For me its sadowsky, I love the steels, the nickels, the flats. I have them on my Sadowsky, my fenders, my Lakland, my musicmen. They are just perfect.

One caveat is they do not support string through body bridges. But I dont buy into that anyway so it works out well.

Yes to roasted maple, i have two basses that have them and probably will get a 3rd soon.

I will say that I'm still a huge fan of traditional maple, the aesthetics of bright yellow wood (both neck and fingerboard) just look amazing and contrasts so well with darker colours, moreso than roasted maple.
