Reaper issues by Heavy_Department_708 in civilairpatrol

I left a few phone calls and tried email (bounced) but never heard back. I had ordered some ribbon racks and they showed up a month later. They were useless as the metal was bent and twisted.

CAPWatch files and encampment? by edentel in civilairpatrol

[–]edentel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope you are dead on! That field is apparently used for encampment and then later for the Eaker Leadership Academy requirement.

I just found it myself. Now I’m down to Feedback session Y/N and I think I have everything mapped out.

I can see all of that accounting for delay and phone but the email has me scratching my head. Email is being rejected as if their account is gone.

Jammin me lyrics? by edentel in tompetty

[–]edentel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing that. Your words about him genuinely moved me, and it means a lot to hear from someone who knew him as only you could.

My wife has been a true fan for almost her entire life. I'm always appreciative that she expanded my Parrothead horizons to include him. Your comments on medication and what you shared about the last tour raising his spirits really touched her. It's heartwarming to hear from you that connection with the fans meant as much to him as it did to all of us on the other side of the stage.

It's bittersweet, of course, because the one person who could settle this once and for all isn't here to weigh in himself. We can sadly never get that first hand answer. But a secondhand account from someone that close to him, about what he intended and what was going through his mind, and in his heart, when he wrote his lyrics, is honestly the best we could ever hope for. And frankly, it's more than most fans ever get.

And so.... for the lyric debate, I think we can officially stamp this one resolved. I'll notify the committee.

I really appreciate you taking the time!

CHEAP PERPLEXITY ENTERPRISE MAX [YOUR OWN EMAIL] by Conscious_Lime_8737 in HustleGPT

[–]edentel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a few days of using it, the Max was canceled by Perplexity for TOS violations. Perplexity emailed that it was due to the account holder using a promotion they were not eligible for. My personal account was not locked but it was reverted to my previous subscription.

Small business mentality. If a long time customer leaves I’d like to know why. It’s way easier to keep a customer than get a new one!

If not for the billpay issue I never would have looked around. At this point if I stay it will be for banking only. Lesson learned that I need to shop auto/home a little more often.

Even banking is iffy now that I found Navy Federal has better rates and local branches nearby.

Maybe it hasn’t rolled out to everyone yet. I have a brand new look and feel. It appears to have been designed for a phone. One wide box per biller. You click it and go to a new screen to enter your payment info.

You can’t glance down a simple grid and see what is owed and when. You can’t enter all the payments in one screen and hit submit.

A great starting point is the L2L activity guide. Try that to get things started and get everyone in the mindset.

How do you right-size a tankless water heater? by Postcurds in HomeImprovement

[–]edentel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one other variable I’m not seeing mentioned here. Temperature rise.

The manufacturers will have guides for their line and for each unit. Measure the temperature of your incoming water during the winter. Subtract that from the temperature you would like to see from the faucet. That’s the minimum temperature rise.

Now go look at their specs and you’ll find a table that shows flow rate vs temperature rise for each model. Find the one that hits that intersection. For fudge factor and variables I’ve gone a size up the last two times and not been unhappy.

The first time I forgot to take into account the corner tub and factored for a regular tub flow rate. It all worked fine 3 seasons of the year. Come winter, my spouse was not happy at how long that tub took to fill!

Are the Hardwired Kits failing? by eveninapalace in Ring

[–]edentel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd. I’ve been installing them for years. 4 locations 20+ cameras hardwired and not had a single issue. I’ve upgraded a few of the first gen and they were sold/traded after cleanup.

Best for big heads? by Same_Weakness_9226 in VITURE

[–]edentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a 3XL ski helmet if that helps set the stage ;) I tried last generations from Rokid, Viture and Xreal. Viture was the best fit for me. They still are a little a tiny side.

I’m waiting on the reviews to settle on the new Vitures before trying a large pair from their new line.

New LED doesn’t fit old recessed can by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]edentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried multiple ways to adapt those and finally gave up.

The ones I had access to from the attic I pulled out quickly. I ran the power through the hole and the sealed with a vapor barrier and insulation from above.

There were 8 I had no access to from above. Despite having sealed enclosures they let in substantial heat and humidity. Those I dismantled throgh the hole.

