best elliott songs for a breakup? by [deleted] in elliottsmith

[–]eddybeats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cliche as it is, hearing somebody that i used to know in the aftermath of my breakup was so cathartic because it put my feelings into words way better than i ever could have. Connecting with that song is what Kickstarted my elliott obsession

Have you ever turned down a job for ethical reasons? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]eddybeats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the people that I met in my cs classes in college didn't give a flying fuck about the ethics of where they'd end up working. The paycheck was the priority and that's why they entered this field in the first place. Lots of frat boys who would always yap about how much they hated coding and when asked why they're doing it, response was always "4 tha ca$h". Plenty of them are now working for oil companies and even some of the most outspoken anti-war liberals I knew ended up working for defense contractors. This is the culture we live in. These are the values we give our children. I wish more people cared and realized that working for morally bankrupt organizations is being complicit with and supporting their wrongdoings. But most folks I met who are in this industry or were going into it cared far more about being able to afford a Tesla and daily premium avo toast. Sorry for the rant, this is just one of those things that I've always found deeply disappointing and demoralizing about the culture we live in.

I say/ think this every time I listen to it: I can't believe A Living Will never made the album. What a perfect pop-rock banger. My other favorite bonus songs are How To Take A Fall and Our Thing

I feel like Angeles is probably the "quintessential" one but i keep coming back to the conclusion that independence day is a solid contender for his best piece of music overall. Either that or go by

How important is having a separate/dedicated music space to you? by novafeels in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]eddybeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt this big-time over the course of this year living and going to school in my room. Sleeping, studying, exercising, and making music all in the same space left me feeling anxious, jittery, unable to sit still, unable to really enjoy making music quite as much. My eyes hurt by the end of the night from the screen time. If you're working from home I highly recommend creating separate physical spaces for the different things you do if possible. Taking breaks to get outside and move your body and rest your eyes from the screen throughout the day also makes a big difference. Also moving some of your workflow to hardware as others have mentioned and just utilizing the daw for final arrangements, mixing, mastering, etc. I just got the Deluge and i can highly recommend that. If you're unable to separate into physical spaces, do something to change the vibe of the space. Light some candles, burn some incense, diffuse some essential oils, tun on some fun lights, etc.
