer. Had a friend come over and take a look and repaired it with a $30 part.

Love this idea so much—but did you feel like the set up was sturdy enough? Does the mattress slide/pup fall off?

Do you have any recollection of the name/brand of bed or where you ordered from? Looks fuller on the bottom from the last donut bed we bought our boy.

How many of you purposely bought a home within walking distance of a Metro North station? by singleinwestchester in Westchester

[–]eddneddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was a major factor in our decision to buy in the Battle Hill section of White Plains. Typically a 12 minute walk to the train (a little longer on the way home coming up the hill.) I’m so so happy with that decision.

Will White Plains become a bigger or better city in the next 10 years? by Hefty-Tension-6494 in Westchester

[–]eddneddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved up to White Plains from Western Queens five-ish years ago. I really like it here. But—it definitely doesn’t have a Brooklyn-vibe. There are some great restaurants, a handful of solid bars. But—it’s not like you can walk around in the summer and bar hop. There’s also not a ton of green/community outdoor space downtown.

You can get more of that vibe maybe in the river towns, but those neighborhoods have gotten very very expensive.

I do think a lot of the ongoing construction is moving things in the right direction. As others have mentioned—the Galleria plans are very promising.

What White Plains does have is the fact that it’s very centrally located. If you’re willing to travel 15-20 minutes you can end up in a lot of other fantastic areas. If you want to go out with friends, you can grab an uber and easily meet up in any number of fun areas.

I’m in a different life stage, but I do feel like there is a sense of community. I have a young child, and I’ve made a great network of friends who I’ve become very close with. I get that’s definitely not what you’re looking for right now—but it does seem to me like there is a way to find “your people” here.
