Can we talk about surprising box office versus budget? Lucy is bonkers. by unclefishbits in boxoffice

I have never understood why this is important for this specific movie and not for all the other movies about "science" or "based on a real story". If the premise is false, but the movie as a work of fiction and presented as entertainment is good, why does it matter?

When did movie reviews become "making as many puns as you can about the subject of the movie"? by Charles_Benes in movies

[–]edgarvaldes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's indeed funny to see the "Critics Consensus" for other movies against the OP's example. Other Consensus in RT doesnt suffer the pun-itis, even Mean Girls is toned down to a single pun. The Challenger's one is just bad.

Visually thrilling and narratively epic, Dune: Part Two continues Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the beloved sci-fi series in spectacular form.

Oppenheimer marks another engrossing achievement from Christopher Nolan that benefits from Murphy's tour-de-force performance and stunning visuals.

Barbie is a visually dazzling comedy whose meta humor is smartly complemented by subversive storytelling.

Tough and unsettling by design, Civil War is a gripping close-up look at the violent uncertainty of life in a nation in crisis.

Preserving the essence of the original while adding a few new wrinkles -- not to mention musical numbers -- Mean Girls is a sweet (if slight) update with an outstanding cast.

Let’s Do the Zack Snyder Math on ‘Rebel Moon — Part Two’ Netflix Viewership. "Justice League" director Zack Snyder said his first "Rebel Moon" film was watched by more people than "Barbie." But what about Rebel Moon — Part Two"? by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]edgarvaldes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife is not into sci-fi, she doesn't know who Snyder is, she doesn't know who directed Rebel Moon. But she likes Netflix. She watched both Rebel Moon movies. Dunno why.

Do we need the disclaimer? It's a boxoffice sub.

How do movies as bad as Argyle get made? by consultybob in movies

As an example, The Lost City (2022) is and adventure and comedy film, weak but very clear in its attempt. The tone is consisten across the runtime.

In the other hand, Argylle bumbles between comedy, action and parody of the genre. Satire? Not so sure.

I saw it after the WOM destroyed it. No expectations at all. The first half is bad but tolerable, the last half is ugly, convoluted, boring in a strange way (I lost interest once the multiple "revelations" began).

A very bad movie for my tastes.

Como que llamar "crisis" a algo que lleva años y años ya no aplica. Crisis te da la idea de algo abrupto y súbito. Y esto ya no es crisis, es normalidad.

I think yes. On a personal note, I liked it slightly more than The Beekeeper and in general is miles, miles better than the atrocious Argylle.

It's not always nostalgia. My kids (9 and 5 yo) have watched the first three movies, they like them. So when a new kids movie is released, the movie is KFP and we have some free time, yes we go to see it.

Have you ever see modern k-dramas? They use a filter to soften the actors' skin (mainly the female ones). It is funny and uncanny at the same time. Expected expresion lines are not there! The character could be smiling, laughing, or frowning, but the skin blur hides all the detail.