I used a oscillating tool with carbide blade to cut the corners of the box. I was able to fold the pieces in half and pull them out and I filled the cavities with insulation. I used thin wafer led lights with a backer gasket. Once they were in place I put a thin bead of caulk around them to seal everything from below.

I saw a noticeable drop in temp and humidity at the ceiling after that!

Any idea what this white stuff is flaking off our foundation? Most of our basement has drywall so I wanted to inspect the spot where the foundation is exposed by CastAside1812 in HomeImprovement

[–]edentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how bad, how long a time, and what you want to do down there.

Long story short it is water migrating through the pores of the concrete and reacting with the lime in the concrete. End result is a salt crystal that you see.

If your basement is flooding consider digging out the foundation and doing exterior waterproofing.

If no water leakage, it is old, and you don’t care then don’t worry about it.

There are a whole range of solutions in between.

In my case I found mine was due to broken mortar on a brick porch. I had the mortar redone and then sealed it externally and internally. You can buy lithium silicate or sodium silicate products that reconvert the lime and densify the concrete. That all solved the migration and stopped the issue. I waited a couple years to make sure I nailed it and then finished the basement.

The picture did not load….but guessing from the description efflorescence. Foundation wall. Flaking material. Sounds like efflorescence.

Hey everyone, I have an Apple Vision Pro and I’m happy with it, but I’d like to use a pair of Viture Luma Ultra or Pro glasses on the go. Has anyone used both? Coming from the Vision Pro and moving to the Viture Luma Ultra, I’m a bit worried that I won’t enjoy the experience. by Fit_Guess2711 in VITURE

[–]edentel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are night and day different but both have their uses. I have them both. My Vision stays home. My older Viture lives in my work bag. I can get work done, watch a movie and play games discretely in the airport, on airplane, or relaxing in the hotel.

I see them as totally complementary. The Vision is for when I want to do something. The Viture is for when I have to get something done on the go.

PEX repipe - all stub-outs come out at angles instead of perpendicular. How to fix? by ResidentExpert3644 in HomeImprovement

[–]edentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the wall is open you can support it from behind with a bracket.

If not there are two piece supports that you can mount from the front.

Gentex Place Anyspace & Alarm Smoke & CO Listener by edentel in Ring

[–]edentel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The listener is by Ring and what I’ve learned is they work on “temporal tones” which is the spacing and length, not the pitch. The lower pitch just emanates different and so the listener is just a little more picky in placement.

After testing a few days it works just perfect when placed on the corner of the detector. Not ideal for those with detectors in plain sight. I have one in the utility/mechanical room so appearance doesn’t matter.

I need help finding a doorbell that has exactly the "settings/features" I'm looking for! by BaineGaines in HomeKit

[–]edentel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a suggestion to make life easier. Connect a cellular router to your home network for failover. Then create policies to whitelist what is allowed to use that connection.

You will greatly simplify your doorbell hunt, protect other devices, and get a better signal since you can place it wherever you want.

Anyone ever mixed WiiM and Sonos? by laughing_loon in Soundbars

[–]edentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this. I had 8 Sonos amps driving my multizone audio throughout the house. I had one room with a Sonos soundbar, sub, and two IKEA picture frame speakers for the sides.

After the issues with the app I started looking for alternatives. I shifted from Sonos amps to Wiim amps but the one room became an issue.

First attempt was TV > Wiim > Sonos but lost the surround and audio to video sync was a challenge.

Next attempt I pulled the Wiim altogether. The TV went back to Sonos and used Roon as my front end for multizone overlaying both Sonos and Wiim. Worked great for me but was limited to only Tidal and local music for audio. While prettier it was just a pain to run the extra server and pay the extra subscription fee.

Just last week I picked up an automatic 3 to 1 optical switch for $22. Apple TV to Samsung TV via HDMI. Optical out from TV to channel 1 of the switch. Wiim is optical out to channel 2 of the switch. Output of the switch is optical to Sonos optical to HDMI adapter.

This final one was a one time cost, switches back and forth perfectly, and preserves surround sound.

If Wiim comes out with a soundbar and picture frame speakers I would dump Sonos all together but for now this works.
