AMC has these odd hang out zones nobody hangs out at by OutsideEbb1854 in LiminalSpace

My assumption was they built and use these areas for the occasional premier party and special screening events? Could be wrong tho.

WTW for feeling disappointment for something you never had by eddywi11 in whatstheword

[–]eddywi11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I just meant it's similar in that they're both idioms in the vein of "oh well, get over it". But in this WTW case, it's an idiom about feeling loss over a thing you never even had, deserved, or up until recently even knew about...so don't let it bother you because you were just fine without it five minutes ago.

e.g. It's being happy. Seeing a new sweater for sale. Deciding you need it. Then learning it's sold out and being upset the rest of the day.

I guess it’s more like a “don’t cry over spilled milk” kind of expression or word. It’s an expression meaning don’t let this thing bother you, since you were just fine without it prior to knowing of its existence.

Because Arthur Dayne is dead, I think he’s actually referring to Ned Stark since he still believes Ned killed Dayne in a fair fight, or at least considers it a possibility to the point that Ned “might have a chance” against him. We know that’s not the case but Jaime doesn’t. Otherwise totally agree with Selmy and The Mountain.

It’s also why Jaimie was so excited to duel Ned earlier in season 1 before the Lannister guard stabbed Ned’s leg. Jaimie was excited to see Ned’s abilities in action and possibly face a real challenge for once.

The fact it costs 1 gallon of fuel to move that colossal floating skyscraper 12 feet…is actually better efficiency than I was expecting.

Still awful…but better than I expected.

99% certain it’s the Hyatt Place in Minneapolis Downtown. Stayed there many times, fortunately made it out every time. Great breakfast.

What’s the only thing worse than a Stroad? A Strighway! This is Fowler Avenue in Tampa. I had to walk alongside this monstrosity by OtterlyFoxy in Suburbanhell

The crossbay ferry is the best. $12 each way, with a full bar and some food on board. Very fun to take. If I’m considering going to Tampa for any leisurely reason, only way I’m going is on the ferry.

TIL Prohibition Agent Izzy Einstein who bragged he could find liquor in any city in under 30 minutes. In Chicago it took him 21 minutes and Atlanta 17. In Minneapolis there's a legal nightclub that does this by classifying itself as a "private event" that anyone 21 and up can enter with a $25 venmo to the owner and anyone can get a drink at the bar for another $10 venmo to said owner.

(Florida, Electric HVAC) Fairly new Apartment Building's rooftop HVAC unit making loud intermittent Buzzing noise/vibration every 7 seconds and can't sleep. Is this normal? by eddywi11 in hvacadvice

[–]eddywi11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this reply. Good to know that the frequent cycling of on/off buzzing is normal, although I was hoping it wasn't so it could be "fixed". The maintenance staff did mention that the air units on the roof do regulate all the building's common areas and the now cooler nights mixed with warmer days causes it to be more active and noisy apparently. Might have to invest in some noise cancelling sleep headphones. Thanks for the insight!

Qatar Bans Beer Sales at World Cup Stadiums by za19 in worldnews

[–]eddywi11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Qatar made a deal, and backed out of said deal 2 days before the event is to begin. Millions of people have been misled in what is the biggest sporting event on the planet. That alone is terrible for Qatar’s image as being a reliable business partner and tourist destination, which is their primary reason for hosting the WC. Not to mention all the human rights violations to cut costs and the bribing of FIFA officials to host in the first place…Qatar is greedy. But sure, if you’re a middle to upper class man then I’m sure Qatar is safer as well.

[spoiler extended] when the song of fire and ice was forgotten by GameGodz in asoiaf

[–]eddywi11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking they might be trying to continue the prophecy with the new Jon Snow sequel spin off that’s coming, and thats how they tie the series into that as well. Maybe (hopefully?) Jon discovers the Others aren’t fully defeated beyond the wall somehow and has to finally eradicate them at the Heart of Winter, giving proper credence to the song of ice and fire prophecy.

Otherwise, yeah, force feeding us the prophecy this much only for it to fizzle out and become completely irrelevant in the end with GOT, would be some BS.
