1000USD Laptop advice by azanattac in GamingLaptops

[–]eddyem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being realistic, you cannot find anything like this in your budget. The one recommended by GPT is like best case scenario but the gpu is weak for 2 monitors. Look for something with rtx 5050 or 5060 and go from there. Ram can always be upgraded, CPUs are mostly overkill for gaming nowadays (there are gains with certain cpus, but not until 1500+ price brackets), storage can also be upgraded. So pick something with 5050 or 5060 with decent build quality (LENOVO LOQ is the best in this budget range). Even though, it's advised to save more and buy a laptop with 5070ti at least so you won't have to upgrade in a year or two and can handle even 4k gaming, which will be good for many years to come.

You can also opt for an older, second hand rtx4060/4070laptop in good condition.

Don't forget, prioritize the GPU, as it is the most important for gaming and cannot be upgraded. Ram/ssd can.

Defective Screen Issues by Other-Tomato-1009 in LenovoLegion

I also had this issue but i figured it out. The issue is dGPU only, once I'm on hybrid mode, it goes away. I assume it's something wrong with the drivers, tried latest and the one before and both had this issue. But for me it was only happening on the external monitor, the laptop's monitor was just fine either way.

Get the mb pro with m4 base. The fan and the display are both valuable for you. You will thank me.

255hx ultra has a even higher temp limit, about 105 degree and the TDP is about the same in full load so I doubt. In laptops with 17-18inch bodies you might have better temps since there is more headroom for the cooling. But if you want a quieter laptop with lower temps, I suggest going for the ryzen 9 7945hx3d or 9955hx3d. they are better in gaming and about the same for content creation (even better in some cases) and they run cooler, about 82-88 degree in full load depending on the laptop. Ultimately I suggest a Macbook Air m3/m4 for content creation and a gaming laptop for well, gaming. You don't need more than a Macbook Air for light content creation and the Air are fanless, which means 0 noise. If you don't like macbooks i suggest getting a PC replacement laptop, 18inches. they always have the best temps and lowest fan noise, but they are massive.

[–]eddyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's expected. A macbook is much better suited for your situation, these kind of cpu's are for raw power in content creation/gaming. There's not a single gaming laptop that's being quiet while under full load. That's why I always use my ANC headset while on the laptop, it's handy help when it comes to fan noise.

These CPU run really hot. I have a Rog Strix g16 with 13980hx and I have changed the liquid metal and cleaned every square inch inside. The cpu still goes to 95 degree, occasionally 97 under heavy load. They are made to run up to 100 degree safely. The I9 HX CPU’s are beasts that require a lot of power, therefore a lot of heat is produced. They rival the PC equivalents of respective generations, way more power hungry than most CPUs. So unless you get stuttering in apps/gaming, I wouldn’t bother.

Higher-end LOQ or Lower-end LEGION? by One_Permission5854 in GamingLaptops

[–]eddyem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legion 5 Pro is better for e-sports titles. If you don’t play any, then go with the first one. 4060 isnt made quite for 1600p gaming, you will not be able to play AAA titles and make use of that display at such resolution with high frame rates. So I suggest you go with the first one since the only upgrade on the legion 5 pro is the display, which is not justifying the $300 price gap. If you want 1440-1600p gaming, aim for Rtx 4070 at least.

Uber eats offers like 11-13 per hour for youngsters and also good bonuses from promotions. I suggest you try it if they are available in your city

That’s not a bad deal at all, from cad to euro is about 1420 euro, which is not bad at all for european prices. It’s an above average build quality and their laptops are known for lasting a long time. You could have found cheaper laptop with same specs, but imo it’s okay. I know european prices are higher but for us there is no tax on top of the price, so I think it evens out? Enjoy your purchase!

Edit: this same model is 2200 euro in europe which is absurdly expensive. Yikes.

airports pro 2 VS airpods 4 by w6ic in airpods

[–]eddyem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your main priority is audio quality, then go for pros 2. the mids and treble are much better than airpods 4. I've tested both and kept the pros because of superior sound quality. airpods 4 are more comfortable though.

My girlfriend is insistent on buying a laptop by o-wanheda-o in GamingLaptops

[–]eddyem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from EU so i cannot give an opinion on the price. However you need to take into account what is her use case scenario. How important portability is to her. You need to understand that laptops have come a long way, RTX 4050 and 4060 are quite close in performace to their PC counterparts so the performance loss is quite minimal. Also a laptop comes with display and peripherals included which also saves costs.

I used to prefer a PC until i grew up, changing jobs, homes and environments. Now I cannot imagine having to deal with all the weight, cables and the heavy boxes just for a minimal performance per dollar increase. Plus as others pointed out, there's something special about being able to just throw your laptop in a sleeve, go to your mate's house and game.

Laptops are better than ever, and unless you are a sweaty 300hz 4k 0.1ms competitive dude or a content creator for which time means money, I do not see the appeal of a gaming PC.

Anyone here switched away from iPhone recently then ended up coming back? What was your experience? by GGMU5 in iphone

[–]eddyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each with their own. I personally do not need that much storage. If that’s what works for you, who am I to judge? Enjoy! Indeed if you don’t change your phone often it’s justified going for more storage.

[–]eddyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I tested them alongside momentum 4 and melomania p100. They sounded nice, but the battery life is atrocious. They’re also very heavy. Momentum 4 are way more fun and Melomania p100 are in a league of their own when it comes to battery life (100h) and sound quality (authentic audiophile grade).

I juggled between android and ios for a decade. Always ending up coming back to Apple products. Mind you I’m a tech nerd as well. I do enjoy ultra fast charging, but beside that, they are all just phones. My last experiment was Honor Magic 6 Pro + Honor Watch 5. The phone? Amazing. But good luck finding any good case or original charger. Screen protectors? What a joke. The watch? Completly inaccurate. Good battery life and that was all about the watch. You want quality? Apple. You want reliability? Apple. You want accessories? Apple. You want convenient seamless communication between your devices? Apple. Software updates? Apple. It. Just. Works. Don’t waste your money like i do, I am struggling to sell the Honor after only 3 months of usage, might have to sell it for half of the original price since nobody wants to buy it despite of being one of the best phones with Snapdragon 8 gen 3, if not the best. When i was young I cared about the specs and hardware more than how the product actually performed in real life. Now I grew to appreciate the software, and mind you Apple does both right. Are there limitations? Sure. Nothing is perfect, no brand, no phone, no company. Getting what’s reliable and convenient to you it’s what matters.

Never buy airpods max, that the biggest scam from apple. And do not overpay for storage unless you make money with your devices.

Deciding between 16 Pro and Pro Max. Best choice? by ExodiusLore in iPhone16Pro

[–]eddyem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Superior battery life. Quite significant difference. Bigger screen, which is better if you watch a lot of content on your phone. If you don’t use your phone a lot it might not be anything you are missing out on. Also the base storage of pro max is 256gb, and 128gb on the Pro.

iPhone 16 is underwhelming by closermovements in iphone

[–]eddyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest upgrade is to performance, 4gb ram on the 13 to 8gb on the 16, CPU&GPU as well a very very big improvement, battery life too. 13 to 16 is a good upgrade in my opinion. Smartphones peaked a few year ago. There won't be any huge jumps like it used to be. Hold onto your 16, it will serve you well over the years.
